On a hot summer day, nothing is more appealing than a fresh, juicy piece of watermelon. And when I say juicy, I mean juicy — like juice-streaming-down-your-face juicy. Why not embrace the delicious messiness and serve a watermelon at your next summer get-together? I’ve rounded up some creative ways to serve this summer staple. Really, these ideas probably deserve more than ‘creative.’ I’d say they’re genius — I’m thinking these watermelons have been handled by true MacGyvers. Don’t you agree?

July 4th Watermelon Stars
If you’re throwing a July 4th get-together, you’ve still got time to pick up a watermelon. These adorable stars are festive and easy to make. Head on over to Domestic Fits to see how Jackie made them.

Watermelon Turtle
If you’re mentally ixnaying this little guy because you’re worried your carving skills aren’t up to par, I urge you to reconsider. Why? Because the instructions call for the guidance of a dry erase marker for those of us who aren’t as artistically inclined.

Watermelon Shark
This shark melon would be perfect for a beachy birthday party. And, as Rachel from Sun Scholars explains, this creation will instantly make you the most popular mom on the block (score!).

Watermelon Hedgehog
Fun fact: I’ve actually made one of these spunky little hedgehogs before. Let me tell you — if you’re looking to amuse yourself in the kitchen, this hedgehog melon is for you. Check out the full tutorial on Babble.

Watermelon Baby Carriage
I still can’t get over this watermelon baby carriage. I hope my sister isn’t reading, because this precious baby is definitely making an appearance at her upcoming gender reveal party. Head on over to Betsy Ciao for all the DIY details.
