BRIANA: It’s fall and Thanksgiving is fast approaching, which can only mean one thing to many outfitting their home for the holiday: IT’S DECORATIVE GOURD SEASON, [EXPLETIVE]! (I shant include a direct link here due to the column’s use of strong language, but if you don’t get this reference, I suggest you coughcough search for it on McSweeney’s coughcough).

pumpkins and an owl

So…yeah. As high-brow as I might try to be, there’s just something about buying a bunch of pumpkins and gourds that feels so…seasonal. See, there’s even a bird in my house! All my (alleged) principles evaporate when fall happens. I still skip the shellac and cornucopias, though.

As much as I can’t stop thinking about that gorgeous Thanksgiving spread in nine days, it’s true that no table is complete without stunning place settings. So make your table extra memorable this year with personalized, hand-painted plates and an antique-inspired framed message board ideal for greeting holiday guests as soon as they walk in the door. (A mouth-watering feast of turkey, stuffing and other traditional favorites will still help though.)

Add a custom look to your holiday table this Thanksgiving by stenciling a special holiday phrase or design on simple, white dinner plates. Marian Parsons of Mustard Seed Interiors used gold ceramic paint to give an elegant look to her seasonal tablescape. I love how well the gold pairs with her antique cutlery and off-white place mats. You can also monogram plates for personalized hostess gifts, too. Get full instructions here >>

Guests will be dying to know where you got your gorgeous, antique frame. Your secret? Gold leaf and dark walnut wood stain. But you don’t have to say a word. Get full instructions here >>

Pumpkin cheesecake, cornbread stuffing, mounds of mashed potatoes and an extra-large turkey. Since the start of November, I haven’t been able to stop daydreaming about Thanksgiving dinner. My mom’s never done an elaborate Turkey Day table. We’ve always been more focused on the spread. This year, she’s decided to go all out with place cards, fancy glassware and candles. I’ve found the perfect inspiration for her…and your family too. From delightfully simple to astonishingly elegant, these designer table settings will leave you drooling.

It’s here, it’s here! Well, almost. For me, Thanksgiving means eating my mom’s cooking until I can’t move, wrestling for control of the TV remote with my dad (holiday shows verses football games) and, of course, decorating the house with warm, nature-inspired autumnal decor. Thanksgiving is only 21 days away, which means you have a mere three weeks to fill your home with that cozy, fall feeling before family and friends arrive. Here are some of our favorite Thanksgiving decor ideas sure to delight you and your guests.
