Happy 2013, MacGyvers! Have you made a new year’s resolution yet? Getting fit is admirable, but a little cliche, no? How about getting your home in shape? According to my Internet sleuthing, all it takes is some ordinary clothespins and a little imagination. Take a look at these five clothespin crafts to get organized and spiff up your humble abode this year.

clothespin shelf

This clothespin storage shelf would work wonders in a kitchen (see the apron and potholder here), but I think I’d put it in an entryway to keep track of all those loose scarves and mittens that pile up during the winter. Head to Country Living to get the DIY instructions.

clothespin magnets

Fancy up your fridge with some clothespin magnets like The Paper Girl did here. (She used Mod Podge and paper scraps for the designs, but you can also dress them up with washi tape if you have some handy.)

I love this clothespin backdrop from Chickabug blog! Here it creates a festive party atmosphere and displays sweet cards, but I could see doing this to a bulletin board and leaving it up year-round. It certainly would make To Do lists, business cards and receipts seem more exciting.

clothespin frame

I got so many sweet holiday cards and photos this year that I’m thinking of bringing some into the office to decorate my desk. These clothespin “frames” from Madigan Made are a total dollar store project (the best kind!) and a casual way to show off your favorite snapshots.

clothespin mirror

Okay, this project is less about getting organized and more about making pretty things, but you can’t fault me for that, can you? I spotted this clothespin twist on the sunburst mirror on Design*Sponge and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind since. Technically, I suppose you could clip little notes to it, but when something is this lovely, it shouldn’t have to multitask.

Which clothespin project are you pining for? And do you have any household items you’d like to see turned into crafts in this column? Leave your suggestions in the comments below!

I like the idea of the clothespins on a bulletin board year round. I have all that and just may do it tomorrow. Great idea.

I like the sunburst and garland. I just bought a bag of clothespins at a flea market last week and I have 7 paint samples and tons of Annie Sloan paint and a shelf of paint from other projects.
