The bold color palette of Saguaro Palm Springs is the work of renowned architects Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat, of New York-based Stamberg Aferiat Architecture. The property has been infused with hues that reflect the indigenous flowers of the Southwestern desert.

This photo is pretty Pin-worthy, don’t you think?

February is one of those months that can’t seem to make up its mind weather-wise. Snow flurries fell in East Tennessee this weekend, all while my yard’s first daffodils bloomed away. Robin’s egg blue (our pick for February’s color of the month) is perfect for this unpredictable period: it’s cool enough for winter, yet it brings to mind all that’s to come when the ground thaws: think Easter egg hunts and spring celebrations.

Adding gold and neutrals to the mix, like designer Katie Ridder did in the dining room on the left, creates a traditional palette with just a hint of luxury.

Happy New Year! All of us at HGTV are home ringing in the new year in our pajamas, but we didn’t forget to vote on our first Color of the Month of 2013 before the offices closed. And what color had us ready to embrace the coming year? It’s warm, it’s shiny, it glows…it’s GOLD!

Gold Color of the Month January

Color Team member Jill pitched Gold in December, but it didn’t make the cut for 2012. But then Kayla put her spin on it and suddenly we all had the Midas Touch. After the festivities of New Years Eve, the richness of gold just feels right.

Gold Sideboard and Accessories

So what say you? Are you feeling the warm glow of gold to kick off the new year? How would you decorate with this always-in-style metallic?

For more golden inspiration, check out the HGTV Color of the Month Pinterest board.

Here at HGTV.com, we’re already fans of saturated, moody emerald green — we even chose it as our September Color of the Month! So we were thrilled when we heard that color authority Pantone crowned the color its 2013 Color of the Year.

This sophisticated shade has slowly worked its way into fashion and home, from red carpet looks to vibrant home accents. Pantone considered the color’s emotional appeal, too: “Symbolically, emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world,” remarked Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in today’s press release.

One of the hue’s best qualities is its ability to be both luxurious and casual, both modern and classic. Designer Andrea Schumacher gave the classic white kitchen a twist by painting this home’s island an unexpected emerald green and pairing the hue with blue floral wallpaper and Murano glass chandeliers.

Making plans to put up your Christmas tree? Try something new this year! Brian Patrick Flynn suggests a color combination of violet, brown, bronze and white as a great way to add masculine appeal to your home. For proper balance, stick with brown and bronze as the dominant colors, with sprinkles of violet for accent, and set it all against a white tree.

This month, Google lifted the veil off its massive and beautiful data centers. These facilities are typically shrouded in secrecy because they are the brains behind tech companies.

The company has been working on building its data centers for over 10 years. Google’s centers take advantage of renewable energy and are environmentally friendly.

So, what did you think of our little video last month? We loved giving you a sneak peek of what it’s like to work here at HGTV.com. In fact, we had so much fun shooting this video that we decided to do it all over again for October.

October Color of the Month Meeting

After all, don’t you want to see how the drama went down between Liz and Kayla? Or what happens when someone (ahem) innocently forgets to invite Grant to the meeting? Check it out, y’all:

We like to think we work in a pretty fun place, and we’re already working on our pitches for November’s Color of the Month. What color would you guys like to see featured on the blog?

I don’t mean to brag, but I have an amazing dress sock collection. Ah-may-zing! I get the biggest rush when I am able to match wild and fun socks with whatever I’m wearing to the office that day. My motto is: “All business upstairs, but a party downstairs!”

For my recent birthday, I received some spectacular socks (thanks, Mom). Just look!

Fun Socks

Jealous of my collection? Don’t be! You too can have some fun socks! My go-to sock spots are: The Joy of Socks, Sock it to Me, Absolute Socks and Bold Socks.

And if you’re curious — yes,  I every now and then must go boring and wear ho-hum blue, black or brown socks. I was in a wedding recently and wore the standard black — I feared my socks may take attention off the bride.

What say you? Guys, are you bold enough to throw some flair on your feet? Ladies, think the man in your life would appreciate a pair of wild socks?

Well, it’s October. And for a lot of my friends and coworkers, this is their favorite time of year. The air is cool, football is on TV, and the leaves are putting on a show. Me? I am just cold. Luckily October’s Color of The Month is a real winter warmer.

Bright Red Sideboard

That’s right, Scarlet Red. Or Bright Red. See, this month Kayla and Liz, well…they pitched the same color. They just called it by different names—Kayla sticking to Bright Red, while Liz went with Scarlet. Which honestly, is all well and good. Great minds think alike and all that. Except…

Bright Red Pillows

The accusations started flying. Kayla accused Liz of stealing her Pinterest pins. Liz called Kayla’s color name pedestrian. And just like that, we had a fight* on our hands. Let me just say…I can’t wait for you to see the video in a couple of weeks. It makes last months Battle of the Greens look like a tea party.

In the meantime, check out the HGTV Color of The Month Pinterest board and tell us what you think. Would you call this color Bright Red or Scarlet Red? Better yet, would you decorate with this spicy shade?

*Okay, maybe not a fight. But there was heated banter and a voice was raised!

We at HGTV love color — you know that. So of course, I had to highlight a news item that is, well, at its core — all about color.

Lady Gaga‘s new fragrance, Fame, is black. Now, I’m not referring to its packaging (yes, it’s black too) — I’m talking about the fluid itself! It’s black, people (it says so right on the box). It’s the first-ever perfume to be a color that, when sprayed, turns clear (don’t worry, you won’t stain your clothes).
Black Perfume
Gaga partnered with Coty Beauty to create the one-of-a-kind perfume. Though skeptical at first that it could even be done, Coty Beauty executives are now crediting Gaga as the driving force behind one of the most important innovations in the fragrance industry in 20-years.

Whether you’re a Lady Gaga fan or not, don’t you find the new color technology rather intriguing?

It’s officially the dog days of summer, at least it is here at HGTV headquarters. The temperatures have been coming in over 100 degrees and everyone has taken to the air conditioning. When it’s sweltering outside, you probably think of hot colors like Pantone’s Tangerine Tango, or maybe an intense chili pepper red. But this month we’re making a case for what might seem an unusual choice for July: Driftwood Grey.

I know what you’re thinking, grey? For summer? But bear with me. Instead of thinking of stark, cold, wintery tones, picture the weather-beaten, sun-warmed grey of boardwalks and beach houses. We love how it pairs with sunny hues, but it looks equally great set off by neutrals.

Lili’s Driftwood Grey Pinterest board won our team over with its great use of the color, inside and out. When pitching her choice, she summed it up perfectly, “Driftwood grey evokes coastal climates for me, particularly the New England coastline. I think of sunbaked and wind-battered shingles on Cape Cod and gorgeous pieces of water-worn, knotty tree trunks. This is the lighter, breezier cousin of flannel grey and perfect for summer.”

What do you think? Are you feeling Driftwood Grey in the heat of this sultry summer?

Every month, the “Color Team” here at HGTV headquarters meets to battle it out. Our mission? Pitch a color for the upcoming color of the month, and stop at nothing until your color gets the crown.

We come armed with our Pinterest pinboards and even wearing our colors. And after debating the merits of every color under the sky (a Pantone Cerulean Blue sky, of course), one color reigns supreme. Or, in the case of June…several colors. Because this month? We’re breaking the rules and setting your retinas ablaze with neon hues.

Via: Jenni Juurinen

Neon! It was the pinboard that ruled supreme, and it’s everywhere right now. Our own Briana was ahead of the curve this spring with her neon accent round up, and Farima just rolled out a gorgeous neon photo gallery. Erin Loechner has us eying neon spray paint with her latest how-to. Even some of our favorite design bloggers are on board the neon train—everyone from Oh Joy!  to Coco + Kelley have been inspired by these highlighter tones. And me? I have a neon yellow pedicure and just picked up a neon pink retro style swimsuit for the pool. It’s very Cyndi Lauper-meets-Esther Williams, trust me.

It’s a sizzling color that makes a statement, so tell us: would you incorporate neon into your décor?

This week, I – along with a couple of other editors - have traveled from Knoxville to New York City for ICFF, where there are rows and rows of contemporary furnishings to drool over. Aside from seeing a lot of up-and-coming trends, we got to meet with designer Jonathan Adler at the Kohler “We Love Color” press event. We got to speak with him briefly and check out his colorful sinks he designed for Kohler. But what caught my eye the most were the bathtub benches he specifically designed just for the event.

 Jonathan Adler Bathtub Bench

The Piccadilly Yellow color, one of four special edition colors, really popped, and the anchor pillow paired with the other patterned pillows made the bench the center of attention – aside from Jonathan, of course.

It was a blast to get a sneak peek at the kitchen and bathroom sink colors. I think it’s safe to say it was the highlight of ICFF.

In previous months, we’ve introduced you to colors that you may not have previously considered using in your home. Grapecopper and coral were big hits; however, pink champagne and mint green received mixed reviews. We think we’ve hit on a color for May that’s definitely trending, can be used either as a neutral or as a dramatic punch of color and is undeniably timeless.

Wanna know what it is?

Sometimes I think fashion has the edge when it comes to new trends. Whatever the flavor of the day, it seems there’s a thrifty or cautious way to incorporate it into your look. Take for example the explosion of neon accessories I’m seeing everywhere. Where fashionistas have belts, socks and manicures, there’s not always an equivalent for home decor enthusiasts. That said, I think I’ve found some fun and relatively inexpensive/low-commitment ways to inject a little neon into your life.

I enjoy all of these goodies, but I’m the most sad to have missed out on the neon extension cords in college. For some reason, dorm rooms have a real shortage of outlets, and even with power strips, I feel like I constantly had to use extension cords for things like the TV. Some hot pink and electric green cords really would have jazzed up the joint. (And maybe the shock of color would have kept me awake while I was studying for finals!)
