We on the color team debated vigorously about the worthiness of a traditional Valentine’s Day color for February’s Color of the Month. Some of us wanted to throw all of our eggs in Cupid’s basket, but others were feeling an egg of a different type…

…robin’s egg blue.

Jessica’s color pick for this month won us over with its classic-cool tone and its ability to pair well with so many of our favorite hues. Her Pinterest board (which I keep finding myself staring at because it’s just so darn pretty) shows how this gorgeous shade can pass easily from vintage, to traditional, to modern with a deftness that not many colors can manage.

Robin’s egg blue takes on different personalities depending on lighting, time of day, and the colors it’s near. This chameleon can complement corals, deep reds, yellows, metallics or simply a crisp white.

I’ll admit bias since I just painted my living room this color last fall, but what about you? Do you love it? Hate it? Tell us what you think!

i do like it but like someone said it's not new. however, having said all that i wish i had gone with a light color. i too am a March baby and it is more like a springy color. it doesn't make me think February.

  13. Amy Frost says:

I love the robin's egg blue in the right room with the right accent colors.

  14. Nancy says:

    love love love!

  15. Gae says:

I also associate this color with the month of March, maybe because it was my grandmother's favorite color and she was born in March. My grandmother painted walls this color, even the outside of her house was painted this color at one time, and she even wore clothing this color which is flattering to all skin tones too! It is a surprisingly versatile color.

  16. Dorie Morgan says:

Love this color so much! I actually redid my entire house (2 years ago this April). My office walls are this color. I also have it as an accent color in my front room via robins eggs in a nest and throw pillows.

  26. [...] When Haeley from Design Improvised highlighted a Valentine wreath she made using pompoms that had adorned her Christmas tree — I knew our readers would love this craft, too. Just painted my family room & adjacent kitchen this color a few months ago & paired it with Portobello (deep brown) in the rest of downstairs. It may not be new, but it's classic. LOVE it!

That's two out of three colors I used 7 years ago and just moved and still love colors. Using them in new house again….and I have never used colors twice!
Something soothing about Robins Egg Blue.

    I love it!

  29. cheryl says:

Recently purchased a sweet elderly home that has ceramic tile in the bathroom in this color. I like, for financial and 'green', reasons to use what I can in rooms that I redo…. the only color I can 'see' with this color of blue however is white and I have painted woodwork and walls freshly stripped of wallpaper to redo and the fixtures in the bathroom (thank goodness) are already all white… what colors should I put on walls and woodwork with this robins egge color in the tile that goes 3/4 up the walls all around? anyone?

    • jessicaykr says:

      Hi Cheryl!

Congrats on your new home! If you want to keep the simple color scheme (nothing too crazy or extravagant), you could experiment with white, robin's egg blue and a soft gray. The color also tends to work well with rich browns and then lighter tans and creams. It will all depend on your personal style. There are also certain shades of greens that work – here's an example of the color scheme from this year's Dream Home: http://www.hgtv.com/dream-home/hgtv-dream-home-20

I hope this helps, good luck with your remodel!

    • Elaine says:

Shades of green, latte, cream and seafoam. I have this color in my vintage bathroom and use all those color towels with it, not all at once. I like to change it up. The shower curtains are white. The floor tiles are blue and I put a pale seafoam rug in front of the sink.

This is my all time favorite color……it makes me feel all cozy inside:)

  34. Chauncine says:

I grew up with this color on my bedroom walls. Very retro and cool.

  35. Elaine says:

I painted my house this color, love it. The front door is coral.

  36. Pasha says:

Absolutely, Joan, it may not be new, but it's classic. I think this is one of the most calming colors in existence. It does make me think of Spring, but why not in February? Anything to get through a cold Pennsylvania winter… I love it and feel it is a great choice!

  37. Debby says:

Love the color; but kitchen-no, bathroom-yes. Could be a great accent color.

  38. Renee says:

Love this color. Redid the dining room with wallpaper having this color, wainscoting in deep teal, drapes in this color, and the dramatic change was painting the ceiling a butter color and the living room with complimentary walls . Loove this robin's egg blue

  39. gail says:

A lovely color. Been in my home over 40 years and the first color I chose for it was this Robins Egg color, with white trim and black shutters. Now am thinking of doing our bedroom in it. I just love it. Great choice this year.

  40. Faireden says:

Love this color – my entire studio except for the bathroom is this color!

  41. silva st germain says:

love the kitchen island and feb blue

  42. MaryAnne Bush says:

Love it! Love it! Love it!

  43. Katherine says:

Painter is coming in 4 days. Wanted to paint my kitchen and master bedroom this color. Need to buy paint this weekend. I have 5 samples on the wall and just can't get it right. What brand/colors do you recommend?

    • jessicaykr says:

Hi Katherine. Try Bird's Egg by Benjamin Moore or Meander Blue by Sherwin-Williams. There are definitely a ton of others and each one is just a little bit different than the other, so take a walk down the paint aisle and grab a few swatches so you can compare/contrast and find the one that is just right for you!

  44. Kay says:

Love it! Any shades of turquoise or aqua are my favorites, and it really does blend well with other colors. I have this color all over my living room, including a nest with aqua eggs!

  45. Jen says:

That kitchen… swoon! I already have a vintage door in my kitchen that would fit right in, see it at http://lively-grace.blogspot.com/2012/03/door-no-… or in the background at http://pocatellomag.com/2013/02/04/just-paint-it !

  46. smc says:

I'm not usually a fan of any light blue color, but this is calming, maybe not new but yummy nevertheless.

  47. Guinelle Koonce says:

I recently purchased a condo and got the model. Initially, I was horrified because whoever decorated the model obviously loved this blue. It's in my sunroom, spreading into the dining room and one wall in the family room (they even put one wall in my bedroom this color) and the master bathroom! But the longer I live here, the more I like the color (besides, I'm not planning to paint yet. Sooo, gonna keep it in he dining room area, the bathroom, and sunroom (those rooms are co-joined and if I changed it, it would look like a rainbow house.

  48. peggy says:

Love the Robin's egg Blue color. It is also beautiful paired with a buttery yellow color. It truly withstands the hands of time; the first time I used this color was 1975!

  49. AndreaMc says:

Love the color! Painted a guest bedroom this color about a year and a half ago. Surprisingly, can accessorize in so many ways with this color.
