Did you think I was joking when I said our Color of the Month meetings get a little heated?
Well, check this out. During our last meeting we had a little hidden camera business (okay, not really hidden), just to give you a glimpse of our Color Team in action.

Alright. Lets go behind the scenes. Here’s how it all went down: Monday: we have a production meeting where I, little old Emily, tell everybody whats about to happen for the next 6 days (yes we shoot 6 days a week, nutso i know).
Look 1 or Look 2?
Have you ever had a wish that actually came true? I believe in the law of attraction and all that mumbo jumbo, so this shouldn’t be such a surprise to me, but –IT IS!
As a television producer, I’m used to producing other peoples’ dreams (or nightmares –if we go all the way back to my dating or talk show days), this time it’s as much about ME as it is about the people in the show!
Here’s the deal, HGTV decided to make their Change the World Campaign about helping some Veterans rebuild their rundown transitional houses. Not surprisingly, it touched a chord with millions of people across the country…and the votes streamed into HGTV.com/changetheworld. Now, it’s only fair that I fess up that I’ve always loved the audience-voting thing. My career started on the show that did audience voting better than anyone. I can just hear the audience yelling…one-two-three…tic-tic-tic…with percentage numbers flashing…tic-tic-tic…people waving their fingers…tic-tic-tic…on Love Connection!
So the voting was done and now the HGTV decision-makers were doing what they do best…making decisions! And they wanted ME, & my team (trust me you can’t do this alone) to produce the TV special!
We titled it Change the World: American Heroes and it was a personal labor of love…my Papa and Bampy (yes Grampy with a B) served in WWII, two out of my three Uncle John’s fought in Vietnam, and my cousin Neil ended up doing two tours in Iraq. Think how many people you know that have served…this show is a tribute to them.
Weird thing is that for my entire career, I’ve wished for a show about veterans…even way back during my undergrad years at Framingham State College (when Supertramp blasted on my boom box and I typed reports on my typewriter). My group in Documentary class chose the local fire station over my idea of the local veterans. The vets lost out, but we did get a kitchen fire! Might have made for an interesting documentary…if our camera guy hadn’t erased the footage (sorry Dave)!
Anyway, you can see my wish come true as you watch HGTV & Rebuilding Together help some American Heroes on Veterans Day, 11/11/09 at 8pm on HGTV.
Maybe you can help my next wish come true….high ratings!
My job rocks…I’ve been a huge HGTV fan ever since it first hit the airwaves, so when I started working here two years ago developing new shows for the network, you can imagine how excited I was. The excitement hasn’t died down, and I wanted to share it with you. This month I am looking forward to two big premieres on HGTV:
HGTV’s Top 10 is awesome for many reasons. Personally, I love looking at pretty spaces, even if they aren’t necessarily attainable for me, I find them inspiring. Each week we’ll showcase ten examples of stellar style from the nation’s leading designers and architects.
I Love that long Fireplace!
Is there anything better than an unobstructed view?
The tours of these beautiful spaces are intercut with an illustrious group of industry experts talking about what makes these rooms so unique. You can catch HGTV’s Top 10 at 8:30PM every Tuesday starting TONIGHT!
Home is about more than the furniture and paint color. What really makes it HOME is what goes on inside those beautifully decorated walls! That’s why I love Leader of the Pack. The cutest family ever is looking for the perfect dog, so we give them eight furry friends to choose from. The family of five has eight dogs move in with them! Through a series of challenges, each week the family votes to decide which pup goes (Don’t worry! Each dog gets placed in another loving home!). Meet my three favorites…
The series ends when the family finally picks the Leader of The Pack, and that dog becomes part of their family. This show is so great. The entire programming team got SO into the competition, we all had bets on which dog would win! I promise you’ll fall in love with the family and the dogs! Leader of the Pack premieres on Sunday April 26th at 8:00PM.
What shows are you excited about and what do you want to see more of?
