Confession time: I’m not in love with Pantone’s 2014 color of the year, Radiant Orchid. As with most purple-pink shades, it’s one of those beautiful colors I just prefer to see in someone else’s home. (I’m still lobbying for one of my fellow editors to paint their cabinets like this.)

So, I’m surprised to say that when I saw this modern dining room with mint and orchid accents from Elle Decor, I kind of fell for it. In a “maybe this is my new guest room color palette” kind of way. Paired with blush pink, white, black and antiqued gold, it feels so spring-fresh, doesn’t it? I also love the combination on a smaller scale in this floral pillow and this metallic necklace.

Are you a fan of the 2014 Color of the Year? Would you add it to your home? Tell me in the comments below.

I was thinking of doing a dark plum accent wall behind my bed and with light gray on the other walls with a white trim to match the plantation shutters that cover the sliding glass door that goes out to a small terrace.. I would then use the gray, plum and radiant orchid in the bedding, now I can splash in some teal or aqua. Thanks,

I painted one wall that is in the living room and continues into the dining room. I looks gorgeous with black and white. But I understand the color is not for everyone.

Any shade of purple is all right with me, although I do prefer the blue side of purple over the red side.

Interesting, KTL! It's funny how color is so subjective. I would definitely say I trend towards the red shades if using purple.

No, I won't be using this color. We just moved to a house that had different shades of purple throughout the house, including lavender kitchen counter-tops! I like the color, but…

It's definitely not a color for everyone. As much as I'm starting to like it, I'm not sure I'd really take the plunge and bring it into my home.

  5. […] HGTV Home Studio intern Samantha inspired me to bring this red carpet stunner into the living room with her Color of the Month pitch of the same vibrant hue. We went with another option (see our pick later this week!), but I love the way this cool-yet-vibrant hue adds punch to spring decor. It’s a great, poppy alternative if you’re not a pastel fan. […]
