For the final of four Halloween-themed giveaways from Grandin Road, we wanted to know your best DIY Halloween decorating tip or find out what monster is the scariest and why. Based on your comments, I think the next horror movie should be a showdown between a horde of zombies and Freddy Krueger.

Design Happens fans also shared many helpful and fun decorating tips. I especially liked this one from HeatherM, as she offers a practical use for oscillating and box fans outside of summer: “Fans blowing cobwebs and black drapery fabric is pretty scary…when you can’t see around the corner and something… happens… out of the corner of your eye!”

Perhaps this week’s winner, Jill B., will go with a monsters of a Greek mythology Halloween decorating theme…cyclops, hydra and gorgons like Medusa.

All of our recent Freebie Fridays giveaways were chosen to get you ready for October 31st, whether you’re hosting a huge Halloween party or welcoming a handful of timid trick-or-treaters. The fourth and final installment of our awesome Grandin Road Halloween decoration giveaway spectacular hails from ancient Greece.

Ever since the 1981 Clash of the Titans, I’ve held a particular fear of Medusa. So will visitors to your haunted lair when the motion sensor is activated, the snakes begin to writhe and hiss and Medusa’s beckons them to look deep into her eyes.

“My happiest memories of Halloween are all decorating with my mom. Halloween became my domain when I got older, around 11, I think. Mom and I would paint the front window with some spooky scene, and I would rake leaves all day long to stuff my dad’s clothes for my props. (I can’t help but think that part of that was maybe an excuse to get me to rake the lawn.) After hanging cobwebs EVERYWHERE and getting all of our decorations in just the right place, I would place the fog machine in such a place as to insight optimum fear in our trick-or-treaters. With my dad’s help of course. Unfortunately, my dad was a little too good at his job in all of the festivities, and he sent many a kid screaming bloody murder from our door step.”

Standing a dramatic 63 inches tall and with pronounced cheekbones like those, who wouldn’t want to bring this skeletal beauty home? Plus, she’s dressed to kill, decked out in her wedding day finest: “a midnight black and blood-red gown topped with a matching veil.”

Last week Shelley shared a Halloween decorating story that made me laugh out loud. One year her family’s style was “scary realism”. Freebie Fridays: September 30th Winner

For our September 30th giveaway, we wanted you to tell us about your Halloween decorating style. While your responses ranged from Rob Zombie horror (Have you seen his Woolite commercial?) to “pumpkin chic” , the majority of Design Happens fans go for kooky and kid-friendly. (Still, quite a few of you are traditionalists, committed to Dracula, Frankenstein and other classic horror spooks.)

I learned from an early age about the decorative power of a beautiful table lamp. Growing up in Atlanta, I visited many a home with a gorgeously appointed sitting room or parlor that exuded that quintessential Southern charm. My friend’s moms were lovely hostesses who always produced a glass filled with sweet tea or ice-cold Coca-Cola within minutes of a guest’s arrival. Conversation flowed effortlessly in these intimate spaces beautifully lit by a perfect set of table lamps. (I can practically feel my Southern accent coming back just remembering those times.) Listen y’all, we all know good lighting can make or break a room. And that a table lamp is one of the easiest ways to update the look of a space.
