If you saw Kayla’s bathroom trends post then you know that we recently spent a few days in the Big Easy for the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show checking out the hottest new products before they hit shelves. Trendspotting at a trade show is always fun but unlike other shows we attend where design is the only focus, kitchens and baths are spaces where form and function are equally important so technology is key. If you’re in the market for a new kitchen, or just thinking about a few upgrades, here are the freshest trends/technologies to make your kitchen really cook!

Wondering what color to paint your cabinets? I polled a few manufacturers and while white cabinets continue to be tops, gray is the shade they’re betting on to break white’s top spot. This kitchen by Wellborn pairs soft gray cabinets with richly stained wood — combining cabinet colors is another kitchen trend that’s holding strong:

Not only is the color of kitchen cabinets changing, but hardware manufacturers like Blum are changing the way cabinet doors and drawers function. These hydraulic, easy-close doors fold up and out of the way with the touch of a button: Blum Hydraulic Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen storage is always an issue, especially for apartment dwellers or any homeowner whose kitchen is short on space. To remedy this, manufacturers like Hafele are doubling up storage in new, custom kitchens with clever multi-tiered drawers:Hafele Deep Kitchen Drawer With Organized Storage

Kitchen automation doesn’t stop at the cabinets. Hands-free, sensor-activated faucets, like this one by Moen, are another glimpse into the kitchen of the future:  Moen Sensor Kitchen Faucet

Like kitchen cabinets, sinks are trending away from basic white.  This eye-catching green apron-front sink by Kohler was designed by tastemaker Jonathan Adler:

Countertops continue to define a kitchen’s style — but they don’t have to be a budget-buster. This granite look-alike from Wilsonart is actually laminate but unlike previous laminate countertops features a more realistic, larger stone pattern and rounded edge for a high-end granite look at a fraction of the price: Wilsonart Granite-Look-a-Like Laminate Countertops

And, if you’re in the market for a fashion-forward countertop, granite, quartz and laminate are no longer your only choices. Wood countertops are coming on strong. This kitchen by EnGrain combines the warmth of wood with cool Calacatta marble for the best of both worlds:  EnGrain Wood Kitchen Countertop

One last hot kitchen trend — the Kitchen Cousins, of course!  Anthony and John swung by our booth and we all leapt at the chance for a pic. Not only are they incredibly talented kitchen designers, they’re also super nice guys who just happen to be smokin’ hot!Kitchen Cousins Visiting the HGTV Booth
