Leather — in spring? Yes, that’s what folks are searching for over at Yahoo!. Even as springtime weather is on deck, people still have leather on their minds when it comes to fashion. Leather handbags, leather jackets, leather pants and even leather satchels for men are all sought-after terms spiking right now on Yahoo!.

I’m actually one of those people. The satchel I carry for work is looking rather ragged these days — I’m really stoked about these leather carriers over at J.Crew.

What’s your opinion? Should we be talking about leather in April?

As you know, spring inspires cleaning of household areas that typically get neglected — like the refrigerator. I’m a single guy whose fridge usually only holds a few condiments and bottled water — and even then mine gets amazingly messy. So if I need assistance, I know those of you with families must! Fridge Coasters can help us.

They are easy-to-clean absorbent liners that come in different sizes to fit high traffic areas of your refrigerator. You place them in your fridge to help absorb drips that would normally dry to the bottom of your bins.

They’re rather cute, too. Who would have thought you could make the inside of your refrigerator look stylish?

Happy National Cereal Day! There’s bound to be a lot of milk-related incidents today, and this funky bowl by Fred & Friends takes the idea of crying over spilled milk to new heights.

Help Design Happens celebrate National Cereal Day with this funky cereal bowl by Fred and Friends.

The Spilt Milk bowl is made from flexible silicone, making it virtually impossible for small hands to break. Now if only it could defend against the kids dumping half a gallon of milk all over the counter, it’d be perfect.

So, I have two cats (as you know). One is a hefty 11 pounds, while the other is a petite seven pounds. Because they’re so different, we feed them different amounts of food in separate food dishes. This is a daily struggle. Mahala loves to eat out of D’Artagnan’s dish; D’Artagnan loves to eat out of Mahala’s dish; Mahala loves to sneak and eat out of both dishes. They just can’t seem to get it right. Maybe if I get these chalkboard food dishes and etch their names on the front, they’ll know which is theirs? One can only hope.

I thought I’d give you a little break from our Valentine-inspired posts (we admit that we enjoy the holiday a bit much at HGTV.com) and focus on lighting — “jar lighting” to be exact.

This 5-jar chandelier casts a soft glow when filled with vintage-style bulbs. Hung above tables, counters or in hallways, its lighthearted charm warms up any space.

Farima and I conquered the Atlanta Gift and Home Furnishings Market last week. And I feel pretty confident saying that because we got lost less than 20 times, had no blisters, made it to almost every seminar on our schedule AND visited the must-see showrooms on our list. High five! This trade show is aimed more toward home accessories, and while each company had their own signature style, we were still able to spot some can’t-miss trends throughout.

A clear trend roaming through the design world right now is animals. Whether in pillow form, faux taxidermy or biologically-inspired artwork, they’re everywhere. (Have you seen the Portlandia skit “Put a Bird On It“? It’s like that.) And we’re not just talking birds here. Owled out? Sorry, but owls aren’t going anywhere. If anything, they’ve gotten more popular. We saw owls left and right! But, we saw some unexpected creatures coming out of the woodwork for spring 2013: crustaceans, flamingos, elephants, whales and turtles. These animals are dressing up apparel, accessories and home decor in charming ways.

Recently, we’ve discovered hundreds of people have been searching HGTV.com for “LEGO cufflinks.” Why? Well, none of us in the office can figure it out! If you’re one of our visitors who has been searching, then you know you’ve been getting a disappointing: “Your original search for ‘lego cufflinks’ returned no results.

Have you seen “LEGO cufflinks” on one of our shows? Perhaps one of our sister networks (DIY, Travel Channel or Food Network) have mentioned something to do with them and viewers are getting us confused? Although, I can’t imagine why Travel Channel or Food Network would be talking about such a thing.

This ongoing mystery led me to do a little research on LEGO cufflinks — and well, let me just tell you — these things are pretty darn adorable! I now want a pair! Just look at these from Retro Classy Cufflinks at Etsy.
