Mardi Gras is next Tuesday, March 4, so now’s the time to make your way to the Big Easy to catch the most popular parades before Fat Tuesday. And if you can’t make it down to New Orleans this year, then I can almost guarantee your city will have a sampling of Bourbon Street in celebration. Joyeux Mardi Gras!

When it comes to fun, New Orleans takes the prize any day of the week. Then Mardi Gras ups the ante times ten.

So when you talk about The Big Easy, where do you begin, or end? The best answer is just about anywhere, anytime! From high-style to low, over-the-top outlandish or cool and continental, the city is a visual feast for the senses and culinary delight for the appetite.

Where to lay your head after a long night that's carried over into the small hours of the morning?

The Hotel Monteleone is a good bet — a Beaux-Arts style French Quarter landmark with the wildly styled Carousel Piano Bar and Lounge. Late morning wake-ups call for room service, a few laps in the heated roof-top pool and some serious spa time. Even your favorite pooch can be pampered here as the hotel is pet-friendly.

With everything there is to see and do and the whole city in party mode, I don't think there'll be much time to get well-acquainted with the fitness center!

I actually stayed at the Hotel Monteleone last April and it was fantastic. :)

Ah yes, I see your excellent style sense carries over to choice of hotels.

No crazy party stories to tell from me, but each of my past visits have been definitely amusing, entertaining and unexpected. As for Mardi Gras time, thankfully what happens in NOLA stays in NOLA, most likely because the memories are a little fuzzy the next morning!

Great Mardi Gras photo collage, by the way. Vibrant, exciting, brimming with promise. 100% Big Easy.

Thanks for including us! We just spent a great Mardi Gras in rural Louisiana! They call it the REAL Mardi Gras…so much fun! http://www.gypsynester.com/mardigras.htm

Actually, the "REAL" Mardi Gras celebration – the first one in the USA was in Mobile, Alabama. We are all in the midst of celebration now along the Gulf Coast. Schools will be closed next Monday and Tuesday, and we are full of King Cake and Moon Pies!
