Today I’m welcoming you inside my house to show you a space that does, indeed, delight me daily — it’s my den. Everyone deserves a home that is filled with items that inspire them and that reflects their personality (and just makes them feel really good). My little Tennessee abode does just that, but no room does it better than the den.

Everything in this room means something to me. In front of the sofa (not pictured) is a china cabinet that holds my grandmother’s china and crystal.
The room is really a bedroom, but since I’m a bachelor and don’t have a ton of house-guests, keeping it a guest room seemed like a waste (the sofa is a pullout — so I am somewhat of a welcoming host). I just love the coziness of the space and the atmosphere at night when all of the lamps are on. The back wall is filled with plates and pictures that I have collected from antique stores along with treasured family photos.
The curio cabinet is the focal point of the room and packed with “tacky” stuff. I tell people when they look inside it, “This is the real Grant!” And, it truly is. It’s full of souvenirs from my travels (yes, I proudly own it, I love cheap tchotchkes — and mine mean something to me!), favorite childhood toys and neat gifts I’ve received over the years. I like to think that having these items inside a curio classes it all up (and contains) what could otherwise be seen as a mess.

I, Grant Dudley, enjoy trinkets — don’t judge me. I think tchotchkes can be fun and tasteful in the correct setting.
Now tell me, what’s your favorite room inside your home — and what makes it so special? Also, if you have a photo (if you don’t, go take one!) — Tweet it to Design Happens at @hgtvdecorating and show me your space!

Your den is wonderful. Love the curio too.
Super cute! I have all my trinkets on my mantel at home. And on the bookcase…and okay. Everywhere.
Beautiful den Grant.
Love it!
I love the randomness on the back wall! I've tried doing something like that before but it never turns out looking that good. Very cozy looking den!
I have most all the same stuff including the exact curio cabinet and other furniture pieces but have always been afraid to display it all. It looks awesome in your den! I too have a den but have kept it minimal as to not junk it up and now realize its not cozy nor tells anything about me. Great to see a design says its ok to really show who you are in a private space like a den.
Awesome comes to mind. <3
Great coffee table and love the red wall. Had the same Tweety Pie record when I was a kid.
You've inspired me to do something more with my den. If it looked half as good as yours I would be pleased.
The curio cabinet is my favorite. Love the randomness of the things inside. Looks great.
Love it! Thanks for inviting us inside, Grant!
Do I see Zippy the monkey in that curio cabinet?;)
A very inviting and welcoming room.
A feast for the eyes. Just beautiful.
Love it!
This is the best room I've ever seen on an HGTV site. It actually looks like a real person, with a real personality lives here and loves it. I'm so tired of rooms that never show lamp cords or quirky things that are there just because they are loved and have a history. Kudos, and thanks for sharing!
I agree with LisaL. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Thank you so much, LisaL. I'm nothing if not quirky!
I'm crazy about the way you have your trinkets displayed. Now THAT is unique!
The eagle on the red wall is my absolute favorite. The whole wall looks so good.
Noticed the 2 pictures hung low by the window. I'm going to do that too. I love the way that looks. I've seen it done a few times but am really going to do it now.
Grant this "style" must run in the family – I am the same way…. my only problem – I find dusting all my stuff is for the birds….
I love the "familiar" feel of this room, as if I have been there before. It reminds me of my own home. The only thing I would have added is a softness on the window in a plaid, as in the pillows on the sofa. That is just me . . .great personalization of your space.
