Here at Design Happens, we’re a little impatient for spring. Maybe it’s all the gardening articles we’ve been growing for our newest website, HGTVGardens.com. Maybe we’re just ready for some sunshine. Either way, our color team couldn’t resist a vibrant hue that speaks to the freshness of the coming season. It’s…
…carrot! Color meeting newcomer Kelly Smith-Trimble pitched this yellow-orange hue that recalls one of the tastiest spring crops.
This versatile, fresh color is reminiscent of the nectarine hue in Pantone’s spring forecast, and it can add brightness everywhere from a bedroom throw pillow to a floral-and-citrus centerpiece on an Easter table. (Don’t forget the carrot cake!)
Even when this color isn’t filling up a plate, it can still stimulate the appetite, making it a great accent color for dining spaces.
Orange has a reputation for being overwhelming, but less-saturated variations like carrot can inspire relaxation. Can’t you imagine settling in here on the first day that’s warm enough to open the windows?

We’ve professed our affection for carrot, and we know the Easter bunny loves it — what about you? Will you use this color in your home this spring?

Yes, orange is beautifull and I can put that as my accent color in my bedroom for the warm season, sounds great.B)
I love this color. I have a lot of it in my home.
Love this color too!
I love this color too. I have it as an accent color in my kitchen and living room. It's so warm and cheerful!
I just happen to be wearing this color today – timely!
Jolene, you're so trendy! Perfect for a gray day (if your weather is anything like ours here in Tennessee.)
I love this color too.
Love it……My Kitchen is this carrot color with pure white trim color, cabinets are honey oak with brushed nickel hardware, appliances are stainless steel, light fixtures are also brushed nickel.
I would like to see your kitchen Linda. I am thinking of adding orange somewhere on my walls.
I like the color orange very much. But not this orange. Way too intense. There is a very old color of orange found in dining rooms of pre-civil war southern plantations called Rett orange, which is really a lovely light autumn leaf orange. Also I have found a new orange color that will knock your socks off and make you to go wow. It goes perfect with cosmos blue and it is called sherbet (orange) but sadly it is not made by Sherwin-Williams. But I am sure they could match it up for you if you wish? This sherbet has a slight metallic sheen to it and let for our dark hallways to pleasantly and warmly glow and is easy on the eyes.
Where do I get those chairs … mine have arms (6) and would love to have some without arms like those in the picture. I have the matching base and glass table top.
If you mean the dining chairs, I think these are the same ones:

I ride a Tequila Sunrise Orange Harley that turns heads.
I love that colors like this look different in every light. My whole house has something similar to this and it makes my day.
I love your orange. Thank you for the addiotional color idea.
I love orange as an accent color in a room. It's so much fun and vibrant!
I am so intrigued by the orange paint color shades suggested by a previous blog enthusiast, particularly the metallic…..which, to me, suggests a golden shimmer or glow reflecting light off the orange.
Orange makes me think of the timeless sophistication of a paisley-covered chaise, the familiar feel of a whalebone corduroy loveseat, the vintage charm of crushed velvet in a tufted armchair, and the golden glow of orange dupioni silk curtains. For me, orange not only evokes energy and earthiness, but also blankets a space with an autumnal comfort and warmth perfect for gathering around the harvest table with family and friends.
Two HGTV episodes stand-out for me when designing using the color orange. Both involved kitchens. The first featured a commercial kitchen on Deserving Design, where, if memory serves me right, Vern Yip artfully balanced an orange wall color with stainless steel appliances and white crown molding. The second featured a hip residential kitchen on Kitchen Cousins, where pops of select orange acrylic cabinets (which could easily be changed out with other colors, if desired) amidst a sea of white acrylic cabinets brilliantly reflected light into the room, and were paired perfectly alongside a black-and-white wall mural of Grand Central Station. ……Similarly, I can easily imagine orange paired with black-and-white toile chairs or curtains. Thanks HGTV for the continued inspiration!
I remember that Kitchen Cousins episode! I had never considered orange cabinetry until then, but I loved the big reveal.
Mango Mania (I think by Better Homes and Gardens paint) is in my dining room. It looks great!
I love that color name! It definitely sets the scene for fun dinner parties.
How did I miss this? Loving the carrot!
Orange is my fave–I have a subtly orange sofa w/ aqua and red as accents.
Orange symbolizes power and spirituality. This color encourages happiness, optimism, healthy relationships, and much more. Subtle shades of orange are one of the best colors for homes and can be used anywhere.
