Update: Congratulations to this month’s random winner, Van. Check back on May 3 for another great giveaway.

Now that spring has finally arrived, the time is right to shake up your decor. Along with new paint colors and spring cleaning to-dos, why not update your home by starting an original art collection? It’s easier than you think — and this month’s giveaway with affordable original art retailer The Tappan Collective can help.

The Tappan Collective founders Jordan Klein and Chelsea Neman started their company to make it easy for art lovers (and art newbies!) to easily find and buy original artwork from emerging artists. One lucky Design Happens reader will win their choice from the three original pieces featured in this post. Read on to enter for a chance to win.

Chefchaouen 2 by Shay Spaniola

Option one is a framed print of this Moroccan city scene (above) captured by photographer Shay Spaniola. Animal lovers might be more drawn to a framed copy of  Will Robinson-Scott’s “Mastiff,” which shows off the bond between a pair of dogs and  their owner.

For those who’d rather fill their walls with whimsy, the third choice is a framed print of Evan Robart’s bright “Popsicles.” Doesn’t it make you think of a hot summer day?

So, what’s the best way to choose? Tappan’s founders say it all boils down to one thing: Choose pieces that give you an emotional response. “I think what we say most is to keep it simple. Don’t be intimidated by the history or what it means; just go with your gut and see what you respond to. Once you start building a collection, you’ll be amazed by the patterns that will emerge,” Chelsea says.

To enter for a chance to win one of these art pieces, leave a comment below. This month’s question: What’s your favorite style of art, or your favorite individual art piece?

Follow The Tappan Collective on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about exciting new artists and building your own collection.

You may only comment once to be considered, and you don’t have to purchase anything to win; a purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Odds depend on total number of entries. Void where prohibited by law. Only open to legal residents of 50 U.S., D.C. or Puerto Rico, and you must be at least 18 years of age to win. All entries (comments) must be entered between 9:00 a.m. ET on April 5, 2013 and 12:00 p.m. ET on April 8, 2013. Subject to full official rules. I can't commit to one particular style of art. My taste in art is very eclectic.. I'm usually attracted to pieces that are very colorful and make me feel 'happy'!

Currently I'm into modern art with a traditional twist – controlled use of bold colors, shapes that don't have sharp edges, and forms that aren't literal.

I don't know that I have one favorite style, but my current favorite piece is an etching of a death's head moth by a student/grad from my alma mater.
