Mother’s Day is sneaking up on us, and as we all know moms love something handmade.
But if your crafting skills fall a little bit shy of magnificent, you can get a helping hand from Cozyblue. This family tree embroidery pattern would make a perfect gift for you to buy yourself and complete for mom. She’ll love your effort and want to keep it as an heirloom.
I am so ready for spring. With two blizzards and record-breaking snow in New York City this year, I am desperate for a sign of warmer days to come.
This sweetly designed bird feeder from StudioLiscious would be so perfect to hang from a tree dripping with buds to welcome the first birds of Spring. Do you hear that birds? I’m calling you back!
I love decorating with independent art. Sites like Etsy are my go-to place for unique prints. Since today is Valentine’s Day I thought I would share my favorite prints that will bring a little love home all year long.
Who can forget the now famous Domino cover featuring this modern For Like Ever poster above a traditional white fireplace?
Barb Blair, owner of Knack Studios in Greenville, SC, is known for her inspired “redeeming” of old furniture. I’m in love with her designs. And if I can’t be her, I at least want to own one of her pieces.
Barb names each of her works. This one is “berno,” my favorite because of the poppies and porcelain drawer pulls. If you don’t live near Greenville, don’t worry. Knack originals are for sale on Etsy, and Barb has the shipping down to a science.
What I call “National Love/Lust Day” is just one month away. And while plenty of people dread Feb. 14th, I’m not ashamed to say I LUV IT…now. As a child, I was completely traumatized by forced elementary school participation in Valentine’s Day. Decorating a shoebox with a slit at the top. Watching with feigned excitement as classmates slipped cards into the box. I would get a valentine from my crush saying, “I’m bananas over you!” Was he really, or did five other girls get the same card? The agony and the ecstasy. Fortunately, I’ve reclaimed my passion for Valentine’s Day through the power of crafts, and so can you. This year, get into the spirit with these fun, DIY projects sure to please loved ones of all ages.
Artificial flowers have never been so well-read.
These intricate, handmade bouquets are crafted by Melisa Simo from vintage folded paper. Melisa’s Etsy shop Whether Paperworks can customize a special Valentine’s Day gift, a wedding bouquet or a Mother’s Day pomander from love poems or your favorite piece of music. I even like the thought of having one of these lovely arrangements on a bedside table with colors picked to match my decor.
Design Happens fans love all things interior design. So, what could be more perfect for this week’s Freebie than a piece of art that matches our passion.
Florida artist Anne Harwell’s blog, Annechovie, is a must-read around the office. And her bright prints, available in the Annechovie Etsy shop, are popping up all over the web and in shelter magazines. (Even her orange chair print has made it big. Look for it over Meryl Streep’s shoulder in a scene from the movie It’s Complicated.) Anne wants a Design Happens reader to take home her Blue and White Ginger Jar print. Enter to win by answering this week’s question before 12/11c Monday, January 10.
This week’s question: What would you commission Anne Harwell to paint for your home? A beloved pet? A favorite piece of furniture?
