Even though it resembles a kitchen strainer, 4Grammy was the first to guess correctly. The fly chair by Zanotta is a versatile furniture piece because of its clear carbon frame and quota fabric. I picture it sitting in an outdoor space or an urban loft because of its futuristic look. What room in your home would you place the chair in?

Time to break out the matzoh — sundown marks the beginning of Passover. Are you hosting a Seder? I’ve seen some pretty table setting ideas on Pinterest, but one thing that really caught my eye was this mod, minimalist Seder plate on Etsy.

You’d never know it, but this was made with a recycled oak wine barrel head. The elegant little ceramic bowls sit in grooves atop it for the six traditional, symbolic foods to retell the Passover story. Even if you don’t celebrate Passover, this would be a beautiful serving dish. But if you do, what a lovely centerpiece this would be. I may even be more excited about this plate than brisket and flourless chocolate cake. (Okay, not really, but it’s close.)

I wish I had seen this amazing Adelaide, Australia bungalow on Dwell‘s site earlier this week, say, Thursday, which was Australia Day. But alas. (I only knew Thursday was Australia Day because my calendar said so, and then the Australian meat pie stand near my office was slammed. Also, Dwell‘s newsletter didn’t come out until Friday and some coworkers tipped me off to this, so there’s no way I could have put it together in time. Anyway, next year I’ll be more prepared, Australia!) Even though it’s not on the thematically-appropriate Aussie holiday, you have to admit that this half-Victorian, half-modern home is still pretty impressive.

The article that features this abode is called “Party In the Back”, which I appreciate on the “haha, that’s a mullet joke” level, but it really does describe the place well. While it still maintains a traditional facade in the front, the rear is all light and windows, with a long, gorgeous backyard pool to boot. As far as I’m concerned, this lovely design is just one more good thing to come out of Australia. (See also: Hugh Jackman.)

I’ve loved Austin ever since I attended SXSW in 2008. Maybe it was the opportunity to chill with a bunch of my far-away friends, or maybe it was the addictive breakfast tacos, but I’m still smitten with the city. The fact that there’s a definite modern home aesthetic there is just icing on the cake for me. (Or salt on the margarita rim at Guero’s, if you will.) So, seeing photographer Ryann Ford’s Austin digs on Houzz made me kinda jealous.

The space has so much natural sunlight, which is the perfect complement to Ford’s desert-mod-vintage style. And the details are darling! Tilting the cafe sign in the living room vertically, painting the office wall with chalkboard paint — it all works for me. I’ll be heading to SXSW again this year, and if you happen to spot me with a dreamy, far-away look on my face, I’m daydreaming about settling down in Austin in a place just like this.

I don’t know why, but our microwave clock is always wrong. I’ve started to theorize that my boyfriend accidentally hits the “clock” button when he means to hit the “timer” button and then just never resets it, but regardless, I think it’s high time (har) we invested in a wall clock. Maybe this Party Time! Excellent! Clock from ModCloth is in order.

It’s the ideal intersection of clean/modern and funky/fun. I think this would be perfect in our kitchen, or as a vibrant accent in a kid’s room. The cheerful colors and energetic design already make it easy to love — but the Wayne’s World references in the name and description of the clock on the ModCloth site make it a true winner in my eyes.

I’m just a girl who cain’t say no to bold patterns and bright colors, but this West Elm chair by Brooklyn-based designer Paul Loebach is simplicity at its best.

The mod seat suits my taste perfectly, and the country legs are an unexpected twist. Even better, right now these chairs are on sale. Which makes it even more tempting for me to buy one or two in support of my designer “neighbor.” (Brooklyn, represent!)

Now that the main living areas of our home are nearly complete, it’s time to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! In general, I wait to purchase the bulk of my home accessories until I’ve lived in a space for a few months. After all, how will I know where to settle in to read my favorite book, or how I prefer to stash my keys?

Indeed, the power of home accessories are not to be underestimated, and I’ve rounded up some goodies below that I’ve had my eyes on for longer than I care to admit. Luckily, I’ve acquired a few and am well on my way to a fully accessorized home!:

My dreamy accessories wish list.

My style hasn’t changed a bit since the beginning of our renovation, and I’m still craving functional pieces that marry industrial, vintage and modern Scandinavian touches. In other words, metal, wood and black/white textiles are always high on my wish list:

joya rocker

A modernist nursery is no longer an impossible look to achieve. Great new furniture companies are popping up all the time.

This nursery rocking chair by Canadian company Monte has a chunky wood base which I find really evocative of children’s design but a refined, clean-lined seat. I think it would work just as well in any room as in a baby’s room.

Episode three was a total blast (watch it here). Excitement just oozed out of Micah and Evelyn. I promise never to say ‘oozed out of them’ again. Gross. But it did. They were desperate for help and all they wanted was fun, color and some function. They already had a TV room (that you didn’t see.) They also wanted a place to play with their friends—they love themselves some board games. They also needed a dining room. The loft was pretty daunting actually; it was massive and dark and totally vacuous. Frankly, it was very cold, and these people are not.

Secrets From a Stylist: Episode 3 Loft, BeforeI know. Empty. Dead. Boring.

But It Gets Better
