Every time I think I’m totally over the bird trend, something comes along and makes me want to give our feathered friends another chance. Today, it’s these Rocking Birds from West Elm.
These little guys charm me with their whimsical wooden rockers, and I think they’d look great on a bookshelf in a kids room, don’t you?
Confession time: I can’t get the first slice of pie out of the dish without making a complete mess of it (I usually glop some whipped cream on top to try and hide my shame). Maybe one of these gorgeous acrylic pie servers would help distract from my ineptitude?
Pretty, right? They’d be the perfect accompaniment to a gift of homemade pie. After all, pie is the gift that keeps on giving. Isn’t that how the saying goes?
JESSICA: I think it’s pretty snazzy, but if I actually had it in my home I would be driven to madness attempting to “clean” it.
BRIAN PATRICK FLYNN: Most of the time splatter paint on furniture makes me want to shoot it with a machine gun or set it on fire in the middle of a tiny island where there are no trees to harm or wildlife to displace. To do it right, it really takes a skilled artist. Splatter paint is 100% about balance. Negative space is the trick. And keeping the palette tight. Stick with three colors or several shades of the same color: violet, plum, grape, all against a black or silver fabric.
SARAH: I can envision this chair in my home (as an accidental DIY project that would also feature Cheetos orange-colored finger prints). It would look fabulous in my kids’ playroom.
Was I the only kid that went through an origami phase? I think I was more drawn to all of the pretty paper than I was to actually mastering the craft. This amazing Origami Lamp from Moth makes me wish I’d been more diligent in my studies:
Or, maybe I should just leave this to the experts. With my luck I’d start a fire.
I love air plants. In fact, I have a sweet little air plant at my desk, hanging out in a glass globe. The globe is fine, but wouldn’t one of these Air Plant Pods dress up my cubicle?
I love that they mimic a sea creature, all while supporting your air plant in high style.
Jewelry storage is so tricky, don’t you think? I have my accessories draped on hooks and dumped in trinket bowls, and the whole effect comes across as sloppy. I think the clear solution is a Bling Box.
You can customize your Bling Box with dozens of backgrounds, but my favorite is this painterly scene by artist Amy Sia. I think it would elevate my jumbled bangles and tangled pedants to a work of art.
I’ll be the first to admit that the mason jar trend is getting to be a bit played out. After all, Pinterest is filled with clever and adorable uses for these humble jars. But I had to share one of my favorite mason jar hacks, this simple idea from the Six in the Suburbs blog.
For my next summer soiree, I won’t be a a slave to the bar cart, mixing drinks for my guests all night. Nope, I’ll be making drinks ahead of time, sealing them in mason jars, and putting them on ice. Self serve never looked so good.
Here at HGTV, we spend a lot, I mean a lot, of time thinking, talking, and reading about design. Because of this, it takes something pretty special to capture our attention. So when I happened across the website for O’verlays and gasped at my desk, I knew I had stumbled upon something that I had to show you.
O’verlays are thin, lightweight pieces of fretwork that can be used to dress up plain Jane dressers, cabinets, even headboards. They are made to be painted and customized and come in a wide variety of patterns and sizes. The project gallery on the O’verlays website is chock full of ideas and inspiration and left me thinking of half a dozen different ways I could use this product in my own home. What do you think? Would you jazz up a piece of furniture with an O’verlay?
