Saturday marked the start of the world’s largest fair spanning 16 days in Munich, Germany. Oktoberfest, a festival celebrating beer [primarily] and traditional food, draws people from all over the world. If you can’t make it to Europe for the festivities, then find a local biergarten and try out some authentic German brews. Prost!

I don’t think this post even needs an introduction, but some of my favorite gals have something to say on the topic:

“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.” — Mae West

“Big girls need big diamonds.” — Elizabeth Taylor

“It’s hard to be a diamond in a rhinestone world.” — Dolly Parton

I know we’re not looking at true diamonds here, but these modern diamond graphics are still just as chic.

I’ve never been a girly-girl, but I recently bought some white sheets to go with my all-white seersucker duvet and they have some sweet hot pink accents. It’s just the perfect amount of pink to add some femininity to the space without being like pink overload. But, I’ll admit, I’m on a pink kick. I swiped my card to SEVEN throw pillows the other night and three were pink. Eeep! What’s your take on this luscious hue? Use it in abundance, or steer clear completely?

There’s nothing quite like farmer’s market blueberries. I get a carton every Saturday and probably eat half the container before I make my first lap around the vendors. The hue is just as delectable as the taste, too. I know it’s still summer, but we can start thinking about fall a little bit. This is the perfect intro-to-fall color. It can be nice and rich, like the dress on the second row, or it can be mixed with lighter colors for a cooler feel, like the summery plaid dress on the bottom row. What’s your favorite way to incorporate this purple hue into your fashion or decor?

I swore off lime green for more than a decade after an unfortunate bedroom design mishap from my youth. (Lots of ‘flower power’.) I’m starting to slowly integrate the fruity and luscious hue back into my life in small doses. Lime is such a strong color, so I prefer when it’s used alongside neutrals to tone it down a bit. What’s your take on lime? Love it, or leave it in the produce aisle?

I’ll admit, I was engulfed by news of the #RoyalBaby. It was enough to keep me refreshing my social feeds every few minutes. Was it going to be a prince or princess? What would they name her/him? What would Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, be wearing for the family’s first “official” photo? (Turns out, she chose a simple polka-dotted dress much like the one Princess Diana wore when she stepped out with Prince William for the first time.)

To celebrate the birth of Prince George Alexander Louis, I’ve picked out some royal and/or British-inspired fare he’d love.

To me, there’s nothing like a nice, cloudy day in the summer. I love having an excuse to stay inside and be a little lazy, or just hide away from the sun for a few hours on a scorching day. Sometimes you just need some cloud cover to bring down the temperature. And there’s nothing like a good afternoon rain shower to force a nap.

If you happen to have today off, then step outside and soak up the fresh air. Happy Monday!

Clearly, great minds think alike here at Design Happens! Last week, Allie showed us five crafty and delectable ways to use watermelon, and this week, I’m in a sea of watermelon myself. Fourth of July weekend (although rainy over here) was a beautiful summer salute. For many summer is just starting, so let’s keep the seasonal fruits, hues and landscapes coming.

Summer is officially here (as of Friday) and bees are buzzing around like crazy. When brainstorming this week’s post, I thought what better way to ring in the season than with a post dedicated to these busy pollinators? Our very own Kelley Walters is actually a beekeeper and looks adorable in her hat and vintage veil passed down from one of her bee mentors. Do we have any other beekeepers out there?

I could seriously use one of these frozen treats right about now. For the past four days I’ve been camping on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tenn. for the 12th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. If you’ve ever been to Tennessee in the summer, then you know it’s hot, hot, HOT … especially when air-conditioning is absent. What’s your favorite summer treat? To me, there’s nothing more refreshing on a scorching day than a fruity, chill-inducing popsicle.

I don’t know if you remember, but way back in January I went to the Atlanta Gift and Home Furnishings Market to spot design trends and meet with industry insiders. I mentioned the flamingo trend popping up (and not just in coastal-inspired interiors). Honestly, I forgot about this vibrant bird until just recently when warm weather and thoughts of the beach started infecting my mind. Now, I can’t help but think how cool one of these hot-pink creatures would look on a plain white canvas on my gray walls (inspiration, top-left). What do you think? Leave flamingos at the beach, or try them out indoors?

Warning: This might be the largest Mood Board Monday collage yet, but I just couldn’t stop. Once I started on my quest for red, white and blue images, it became more difficult to narrow down my picks … so I didn’t. I particularly love the vintage image on the top right. The clean, simple lines and mod color-blocking is perfect for summer 2013, even decades later.

I hope you’re enjoying your long holiday weekend, friends.

I’ve found myself lost in one too many summer daydreams lately. As soon as warm weather arrives, I start yearning for the sand and water. Unfortunately, I wait and take my beach vacays once the dog days of summer have subsided a bit. When are you packing up and heading to the coast? Try not to make me too jealous.

Years ago, pattern mixing was just downright messy. Now, it signals smart fashion and design know-how (if you do it right, of course). Sure, sometimes it looks like someone picked up every patterned pillow at West Elm, threw it on the sofa and bam — an eclectic mix of patterns that magically work. But trust me, things can go wrong very quickly. (Think 90s patchwork-style shirts on a large scale. Nobody wants that.) Check out this stunning pattern mixing done right, and follow our tips to bring the look into your own home.

I hate spoiling TV shows for people, so I won’t say anything about last night’s season 6 premiere of Mad Men other than, “OMG!” Did you watch? Did you love it? Like many of you, I partially watch because I’m head-over-heels for the 60′s fashion and mid-century designs. Unfortunately, it’s becoming more difficult to find those gorgeous solid wood highboys and Danish-modern china cabinets for a steal. People are catching on! Where are you finding your best mid-century pieces?

There has always been something comforting to me about clowns. I know seeing an adult in outlandish costumes, colored wigs and dramatic makeup may evoke fear in most, but I find them playful and nostalgic. Despite their unfortunate reputation, clowns will always have a fan in me.

Spring is here! Or at least we’ve been told it’s here, but we’re still waiting for the sunshine and warm weather to fully emerge. All I can think about is wearing pastel hues and drinking cold cocktails on a restaurant patio. In anticipation, here’s one of my favorite colors [that only looks good on me when I've been a little sun-kissed]. What’s your favorite springtime hue?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that a new pope, Pope Francis, was elected on March 13. The biggest news, though, is that he’s the first non-European pope in history. (Jorge Mario Bergoglio is from Buenos Aires, Argentina.) With Italy being all over the news, I figured I’d take this opportunity to give you a virtual vacay to Roma this Monday morning. Sit back and enjoy, friends.

Did you hear the news? Carrot orange is our chosen hue for March’s Color of the Month. It’s bold, vibrant and definitely represents the upcoming season to a T. I mean, it was practically a unanimous vote when meeting newcomer Kelly Smith-Trimble pitched the color with a picture of fresh-out-of-the-garden carrots and other spring-inspired favorites. We couldn’t resist!
