Troy Ball of Troy & Sons, a North Carolina-based distillery specializing in finely made whiskeys and heirloom moonshine, commissioned John Aquino to create the cocktail. He is the mixologist at Wild Olive on Johns Island S.C. near Kiawah Island, the location of this year’s HGTV Dream Home.

Plan to mix a New South of your own tomorrow night and join us for this interactive event!

The New South: Signature Cocktail for HGTV Dream Home 2013

Stir 2 oz Troy and Son’s Oak Reserve Whiskey with 1 1/2 tsp Jo Snow *Cherry & Thyme Syrup. Serve on the rocks, top with a couple splashes of soda water and garnish with an orange wedge and brandied cherries.

*To make your own Cherry & Thyme Syrup: Combine 12 oz. Black Cherry Extract (find it at your local grocery or health food store) and a handful of thyme in 6 oz. of water. Heat to steep for about an hour, then strain and chill.

John recommends infusing the bottle of Troy and Son’s Reserve with one medium orange peel (no pith); after 2 days, remove peel and keep in cool area

wow, i am impressed. what i noticed first was the roof. "on fire", a few of my friends changed to that type of roofing and they love it. the zen nooks impressed my grandsons, husband and I are loving the layout of the house. HGTV you are "ON FIRE" with this one. thanks, cynthia

  2. Josh says:

how much cash are they giving away with this dream home? Need to know if I should be dreaming of actually living there, or winning it and selling it?

  3. Derby says:

Ugh. Industrial, cold. Since when are exposed bolts and plain wood posts attractive? No symmetry; exterior just looks crude. Like the nooks but not the color or material choices. Like the setting.

    • Trudy says:

I agree and the BEST is the area and setting! Thank goodness the decorator couldn't paint that.

    • crystal says:

I love this home and its only a few miles from my children and grandchildren that i never get to see! This would be heaven!

  4. Jenny says:

So disappointed, usually, I can't wait to try and win the house. This year I think I will pass. It just seems like an inconvenient floor plan and the sleeping areas are so small. I would be a little embarrassed to have my parents, brothers and sisters come to visit and have them have to leave their bedrooms to use the bathroom in the morning? The colors and feel to me a little like last chance paint that was rejected by someone else. It feels like there is too much furniture in too little a space. The outside of the house is gorgeous, but the tiny swimming pool isn't something that the kids would have fun in and, I would be terrified that they would fall out. Sorry everyone, It's just not for me. It seems that dream homes from years gone by have truly been dream homes, this one doesn't feel that way. Good luck this year to everyone, perhaps this is your dream home and if that is the case, I hope you win.

    Jenny from Bradenton, Florida

    • Trudy says:

Gosh, I felt the same and disappointed. My home furniture is nicer! The pantry was plain UGLY…….where did this interior decorator study? They took a gorgeous location and home then transformed it into something cramped and gaudy.

    • theresasanders says:

Embarrassed? Really? I'm thankful to have room for my family to visit and they certainly don't mind leaving the bed room to use the bathroom. What are you, royalty?

    • Mark says:

This designer has really reached into the IKEA bland bin for her ideas on this house. I could not agree more you and a previous post from Derby. Beautiful views and interesting engineering and structural requirements but a rather dismal end result stemming from the designer's "tastes".

    • mic says:

most people leave their bedrooms to use the bathroom

    • Heather says:

Quite frankly, you did not check out the home that closely. They do NOT have to leave the bedroom to enter the attached bathrooms. They are built like individual suites. Check out the floor plan on this site or the tours. Also, if you are "embarassed" by something as simple as that, you don't need this home at all and I am glad that you will leave the extra chance to win for those of us that actually appreciate things in life instead of always looking for the negative. PS- LOVE the colors in this house. It is bright, airy and as mentioned, reflective of the colors in the sea and sea glass. If you look at design magazines, you will see those colors everywhere right now. Good luck to you. Hopefully, next year's home will be sanitary, bland colors for you and live up to your standards.

    • Simone says:

Everything looks great! If I win this house it will be a dream come true. Just winning something is already a gift. Be thankful!

I love every nook and cranny of this wonderful home. I would certainly love to call it my own. I'm gonna win this house. I'm just putting it out there. I'm winning. I have three wonderful children 27, 22, 20 with the worlds best grandson…7. And we would certainly love to live here and call this place home. Thank you HGTV you all have done a wonderful job. And I promise that we will treat this home with love and we love you all for building it just for us. Love you all. Still Blessed.

  17. Cynthia says:

Wow some pretty harsh comments. I guess people are becoming experts on home decor and architectural design. I think there are many sweet designs in this home and would be ecstatic to own such a home.

    • Heather says:

Completely agree! I cannot believe how critical people are. Everyone that would win a home like this would add their own touches, but come on! If they are that snooty, they don't need to win a home! They should stay right where they are!

    • stpalst says:

Me too, anytime you can win a home, we should be thankful!!! I can tell alot of thought was put into this home!

  18. Jeanette says:

Love every room, except Great Room to much of an asian vibe or just not my style but everything else I loved!

  21. Mark says:

Eclectic! Inviting! Peaceful! (I get the Zen part!) Refreshingly different, too. Just one question: how long are the bunk beds in the loft niche?

  22. Lisa says:

This home is absolutely beautiful! I've already dreamed up what it would be like to live there! I've got butterflies in my stomach, and it's in SC too! The master bedroom is soooo dreamy with the oak right outside with all that fantasy invoking spanish moss. :) I hope we win! Cross your fingers!

  23. Sherrie Moore says:

I have tried to win the Dream Home since 2001 when I first saw it advertised at Bowling Green, Ky. Since , then I have followed. Now, I need it more than any other time in my life. My son 's wife is leaving him. My daughter may move, and I need some place to go to call my own. I am going to be 69 this week, and that is too old to have to live with your children. Please choose me for a winner. I was divorced in 1998 and been unsettled since that year. Make my dream come true. I am ready to leave Kentucky to make a new start in a new home and state. God bless HGTV for this opportunity. I pray that I win. Then, I will have some place to invite my grandchildren to have fun without paying a high price I cannot afford. I am a retired teacher, and your pension does not go very far to have any type of luxuries. So , choose me , as I have tried so many years. Thank you. I love it.

  24. natasha says:

I love this house; can't believe when someone says its not impressive, so zen, relaxing. .. lighting off the pool, I can only imagine, with the palms and water movement on the outer walls. You aren't meant to have this house if you don't appreciate what it is.

  25. Elizabeth Marshall says:

You can't please everyone but this home pleases me. It does have some unique areas, I think the bunk area on the upper level was a great use of space. I can't imagine a kid who wouldn't think it was cool to have that space to sleep in. I have such good memories of spending vacation with my family at the beach to have the opportunity to win something like this to call my own is spectacular. I wish I could have a job working on these kind of projects I am sure it is hard work but wow what a fun thing to be involved with.

  26. Jeri says:

I Love this House . A nice place to relax and a home to spend time with family. My grandson was born with many health issues and I believe that this eco-friendly house would help improve his health problems.

  33. Easy Home Concepts says:

I read some rude comments here, I say to each his own. To me, the house looks simple on the exterior but inside it looks cozy and just perfect. I love how the furnishings are decorated in an eclectic manner.

  45. Candice says:

I really LOVE the house I'm from the south and can really relate to the charm of the house. Our kids have graduated from college and we have put alot of things on hold and have lived in same house for 26 years, winning this would be a blessing.

  46. Doreen says:

This is the best dream home yet! Environmentally friendly, which is so important in this delicate and beautiful ecosystem, and blended so beautifully into the environment! There are so many awesome features in this home, and the colors and decor are so well thought out, it would be a joy to live it it. I could be happy to spend the rest of my days lazing and gazing at the marsh life from the back patio…But, I am a realist…odds are too high that I will win…but it is fun to dream a little!

  47. Heather says:

Very well done. Love this house from top to bottom. Being that my families' home burned down on Christmas night, I am really hoping to win this one (long shot I know…but one can dream) One question, the heating/cooling was not mentioned anywhere. Anyone know how this gorgeous home is heated or cooled? I can only imagine with the platinum rating, it is something very cool!

  48. Neblady says:

I can just imagine the sounds of croaking bullfrogs at night and the peace it would bring. Love the finish on the garage floor and all that decking and serenity. Sign me up!

  49. Denise says:

This home actually brought tears to my eyes! Absolutely beautiful and breath taking. I pictured my youngest daughter having an intimate wedding reception on the balcony.

  50. Ginny says:

OMG – gorgeous! What a perfect location and the home not only fits in but enhances the area. I love the colors! In love with the dining room and coffee bar. Who am I kidding – I want the house!
