Designer Tyler Wisler says, “Everyone always wants to feel like they’re on vacation. I think it’s just a fantasy everyone has, then alas life takes over, but there are ways to keep the spirit of your favorite spots alive.”

This week, our online audience must be remembering summer beach trips with a renewed interest in coastal-style design. These cool beach-inspired bathrooms have been particularly popular.

You can bring your favorite vacation destination to any room. Tyler says, “This bedroom I did was a city dwelling for a pre-teen at the time. They summered in Nantucket, so to bring in that easy breezy relaxed feel, I kept the palette subdued. I added small touches like a piece of coral alongside an almost urchin-like textured table lamp. This gave the feel of another place, but always speaking to the vernacular of where the actual space is located.”

Whether you’re creating a vacation-spa bathroom or just adding a simple coastal accent, be careful not to go overboard.

Tyler says “I think it’s important, whether you’re incorporating beachy elements, tropical touches, or a bit of Southwest flair, it should be used sparingly, in essence maximizing its importance. Remember less is more! Sometimes an overkill of any particular style could bring a space down and make it look cheesy instead of breezy.”

Raise your hand if you’re glad it’s summer! I’m certainly happy the sun is making a stunning debut and so is my home’s interior. We practically skipped the spring season here in Knoxville, Tenn., so my home was still feeling the dreary winter blues when summer came along. Not anymore! After lusting over the collection of palettes from HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams, I’m ready to douse my place in paint. Goodbye, beige! Last week, I shared my top five summer design tips and ideas, from outdoor entertaining to decorating with flea market finds, and this week, I’m bringing you my top three ways to decorate with color this summer. It’s true. You don’t have to be a blue blood to bring a preppy design style to your home. Color combinations once associated with early 80s yuppies, British gentlemen’s clubs and university sororities are finding their way into everyday homes. My favorite style? Subtle yet traditional stripes with a pop of yellow. But then again, my girly side totally adores the Lily Pulitzer-style pairing of pink and green.

I’m kind of obsessed with vintage vignettes. (Okay, majorly obsessed.) Apparently, so is Jeska, the creator, writer and editor of Lobster and Swan, a blog dedicated to sharing decorating ideas, daily discoveries, inspiring photos and recipes too amazing to look at when hungry.

Easter Sunday brings back so many … itchy memories for me. I never threw a tantrum while getting dressed. I kept it together because I knew if I cooperated and wore the fluffy floral dress, uncomfortable patent leather shoes, white gloves, straw hat and smiled through the family photo shoot that I’d be rewarded with all the Marshmallow Peeps and Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs I could eat. While I still love eating Easter Sunday brunch at my grandmother’s, I’m so happy that I get to pick out a soft sundress of my choosing. And decorate my home to my heart’s delight. Autumn has been, and will always be, my favorite season. Which says a lot, because I generally don’t play favorites. My tastes change often and I hate hierarchies, so put 2 + 2 together and you’ve got a recipe 4 a pretty scatterbrained girl. Ha! Do you see what I did there?
