The Super Bowl is in a couple of days, and whether you love or hate the sport, it’s the perfect excuse to throw a party. I’m sure you’ve spent all your time picking out the food and drinks, and now you’re stuck with a messy house. If you don’t have time to thoroughly clean your home for your guests, just worry about making it clean enough. I know, I know I’m not supposed to encourage that, but sometimes you’ve got to fake it ’til ya make it, people.

Here are a few quick cleaning tips:

  • Focus only on areas your guests will see (the foyer, media room, guest bathroom, etc.).
  • Give the room a decluttered look by placing magazines, cords and other items in stylish trays and storage bins.
  • Wipe down all surfaces.
  • Carry a laundry basket to pick up displaced items while doing a quick sweep in each room.

If you’re like me, you’re very “whatever” about the Super Bowl game itself. I tune in for the half-time show (go Beyonce!) and, of course, the commercials. I will admit that I enjoy attending parties where the majority is rooting for one team — I then like to cheer on the opposite team (very loudly). Irritating friends who take the game so seriously keeps me alert while the game is on. Back to those commercials…

Kelly Lanza of Studio DIY has come up with a fun way to let everyone in the room know your take on all those ads – commercial rating signs! Click on over to her site for the free printables. Pretty great idea, right?

Super Bowl Game

Enjoy your Super Bowl weekend, everybody!

Football reminds me of lazy Sundays with my dad, so even though I only know enough about football for people not to groan, I’m always excited for the Super Bowl.

For those of you who have been out of the loop this season, allow me to catch you up to speed: this Sunday’s matchup of the Baltimore Ravens versus the San Francisco 49ers is interesting because it pits head coaches Jim and John Harbaugh against each other. Yes, you read right – Jim and John are brothers!

The Super Bowl is the ultimate football fan holiday, and no holiday is complete without a party full of good friends, delicious food and drinks, of course. If you’re looking for ideas for a fun Super Bowl party, look no further – we have everything you need to keep the cheer going until the final touchdown.

The Colors

Nothing says fanfare like decking out your home in team colors. Conveniently, brothers serving as head coaches aren’t the only two things tying these teams together. The Ravens and the 49ers also share glitzy gold (our January Color of the Month) as one of their team colors, but are divided between violet for the Ravens and scarlet for the 49ers. What’s great about these color combos is that they look good all year, so feel free to make your Super Bowl decor a little more permanent.

The Super Bowl is this Sunday, I’m pretty sure! And it will be the Giants vs. Patriots! At least that’s what the Google tells me! Honestly, I’m not a big sports fan, so I haven’t followed football since I stopped living with my parents (and by parents, I mean my dad). That said, I love watching the Super Bowl with a big group of people and eating delicious food — chili, nachos, chicken wings — that I will almost certainly regret later. I’d love to have these cute little vessels on hand to serve up some game day goodies.

There’s a little something here for almost any kind of snack you can think of! Pistachios are a perfect fit for the Smiley Bowl (or the Double Dish, as I’ve previously featured here), pretzels would be darling in the Unsealed Glass Bowl and the Soup and Sandwich Ceramic Duo is excellent for…well, just what it says. (You could swap in chili for the soup, or if you’re a big chip and dip person, put dip in the bowl and chips on the side. The possibilities are endless!) I also appreciate how ergonomic most of these dishes are, so you’re guaranteed to have at least one free hand to pump in the air when your team scores…or gesture at the TV wildly when the ref makes a bad call.

Who will you be rooting for this Sunday, and more importantly, what will you be eating?

Tonight the Saints head to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history, where they face the Colts, who took home the coveted rings not too long ago and are ready to do it again. Both teams have great stories, incredible quarterbacks (the spirited Drew Brees and the unflappable Peyton Manning) and of course, both wear distinctive team colors every week.

In honor of these two incredible teams, check out these stunning rooms that feature the teams’ palettes (without a piece of sports memorabilia in sight).
