Halloween may officially be more than 3 months away but here at the HGTV offices (or in my cube, at least) the countdown to All Hallows Eve has begun. Our talented designers have been hard at work coming up with fresh ideas for all things Halloween — from party food and games to kids’ costumes, pumpkins and, of course, spooktacular indoor and outdoor decorations.

I know that Halloween die-hards like to get a head start on outdoor decorations, in particular, so I thought I’d share a sneak peek of a few of the projects we’re currently working on. No links yet, but be on the lookout for our new Halloween feature in early September:  Outdoor Halloween Decorating Ideas

Even as the rest of the country is gearing up for July 4th celebrations, we’re hard at work on original recipes, crafts and decorating ideas for the fall and winter holidays. To be honest, we’re pretty much always working on holiday content around here but early summer is when the pace really picks up.

I don’t want to give away too many surprises but thought you’d like a sample of the (many!) Halloween treats we have in store. From mommy-and-me costumes (seriously, how cute is the milk and cookie!) to budget-friendly costumes you can make out of felt and a hoodie (like a rampaging dinosaur) to professional-quality Halloween makeup tricks — we’ve got you covered.

Here’s a sneak peek of the costume-y goodness headed your way and be on the lookout for our new Halloween feature in early September! HGTV Halloween Costume Sneak Peek

Halloween is just two weeks away, my friends. Is your home ready for trick-or-treaters and spooky festivities? If not, I have four quick and easy holiday crafts you can make in a snap.

Easy Halloween Decorating and Craft IdeasHow to Make Trash Bag Spider Webs

The best part about this Halloween craft is that it only requires three — count ‘em — THREE materials, and you definitely have them in your home. All you need are black plastic trash bags, scissors and clear plastic tape to create these dramatic spider webs.

Easy Halloween Decorating and Craft IdeasHow to Make a Halloween Chevron Wreath

Add a chic touch to your front door with an easy-to-make fabric-covered wreath. We went with classic orange-and-white and black-and-white chevron patterns, but you can choose any fabric you like to cover your wreath form. For seasonal appeal, use baker’s twine and cut-out bats to add a spooky embellishment.

October 31st is right around the corner! It is such a fun holiday to celebrate with decorating, dressing up and hosting parties. Here are a few festive, creative ideas to get you in the Halloween spirit.

1. Host a Halloween Cupcake Decorating Party

Gather the kids, cupcakes and toppings and have a ball! This easy, inexpensive party theme is sure to please kids and adults. The TomKat Studio printable party collection I designed for this theme adds the finishing touches to tie it all together.

2. BOO Your Neighbors

Are you familiar with “BOOing”? If not, you should be! It is such a fun tradition. Secretly leave Halloween goodies on your neighbor’s front porch, along with this free printable sign and instructions. The idea is that they will then BOO another neighbor and the whole neighborhood will get in the Halloween spirit. We were BOOed this weekend, and we’re baking tonight to keep it going. 3. Make a Spooky Halloween Banner

I hosted a girl’s night in last week, and we all made this fun Spooky Halloween banner. Download Free Printable Spooky Banner Letters

I’ve seriously been jonesing for fall and its most-spectacular holiday, Halloween. Not because of this brutally hot summer weather. I’ve had Halloween pumpkin carving on the brain since May when I planted jack-o’-lantern pumpkins in my summer vegetable garden. I’m itching to cut the perfect orange spheres off their stalks and fill my house with carved pumpkin designs until my little Halloween heart is content. Luckily, I found this fabulous pumpkin project that will work perfectly as I transition my decor from a late summer to full-on fall feel.

Halloween Decorating Ideas

This pumpkin silhouette project is so easy — it only has four steps! You simply print out a picture of a silhouette (this particular silhouette came from Susie Harrington of Petite Prints), trace the outline onto the flattest side of your pumpkin, paint inside the lines and glue trim around it. Simple! The pumpkin used in the project was already white, but I can easily spray paint my orange ones. (Spray-painting pumpkins couldn’t be easier. I’ve done it for countless Halloween parties in the past. Guests are totally impressed!)

You can find the complete materials list, step-by-step photos and tips on HGTV.com. Plus, you’ll find lots of other Halloween decorating ideas and pumpkin carving templates to give you a headstart on fall. Admit it. You can’t wait for Halloween either.

When you’ve finished your silhouette pumpkin, take a picture and share a link with us on the blog.

Tell us all about it in the comments below.

Our panel of judges were spooked silly by this ghoulish dinner party.

These bonafide buddies took home a $25 gift card to Grandin Road, as well as Grandin’s Halloween hostess with the mostess, Hagatha the Halloween Witch.

You’ve still got time to enter for one last Halloween Photo Contest giveaway. Submit pics of your costumed kiddies and fur babies, pumpkins and decor before the sand runs out on All Hallows Eve.
