Craving the relaxation of a lush resort, complete with salt in your hair and sand in your toes? Summer has a way of making my thoughts vacation-consumed. Since an exotic resort isn’t exactly in my near future, I’m feeding the craving with photos of these gorgeous backyard getaways. Who needs a resort when you can have your own backyard escape (or pine after someone else’s)?

Water Park at Home

Modern Pool Area

Resort-Style Swimming Pool

Asian-Style Pool Area

OR – If you’re craving the adventure of an exotic vacation sans an ocean, try one of these lake-friendly water sports.

Wake Surfing
Surfing – on the lake. Some call it “skurfing” and some call it “wake surfing.” If you’ve never heard of it, here’s a quick definition: surfing on the wake of a power boat without a rope. It seems a bit eccentric, right? I thought so too until I gave it a try. Now, I love spending my Saturdays on a surfboard.

Paddle Boarding

Although I’ve yet to give paddle boarding a try, I’ve seen quite a few boards on the lake lately. Paddle boarding is perfect for low-current water environments like rivers and lakes. Supposedly, it’s even great exercise!

How will you quench your exotic vacay cravings?
