Ask anyone around here to name three things about me and they’ll probably say “she loves cats” as one. It’s true! My friends always send me the latest and greatest cat links from BuzzFeed; I’m always checking in on Lolcats for a morning laugh; and I definitely bought kitty flats to complete my fall/winter wardrobe. (I have this ear warmer, too.) I just love ‘em. I have two of my own at home, D’Artagnan and Mahala. They were both adopted and are now spoiled to death, of course. This week, I decided to ditch colors and patterns and make something that’s shamelessly cute for your Monday enjoyment.

See that cutie in the bottom-left picture posing like a ham? That’s my three year old, Mahala. I just had to include her in there.

So, I’m sure you saw our beautiful Color of the Month for February, robin’s egg blue. I couldn’t help but be in awe of Liz‘s wintergreen pitch (it was actually runner-up!), though. I mean, whoa. It’s brighter than mint green but greener than turquoise. You can even say it resembles the Pantone hue Cockatoo. Many of us loved it paired with pink, gold and neutrals and felt it would be a perfect representation of February. But, you know how our Color of the Month meetings can get. Maybe we’ll put wintergreen back into the running for spring. What do you think?

HGTV Headquarters here in Knoxville, Tenn. got its first taste of winter two weeks ago with a midday snowstorm. Then, on Friday, we received our first official ice storm of the season. Trees, bushes and porch railings were all covered in icicles and unmelted snow. I don’t mind waking up to that every once in a while! Have you seen snow flurries yet this year?

So, has everyone read Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, seen the on-stage adaptation or checked out the newest film that hit theaters last month? If the all-star cast and singing isn’t enough to reel you in, then the 19th-century sets and costumes surely will. I was stunned with “Les Miz” costume designer Paco Delgado’s accurate portrayal of period fashions. According to an article on EW.com, Paco says he drew his design inspiration from surviving garments and made the musical’s costumes 90 percent accurate to 19th-century Paris, although some details were added for a more theatrical look.

Happy New Year, Design Happens readers! One of our first official posts of 2013 was announcing January’s Color of the Month pick as voted on by the editors here at HGTV.com. Did you see it? Gold came out on top! And I don’t want to brag or anything, but I totally pitched it. Victory is so sweet. To kick off this year’s Mood Board Monday posts, I’m taking a cue from our winning color.

If you can remember, we chose pink champagne as our Color of the Month last January. We felt it was fresh, bubbly and the perfect hue to bring us into the new year. Exactly a year later, I still feel the same way about this soft and feminine shade of pink. So, raise a glass, if you will, to pink champagne. Cheers!

I’ve featured some really bold and vivid colors for Mood Board Monday, like electric blue, fuchsia and fire engine red. This week, as people start winding down for the holidays, I’m going to bring my color selection down a few notches, too. How about something a little more soothing and subdued to ring in the week before Christmas?
