St. Patrick’s day is such a fun holiday, it’s a little bit cheeky and heavy on the eating and celebrating. But there is a darker side to St. Patty: as a child I lived in fear of getting pinched. Yes, I was the kid who worked up a lather that somehow, in spite of my mounting anxiety, I would forget to wear green on March 17th, inviting perfect strangers to pinch me to their hearts content.

Maybe I was a weird kid. Whether that’s the case or not, I can tell you one thing: I’ll be wearing my green this St. Patricks Day. And here is an easy and adorable way for you to get your green on as well: These simple felt shamrocks take just minutes to make, cost only pennies, and can adorn everything from hair clips to pins and more. Frankly, once you start making them, you might find it hard to stop.

Weekday Crafternoon: Learn how to make these easy felt shamrocks for St. Patricks Day!

How will you wear your green this St. Patrick’s Day? Or will you hole up in your house, hiding from those rogue pinchers?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Today, skip the green beer and serve creamy, satisfying Irish coffee instead. (Bonus: It pairs better with green cupcakes.)

Irish Coffee For St. Patrick's Day

Irish Coffee. Yum!

The most popular version of the drink — black coffee, Irish whiskey, brown sugar and lightly-whipped cream — first appeared at a west Ireland airport, when a chef served a group of passengers the warm concoction on a cold, dreary winter night. But it’s been an American fixture since 1952, when San Francisco’s Buena Vista Cafe added it to the menu. To date, the restaurant says it’s served more than 30 million Irish coffees. That’s a lot of whiskey!

If you’ve never tried this Irish-American classic, stir one up tonight. Get the full recipe here >>

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya, design lovers! It’s St. Patrick’s Day, so by all accounts, I should be posting about shamrocks, or three-leaf clover. (Fun fact: St. Patrick used the shamrock in his teachings to illustrate the Christian concept of the Trinity.) However, I quite like this Four-Leaf Clover Print by Banquet Atelier & Workshop.

There’s something so jaunty about this print, and the slightly imperfect and off-kilter shape of the clover gives it a homemade feel. Plus, because it’s a symbol of good luck, you can keep it out all year round, not just on St. Patrick’s Day. Just don’t call it “the luck of the Irish.” (I hear that some people think that’s meant to be an ironic turn of phrase.)

Sure, copper is our official color of the month, but vibrant green is the unofficial color of every March thanks to spring and, oh yeah, a little holiday full of green beer and four-leaf clovers. But this year, it’s also having a moment on it’s own, from spring fashion runway pieces (green shoes!) to home accent pieces to bedding to House Beautiful‘s March cover story. In honor of this fabulous hue (and St. Patrick’s Day), here are 5 rooms that celebrate vibrant green with style.

Red and green? It can work post-December. Really. Designer Brian Patrick Flynn’s secret: Add dark brown. Depending on which color is selected as dominant, this combination can take on either a masculine or feminine vibe.

Bold, saturated greens can lighten up the darkest of spaces, like this no-window walk-in closet. Vintage white accents juxtapose the super-preppy green-and-brown color scheme.

The lush green shade on the walls of this bedroom in HGTV Dream Home 2009 is at once bold and relaxing. Designer Linda Woodrum used the same hue for walls and ceiling to create extra height in this luxurious space. Feeling, ahem, green with envy yet?

What do you think: Is there a bright green room in your future?

Green is my all-time favorite color, so I’m swimming in delight when St. Patrick’s Day rolls around. But I never really thought of it as an all-out decorating holiday until Kim Stoegbauer created some festive projects I couldn’t pass up. I personally love this easy-to-create burlap wreath, because once St. Patrick’s Day is (sadly) over, you can simply remove the shamrock and green-and-white ribbon and embellish it for the next upcoming holiday or just decorate it for spring. It’s that easy.

Imagine this little beauty on your front door. I’m pretty sure you’ll be the only one on the block with a St. Patty’s Day wreath that looks this good!

All you need for this project is a 14-inch foam wreath, 1-1/2 yards of burlap fabric, scissors, a sparkly shamrock embellishment and a ribbon for hanging.

After cutting the burlap into strips, start tying the fabric into a knot around the foam wreath. Continue tying the strips, making sure to overlap the the previous strip with the next strip.

After covering the wreath with fabric, add the embellishments. This shiny shamrock is the perfect addition for St. Patrick’s Day, as well as the green-and-white, polka-dot hanging ribbon. Get the Full Step-by-Step Instructions Here >>
