Happy Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Day! What’s your favorite sport to watch? My favorite is ski jumping, but figure skating is a close second. Whatever sport you love most, I think we can all agree that Sochi has transformed its buildings into ultra-mod structures for the Winter Olympics. After spending more than $50 billion dollars — the priciest Olympics in history — the city now looks like it’s straight out of a Jetsons episode.

Bolshoy Ice Dome

Bolshoy means “Major” and is one of the biggest venues of the Olympic ceremonies. It will house ice hockey, the most popular Olympic sport.

Iceberg Skating Palace

The Iceberg Palace will host figure skating and speed skating. The moveable venue will be dismantled and reassembled post-Games as a skating center in another Russian city.

Ice Cube Curling Center

The Ice Cube Curling Center is simplistic and ultra-mod in design. It is also a moveable venue that will be transported to another Russian city post-Games.

Happy Olympics viewing!

I enjoy Short track speed skating. It is a sport that my son used to do and is incredibly dangerous and quick. I also enjoy the luge and bobsled. Hope it is a great Olympics for all the athletes involved.

  3. […] of today, the U.S. has received five medals (two gold and three bronze) at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. We rocked it at alpine skiing, figure skating, freestyle skiing and snowboarding. We have 13 more […]

  4. Well the building really looks something very unique & straight out of head. Iceberg Skating Palace resembles ultra-mod look, hope the accessories & indoor look would be great too

In looking at these photos, I am reminded of two things. First, an aquarium. Second, a high school gymnasium trying to be chic.

yet what the Russians have been good at hiding: they have actually HIRED exterminators to KILL the stray dogs roaming the streets of Sochi, and from what I've learned, there are many. People, tourists who are there for the games, have fed and vetted some of these animals, including a Canadian athlete who rescued FOUR puppies. that being said, the government will NOT allow these rescued animals out of the country, so that anyone who wishes to return to his/her home country with the intent of saving just ONE of these beautiful creatures will be denied the animal's export. the HELL with the games- even as much as I've watched them. this style of governing is completely irrational. people who are ready, willing and able to help are being denied the ability to do so- to save these animals and provide them a caring home. instead the government issues orders to kill them. this is really one F- upped country, and we should all acknowledge this. Top athletes receiving gold medals; stray dogs (who are wanted by others) receiving bullets.
