Velvet Hammerschmidt DesignVelvet Hammerschmidt Design always delivers style and class to their many projects that range from high-end residences to boutique hotels and office spaces. This contemporary loft in Santa Monica is a prime example of what Velvet Hammerschmidt does best — design a high-style living space that improves the client’s lifestyle and embraces their personality — all with a modern California flair. In this case, the client was Velvet herself, and she wanted a place that simplified her and her husband’s busy lives and allowed them to embrace the beautiful scenery and terrain surrounding their SoCal home.

Velvet accomplished this by designing every last inch of this “smart home” from the ground up. The home was made “smart” by creating lighting, fans, window treatments, HVAC, digital music and AV that are all controlled entirely via remote and integrated keypads. Both the design and technology in this loft are streamlined. Bottom up shades and custom floor valances were designed to control urban views, provide privacy, and yet still allow for access to spectacular vistas and plenty of California sun. And then there is the rooftop deck, complete with outdoor kitchen, fire pit and water feature. Read on to learn more about how Velvet created a dream space that embraces technology, art and nature with a tour that starts on the roof

Designing for children can be a potential nightmare for an interior designer. How do you tap into the psyche of a toddler, and create a room that will ignite their imaginations, as well as grow with their ever-evolving tastes and interests? New York designer Jennifer Coleman of JKC Designs accomplished exactly that in this magical loft space for an outgoing Tribeca four-year-old.

The room is put together but not themed. It’s age-appropriate and transitional. Enjoy Jennifer Coleman’s whimsical work on the fairy-tale loft, along with the rest of this hip family’s fun, NYC space.

Joseph Pubillones creates residential, commercial and even yacht interiors. He studied architecture in the United States and in Europe and, after living in Paris, Rome and Miami, his cosmopolitan flair shows in his designs. The oceanfront condominium in this week’s tour needed a complete overhaul, and he guided it from a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit to a more owner-friendly 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a den.

JP_FoyerJoseph says: The foyer greets you with a colorful painting, set against the stark white walls. A vintage Baker console in black lacquer serves as a catchall for keys, bags, etc.
