Before you call me crazy, hear me out. Sure, grilling is usually reserved for savory meats or vegetables, but have you given fruit a chance? Since fruit is basically made up of water and sugar, grilling it brings out its flavors and gives it a caramelized taste. If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, add some spices and pair the fruit with a dipping sauce like ricotta cheese (trust me!). It serves as the perfect side dish to your Fourth of July party or summer barbecue!

 Follow these grilling tips for best results:

  • Stick to harder fruits like apples, pineapple and pears. Fruits like peaches and plums will get too soft if overcooked.
  • Soak the fruit in cold water and 1 teaspoon lemon juice before grilling to make them more juicy.
  • Lightly spray the fruit with cooking oil to prevent them from sticking to the grill.
  • Place the fruit on skewers to easily turn them while on the grill.
