It’s summer, and it’s hot. That’s all the reason I need to reach for the ice cream. Kayla, I see your popsicles and raise you this peach-covered ice cream terrine. (Make one for your next dinner party!) Aside from its deliciousness, I love looking at this dessert: the vibrant orange peaches, the bright-green mint and the warm-hued vanilla ice cream.

Ice Cream Terrine With Peaches |  Orange + Green Kids’ Room

This delicious, bright palette is perfect for a kids’ room without being either too girly or too masculine. Melissa Esplin created this bedroom (on a $0 budget, no less) as a shared space for her baby boy and young daughter. Isn’t it so cheerful? I especially like the Dachshund lamp. And while the bright colors are kid-friendly, they’re universal enough that your child will still love them long after they transition to a big-kid bed.

Everywhere I look, I’m seeing beautiful, watery blues. Last week, I revealed our agua-inspired Color of the Month, Paradise Blue. Yesterday, I spotted this cerulean blue moodboard over on Camille Styles. Isn’t it like a beach vacation for your eyeballs? Then today, I spied this crazy-beautiful dining room at housetohome:

This room would fit right into my Monaco Blue Pinterest board: The deep blue pendant light and modern plastic chairs have the same reflective quality that’s so appealing in the deep blue sea. A striped rug brings even more blue hues into this cool dining nook.

What do you think: Is there too much blue in this monochromatic space, or are you ready to grab a paintbrush?

I’m not the best at helping plants to thrive (hey — I’m working on it!), but that doesn’t mean I don’t dream of having a potting shed. I mean, just look at this one from HGTVGardens reader Barbara Stanley:

Potting Shed |  Spring Outfit

With veggies and flowers likely off to a good start, consider adding some color to ye old potting shed or potting bench. Barbara was inspired by the cherry blossoms outside her garden getaway, but your inspiration could come from anywhere — a favorite spring outfit, your exterior trim or even our color of the month (Paradise Blue!). Will a colorful potting shed make me a better gardener? I say yes — and it’s sure to help you out, too.

If you’ve been following along with Tuesday Huesday from the beginning, you’ve likely seen some trends emerge in my color pairings. You may have noticed I love bright colors, and also that I’m slightly obsessed with oh-so-soothing Caribbean blue. So it’s no wonder that I’m considering this bright blue color palette for my kitchen:

Blue and Orange Kitchen Color Palette

Modern Kitchen :: Apricot Panna Cotta

It’s a slightly more muted version of this beach-inspired color palette I featured back in February. I love how a small orange accent provides a bright focal point in both the modern kitchen and this apricot-honey panna cotta. What do you think — should I order the tile already?

I’m kind of obsessed with all things 1950s: houses, furniture, dishware (this is my dream collection!) and even motels. Some might prefer shiny new hotels, but to me there’s nothing cooler than a well-kept time capsule along the side of the highway. This atomic-era motel caught photographer Paul Vanzella’s eye, and the amazing combination of pink and aqua caught mine, too. (The pink Cadillac doesn’t hurt.)

A slightly more muted version of this palette takes on a sophisticated tone in this living room created by Portuguese designer Maria Barros (spotted via House of Turquoise.)  I especially like the way Barros used bright orange accents to add a little bit of vibrancy to this easy-on-the-eyes room.

Mother’s Day is almost here, and we’ve been scheming up gift ideas here at HGTV.com for months now. One of my favorites? This drop-dead gorgeous lilac bouquet.  The lilacs and French lavender pair perfectly with the bright-green lady’s mantle, and the vintage pitcher makes it sweet and classic. (Like my mom!) But don’t confine apple green and lavender to a vase: the combination looks just as fresh in this little girl’s room designed by Jennifer Duneier.

If we were playing a word association game about patterns, “picnic” would be the first thing I’d pair with “red gingham.” (Closely followed by “vintage apron.”) There’s something incredibly homey about the pattern, which this sweet found object collage by Mandy Lynne Design captures so well.

I’d never considered taking the pattern from picnic table to focal point until I saw this amazing living room. It takes the gingham wallpaper often associated with, say, ’80s country decor and ornamental chickens squarely into this century by pairing it with eclectic accents like the hand-carved mantel and original artwork. The incredible floral rug makes the perfect visual counterpoint.

Carrot cake is one of my favorite spring desserts — it’s comforting, homey and just a little bit spicy. (Also, there is cream cheese frosting.)  This Moroccan-inspired bathroom’s palette is like the design equivalent of the beloved cake: It not only matches the warm, neutral tones, but the worldly accent pieces, modern geometric tile and striped curtains add just enough spice to this mostly-neutral space.

I think I will have one of each: one inviting bathroom, one slice of cake. How about you?

Sure, I may have trudged to work in my winter coat today, but I’m already looking forward to bright spring fashions. I love how a few on-trend pieces (like emerald flats paired with coral jeans) can revitalize wardrobe basics, and it’s the same in this sweet little girl’s room.

Neutral walls come to life with a fun gallery wall full of bright emerald touches. I especially love the embroidery hoops filled with springy fabrics. But the real star of this space? The ever-popular ombre dresser in shades of coral. Yes, it’s perfect for a nursery or kids’ room, but I’d gladly find a spot for it in my bedroom, too.

Seeing groups of yellow and purple flowers always cheers me up in late winter; the blooms are like spring’s first official order of business. Inside the house, this combo of color wheel opposites is less common since it can be tricky to balance the two bold hues.

To get it right, take a cue from some of spring’s first blossoms. The colors of daffodils and crocuses look fabulous against the backdrop of the neutral, still-thawing ground. It’s the same in your living room: accents of deep purple and mustard yellow add color and vibrancy to a warm gray base hue (without making the room into a Lakers shrine.)
