I see stunning photographs of homes every day — I mean, come on, look where I work! So, when an image catches my eye that I can’t stop admiring, it’s noteworthy. And, this is one of them.

Deep blue damask wallpaper and plush velvet draperies are paired with an ornate tray ceiling and beautiful woodwork for this sophisticated, traditional dining room. Oversized upholstered dining chairs and a crystal chandelier add drama and glamour to the Candice Olson-designed space.

America is in the midst of a superhero craze with the recent release of Captain America: The First Avenger and the after effects of Comic-Con. While I’ve always been a fan of fictional superheroes and their ongoing save-the-day adventures, I prefer real-life superhero moments of the design kind. Some have been best friends who’ve rescued me from style mishaps and design tragedies of epic proportions. HGTV’s David Bromstad ranks up there, too. But my most amazing superhero design moment is all thanks to Mom during my recent move.

Going from a studio to a two-bedroom apartment meant that except for a bedroom set, life in my new home began with every other room pretty much bare. Then, Mom came to the rescue! She handed over a favorite sofa of hers, side tables, a coffee table, artwork for the walls and home decor she felt would look better in my pad than hers. Like Clark Kent in a phone booth, my new place transformed into home. And if it wasn’t for her, I’d probably still be sitting on crates on the floor in front of the television.

What is your most memorable design superhero moment? Did someone bravely stop you from covering your floors in puke-green carpet? Or did a particular Candice Olson design tip completely inspire you to transform your living room into a stylish masterpiece? Maybe you are a self-identified design superhero?

You didn’t think we’d leave High Point without giving you a peek at Candice Olson’s new pieces, did you? We stopped by Norwalk Furniture’s showroom yesterday and were greeted by her incredible new color scheme of truffles and ice. Candice’s combinations of serene blues, grey-browns and bright whites create a relaxing, yet sophisticated atmosphere.

Staff at HGTV headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn. returned to work this morning chattering about snow falling around the area. Unless you live in or around the Great Smoky Mountains, snow in these parts is rare. So, it takes just a few flakes to stir up excitement about the possibility of more of the white stuff and time spent away from school and work sledding, building snowmen or just snuggled up at home. A good snow is a beautiful thing – in so many ways.

If you like the crisp, clean look of a blanket of snow, why not bring some of the beauty of the white stuff indoors? Enjoy the peacefulness of being surrounded by white (or accents of white) in your home décor. If you’re stuck indoors by winter weather, check out options online. Use HGTV Marketplace to create a Wish List of what you like. That’s how I found these wonderful, white things:

To whiten up a room, start with a white light fixture such as this white glass globe light from Thomas Lighting.

For warmth underfoot, choose a white rug with some pattern such as this 5 X 7 geometric design from MAT.

A few well-placed white accessories such as this Filigree Bowl from Target is an inexpensive way to add a splash of white to any decor.

For more monochromatic drama, add a piece or two of comfortable furniture in white. This is my idea of cozy — the Petrie Apartment Sofa from Crate and Barrel. Keep a white room uncluttered and clean by stowing your audio visual equipment in a cabinet such as this distressed white armoire by Ballard Designs.

For more white ideas, often HGTV hosts will feature the color white in their rooms. This Thursday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m., watch Divine Design and see how Candice Olson uses touches of white in a European-Inspired kitchen makeover. And watch a Deserving Design Christmas Special this Saturday, Dec. 6, at 8:30 p.m. as Vern Yip uses white furniture to create a contemporary look in an old firehouse.

Vern lightens and brightens with white.

If you’re not ready to devote an entire room to the lovely color white, Christmas is a great time to experiment with all shades of white. I love this white 47 inch tree from West Elm and this set of ceramic tree napkin holders.

How do you decorate with the color white?
What’s your favorite way to spend a snowy afternoon?
