Happy Thanksgiving and warmest wishes to you all! (Especially if you live in or are traveling through those parts of the country getting blasted by blizzards and Arctic chill this holiday. Brrrr.)
Etsy seller Bekah Jennings believes in the power of words. That, combined with her love of homemaking, led her to hand printing inspiring messages on banners for holidays and everyday celebrations.

In early October, I visited the set of HGTV’s new craft special, 15 Fresh Handmade Gift Ideas. I don’t believe I’m going overboard or being utterly biased when I say that this first-ever HGTV/Etsy/Michele Beschen/Taniya Nayak collaboration is the best handmade TV show of the year. And if you think I’m reaching, tune in and judge for yourself this Friday at 7/6.
Hosts Taniya Nayak and Michele Beschen share more than 100 handmade creative gift ideas in 15 of the most-popular gift categories. We’re talking one-of-a-kind presents by Etsy crafters perfect for men, women, kids, pets, trendsetters, techies and everyone else on your holiday gift list. Plus, there’s easy-to-follow instructions for 15 fresh handmade gifts you can create that are demonstrated in the show and outlined on HGTV.com.
Michele Beschen explains the project.
Add a touch of kitsch to your kitchen with tea towels.
My grandmother loves to make and give tea towels as gifts for the holidays. (Hers feature a button clasp that allows you to hang them from your fridge handle. Genius.) While I don’t have the sewing machine nor the sewing skill to create lovely kitchen towels like hers, I love that others do and that I can find such adorable handmade options on Etsy from sellers like TaylorsType.
Longing for a craftacular Christmas? Tune in for the premiere of HGTV’s new show 15 Fresh Handmade Gift Ideas on Friday, November 26 at 7pm ET. And kick off your holiday shopping with our guide to 100 of our favorite handmade gifts from Etsy crafters highlighted in the show.
A gorgeous lap warmer for fall.
This brilliantly colored Paint Chip Quilt is sold on Etsy and crafted by textile artist Kim Eichler-Messmer who touches every step of the finished piece, from formulating the dye recipes to hand-sewing the binding.
This week’s Freebie Friday is designer approved. Bob Richter, whose New York kitchen was featured as part of our Weekly Tours series, tipped us off to one of his favorite frame makers, Chris LeBeau. Chris’s frames are constructed of 100% recyclable materials and an organic non-chemical solution is used in the aging process.
We’re giving away two of Chris’s beautiful copper frames. For a chance to win one, answer this week’s question before 12/11c, Monday, July 19.

Our friends at Etsy are back this week with another Get The Look: Home Decor Edition inspired by rooms from Designers Portfolio. This week they dive into traditional styling and have some great finds for your traditional living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Some of my favorites are:
We were so inspired by Etsy that we felt like continuing the fun by taking a look at items for a traditional home office and a traditional dining room.
If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you’ve probably figured out we love handmade items and particularly “heart” Etsy. Today felt like a good day to put out a little Etsy love and share some of my favorite finds this week.
I’m a huge list maker, so I desperately want these vinyl wall chalkboards from SpellitOutdesigns.
This whimsical and adorable print is from monkeypowered.
Cute porcelain pillows from stepanka make for a unique wall decoration.
Well, wouldn’t it keep you calm? Print from jennysbakeshop.
I’m not sure if there’s ever been a cuter vase. Check out prettyrandomobjects store for more.
Don’t forget to share your favorite Etsy or handmade finds in the comments!
One of my favorite downtime browsing destinations (shhh, don’t tell the bosses) is Etsy.com. If you’ve never been or if you’re a home artisan and don’t have your stuff on there, visit a.s.a.p. This site has anything and everything — art, jewelry, clothes, toys, decorative housewares and more.
I’m a handcrafted jewelry fanatic so I’m always searching for the latest finds and ideas, but when I want to branch out, I can’t resist their new “Pounce” search feature, which brings up some undiscovered gems — like this made-to-order vase shaped like your silhouette:
Better still, I just found out they have videos too. If you’re a crafter, check out their “How-To Tuesday” series, but they also have a new series — “There’s No Place Like Here” — that looks promising. The videos will explore the lives and style of select Etsy users to see how they’re infusing their creativity into their decorative spaces. The first one up spotlights the romantic whimsy of Dawn Younger-Smith’s (a.k.a. boudoirqueen) homey showroom.
While Dawn’s taste isn’t quite mine, it’s inspiring to see her creativity and style. I can’t wait to see what Etsy has coming up next.
