While our color of the month meetings can get a little contentious, occasionally the whole Design Happens team arrives with one hue on the brain. Maybe we were dreaming of upcoming beach vacations. Maybe we were ready for nautically-inspired fashion. Whatever the case, our June color meeting was all about ocean-inspired blues.

In the final vote, we had to choose between my classic Monaco Blue and this Caribbean-inspired Paradise Blue from online trend tracker and HGTV.com colleague Jill. Read on to find out which water-inspired color won out for June.

In the end we were swayed by Jill’s beautiful Paradise Blue. This hue brings to mind the best parts of summer, like sticking your toes in the sand, watching (or riding) wave after blue-green wave and walking across delightfully-weathered boardwalks. (This cocktail featuring blue curacao didn’t hurt Jill’s cause one bit.)

Even if your summer is shaping up to be a land-locked one, this watery hue can create beach-inspired style in any home. More saturated than turquoise and more blue than wintry mint, Paradise Blue plays well with whites, other blues and greens and color-wheel opposites like yellow and orange. Since it’s equal parts cool and bright, a splash of paradise blue (like these weathered dining chairs) is eye-catching and soothing all at once.

It’s stunning in small doses, like these bedroom accessories chosen by designer Anna Williams-White…

…and large ones, like this coastal-cool kids’ bedroom created for the 2013 Dream Home by designer Linda Woodrum.

What do you think of our choice? Will you use Paradise Blue in your home this June?
