Last month, I experienced a design dream come true — presenting my home decor collection at Maison et Objet, one of the world’s largest home design trade shows. My ten days in Paris were spent transporting and decorating the AphroChic booth, as well as meeting with potential buyers from all over the world. As you can see, color took center stage in our showroom. The pillows and linens certainly popped against the white walls.
When possible, I took breaks from selling to explore other booths at Maison et Objet, on the look out for the latest design trends. Here’s what I found: Design is moving to a happier place where color is used to put us in a good mood. Just like we’re seeing in fall and spring fashion trends, color is everywhere! I came across home accessories, furniture and textiles representing every hue of the rainbow.
Pieces like these Jonathan Adler vases caught my eye. Deep yellow, bright turquoise and Jonathan’s signature use of gold delivers an uplifting and glamorous feel.
I marveled at the mix of color and pattern in the Szalay booth. Their new collection of textiles and upholstered pieces includes ottomans and patchwork cushions. Love those primary shades.
I spent the final day of Maison & Objet exploring the latest in home accessories. From mirrors, to lighting to cuckoo clocks, accessories at the show were modern and refined, with a bit of quirkiness to keep things interesting. Here are some of the most beautiful pieces I spotted while in Paris.
The Ethnic Chic section of Maison & Objet was by far my favorite, spotlighting luxurious materials, contemporary design and traditional global crafting techniques.
Designs From Africa, Asia and India
As I stepped through the doors at Maison & Objet I was almost overwhelmed by the endless halls of incredible delights that spread out before me. It’s such an inspiring place for those of us who love design—new trends and beautiful ideas are around every corner.
I was particularly struck by the changes in tabletop, which is moving from casual fare to pieces that make each day amazing.

I’m spending the week in Paris for the Maison & Objet trade show, and I’ve fallen in love with the beauty of Parisian design.
In a city with so much tradition and history, artisans and designers know just how to blend modern and traditional design seamlessly. Paris designer, Cordelia de Castellane’s home does just that.
More Parisian Style
I arrived in Paris early Thursday morning to attend the Maison & Objet trade show, an international exhibit of home decor featuring the world’s most talented designers.
It’s been an exciting four days filled with the latest in home textiles, global design, interior decoration and accessories. Today, I had to tell you about the amazing work of the one of the designers being recognized this year for his outstanding talent.
