My drawing skills are pretty average, but you’ll never find me without a Sharpie marker or two. (My mother will attest to the fact that my love of the markers goes back to my childhood, as I once ruined her living room end table with a black Sharpie and my imagination. Oops.) Fortunately, you don’t have to be an artist to do supercool projects with permanent markers. Take a look at these jaw-dropping decor ideas and let the ink fly!
I am obsessed with wallpaper, but that stuff isn’t cheap. On the other hand, this Sharpie “wallpaper” by Mandi of Vintage Revivals only cost $8 to make! Plus, when I met Mandi at Alt, she told me people sometimes call her “the MacGyver of DIYers,” so clearly she knows how to be crafty with ordinary materials. Get her full tutorial here.
Sharpie marker on a lampshade could be totally cheesy, but this French chic shade from Young Wifey is très tasteful, no? And clever to boot. Just tape the design of your choice to the inside of the shade, turn the light on and trace.
If you prefer to be a little more loose with your design, this modified IKEA chair slipcover by Caitlin Wilson (via Little Green Notebook/Design*Sponge) might be right up your alley. Animal prints are extra wild when you draw them yourself!
Serve up some style by using a Sharpie on dishes, like these beauties from Stephanie Lynn of Under the Table and Dreaming. Sketch whatever you please, then bake to set the design. I’m mad for anything metallic, so you know I am all about these ramekins.
Ombre: It’s hot for hair and also bedding! Elizabeth from The Mustard Ceiling knows what I’m talking about. Copy the look by spraying Sharpie-saturated sheets with rubbing alcohol. Get the rest of her tutorial here.
