Christmas Countdown: Handmade Holiday CardsMake This 3-D Felt Christmas Tree Card

Don’t let this year’s holiday cards become this year’s holiday hassle. Put on a Christmas movie, get out the scissors and start crafting. Another day, another inspiring Christmas project! Today is all about door decor. Your home’s front door is one of the first thing guests see, so it’s a great place to focus your decorating efforts. But you don’t have to spend a lot of time (or money) to make a statement; for most projects, you just need a wreath form, some hot glue and a good idea. (Speaking of hot glue…check out Marianne’s easy pom-pom wreath how-to.)

Holiday Wreath Ideas

Take your wreath in a traditional direction by adding moss and cranberries, or go crazy and affix your favorite holiday foods, like jelly beans, peppermints or even pistachios. And don’t feel like you have to go circular, either: a square picture frame or a cardboard monogram can look equally chic. How are you dressing up your door this year?

You’ve probably been tossing around idea after idea for this year’s holiday party. Steer away from the cliche “tacky Christmas sweater” theme and try something entirely new. Your friends will love it, and it will be the perfect way to end the year.

Host a Crafty Kids' Holiday Party

Try party themes that require more guest interactivity, like fondue or holiday crafts. It’s a great way for different groups of friends to meet and mingle, plus it puts less pressure on the host/hostess to ensure everyone is occupied or entertained.

I’ve listed 10 of our favorite holiday party themes below. The best part? They’re SO easy to pull together because we have the (free!) printables and decorating how-tos right there for you. Party on!

Christmas trees are all about tradition for me: I love picking the perfect live tree, turning up the Christmas music and dressing the tree with ornaments full of history, like the painted glass globes my great-grandma brought from Germany. But since I spend lots of time looking at holiday decor, I like to mix it up, too. This year, I’m setting up two trees: One in bold, silver tinsel and one in traditional green.

Still deciding on your tree’s theme? Whether you go all out with an over-the-top themed tree or like to keep it traditional, we’ve got tons of ideas to help you choose.

Snowman Christmas Tree

If you’re considering the two-tree route, this adorable snowman is a great way to bring holiday cheer into multiple rooms without investing in a whole new set of ornaments.

Do you change your tree every year or keep it traditional?

If you’re anything like me, there’s never a free or lazy Saturday in December. Somehow the month flies by as I spend every weekend marking things off my holiday to-do list. One of them, I’m sure, is finishing up (or starting!) outdoor holiday decorating. Today is the perfect day to do it. Grab a thermos of hot cocoa, crank up the holiday music and get to work.

Outdoor Christmas Decorating Ideas

Not sure where to get started? We have plenty of outdoor decorating ideas for inspiration. My personal favorite is the wine bottle candelabras (pictured). Start stashing those empty wine bottles, remove the labels and spray paint black. Add tapered candles and light the wicks to create a bond between the candle and the bottle. Place them together in a grouping near your front porch for a dramatic holiday look.

Here at HGTV.com, we’ve been thinking about this Christmas since before last December 25th. That’s because we want to help you host the best-ever holiday party, give the coolest homemade gifts and make the best wreath on the block.

We know you can do it! That’s why we’re counting down to the big day, advent-calendar style. (24 days until the big day!) Every day from now until Christmas, come back for a new holiday decor project, handmade gift or party idea.

Countdown to Christmas - Advent Calendar

Today, why not make your own advent calendar? This kitschy takeout box version is unexpected, and holds more than just a token piece of candy. Fill each box with stocking stuffers for the kids, or stuff each one with an ornament to add to the tree as Christmas gets closer. How does your family count down to Christmas?
