BRIANA: Move over, orange – there’s a new color in town. White pumpkins were once novel, but now they threaten to usurp the Halloween pumpkin throne. So, what do you think? Do white pumpkins look smashing or would you like to smash them?

MARIANNE: I love all of the non-traditional pumpkins right now, white included. My mom just made this motley gourd tower and I’m digging it.

HANNAH SLAUGHTER: Kelly Smith Trimble is single-handedly responsible for me embracing the white pumpkins. They  just seem so elegant!

KELLY SMITH TRIMBLE: I love white pumpkins! They’re just a nice, fresh twist on the Halloween norm. And they meld into most homes’ existing looks better than orange ever can. I just recently did a post for Made + Remade using tiny white pumpkins planted with succulents:

Also did a short video for this project that was well-received on DIY’s Instagram. And Ellen [Foord] did a cute no-carve project using a faux (!) white pumpkin.

FARIMA: I’m a huge fan of white pumpkins. I decorated one during our pumpkin extravaganza and it was the inspiration for my [recent Color of the Month] color pitch, ivory.

LILI: Marianne, that tower is disgusting. I feel like if I get too close I’d catch a fungus. White pumpkins are okay, but only if you do something AMAZING with them:

(This was a winning pumpkin Briana and I made in the distant past.)

ALYSSA: I love white pumpkins, especially mixed with colorful mums in shades of purple and (Grant, close your eyes!) burgundy, on a front porch.

KERI: Looks like I’m alone on this. Here goes: This year I bought so many pumpkins in various shapes and colors that I actually lost count. I love the mix, but I think the lone white pumpkin is my least favorite. Something about it just looks like it couldn’t quite make it to orange.  Obviously I liked it enough to buy it (and the variation is refreshing), but in my mind, nothing competes with a field full of bright orange pumpkins. I mean, just look at this picture, and tell me I’m wrong. I dare you.

KAYLA: White pumpkins feel too elegant for me. And I’m with Keri, one lone white pumpkin with a group of orange just feels out of place. I’ll go with a white pumpkin only if it’s decorated right:

DAVID HAYNES: That clip-art pumpkin is the coolest. As for orange and white, I have a knee-jerk aversion to that color scheme in general. I’m not sure why.

KAYLA: LOL, David. Curious…

JESSICA: I’ll admit, there is just nothing like a sea of orange pumpkins in the fall, but I’ve been practically babying white pumpkins this year. The first pumpkin I held in my hand for the season was a teeny white pumpkin I found in the break room. And then I went to the pumpkin patch where I came across an entire bin of white pumpkins…

Jessica: “They’re called ‘Baby Boo’. Isn’t that just the CUTEST?”

Now this is in my kitchen:

Oh also, while we’re on white pumpkin projects:

LIZ: Last year I admitted my obsession with decorative gourds (It’s that season now…) and that extends to white pumpkins. They really bring together a random arrangement of multi-colored squash. And they’re the absolute best for displaying designs, like these cool decoupaged botanicals and leaves from Terrain via Country Living:

I also feel like they transition better from Halloween to Thanksgiving since they’re not associated with jack-o’-lantern makin’.

White pumpkins are fine, but orange fits our style better. Orange is my second favorite color after red, so I use a lot of it for fall holidays, and I like the way orange pumpkins just seem to glow even without lights. In our home, white pumpkins would not even be noticeable, or worse yet would just look dull.

The white pumpkin in the first photo would be nice decorative piece that adds somewhat of uber chic vibe to a space. Nice touch.

Observation — From a distance the small clusters of white pumpkins could pass for bulbs of garlic.
