The eye floor lamp is amazing and creepy all at the same time. Though the light wasn’t designed for Halloween decor, it’s perfect for this time of year.

Alright. If you missed the episode of Mid-Century Artist: Secrets From a Stylist, here’s what we got. She loves anything bold and unexpected. He loves anything straight and clean. She likes feminine and soft and white. He’s hip to functional and symmetrical. Ultimately, this couple was not too far apart…

…but their home was none of this. And i was about to make a bit design mistake. Stay tuned.
Perhaps there is nothing more delightful in the design world than this word: free.

Ok, I was being a little bit tricky. The brightly-colored diminutive lamps from furnishing giant Ikea aren’t free. But they’re solar powered, so they’re absolutely free to use. It may be a tiny step in conserving energry, but this is an earthy-friendly product I can happily get behind.
Awesome guess, Heather, you’re spot on. This week’s “What the…?” is a streamlined-modern desk lamp. This item would make a sweet addition to any contemporary office design. (I love the two slits in the visor, so a hint of light escapes from the top.)

Now that you know brass it back, I guarantee you’ll start seeing it everywhere. Antique stores, craigslist and 1stdibs are all great places to score some on-trend brass accessories for your home or office.
And if you happen to find a mysterious item you think would make a great “What the…?”, be sure to email it to us at designhappens@hgtv.com.
Episode three was a total blast (watch it here). Excitement just oozed out of Micah and Evelyn. I promise never to say ‘oozed out of them’ again. Gross. But it did. They were desperate for help and all they wanted was fun, color and some function. They already had a TV room (that you didn’t see.) They also wanted a place to play with their friends—they love themselves some board games. They also needed a dining room. The loft was pretty daunting actually; it was massive and dark and totally vacuous. Frankly, it was very cold, and these people are not.
I know. Empty. Dead. Boring.
Intricate laser-cut designs turn lampshades into a work of graphic art.

The European designers-turned-manufacturers at stellavie make these customizable shades from heavy-gauge paper featuring delicate patterns that range from traditional to modern. The result is a “unique light experience.”
You would agree, yes?
Does it really matter? Chicken then egg. Egg then chicken. What’s clear is that when one thinks chicken decor, what first comes to mind is country kitsch. French Country…a close second. In this week’s Style Jolt, we’ll look at fun and fabulous ways to the bring backyard chicken craze indoors without having to manage a flock. So in honor of Gonzo’s great love, Camilla, and the eight fine egg-laying ladies in my backyard…

Not everyone can get a Candice Olson makeover. But you can bring home a Candice-designed light fixture. This beauty, introduced in February at Las Vegas World Market, hits stores in August.
