Colorado or Croatia?

There have been some very interesting comments so far, please keep them coming. Your guesses for the location of the next home have been incredibly imaginative, and have literally ranged far and wide. And they’ve also ranged not very far at all. But I can go ahead and rule out a couple of places for you.

There are quite a few comments speculating on back-to-back homes in Colorado. Locations called out include Denver, Boulder, Frisco, Estes Park and more. One poster even suggested “a different perspective might be the house across the street” from the 2007 Winter Park home.

Even though the state features enough natural beauty and spectacular locations for dozens of HGTV Dream Homes, the 2008 home is definitely not going to be in Colorado. Plus, I think someone’s already living in that house across the street.

And in a land far, far away from Colorado, one comment suggested the next HGTV Dream Home should be a “nice villa built in Croatia.” Interesting suggestion, we’ll keep it in mind, but not this time.

Thanks again for all the comments, we look forward to seeing more in the weeks to come. And don’t forget, the 2007 HGTV Dream Home Giveaway ends this Friday, Feb. 16, and you can enter once a day for a chance to win until then.

  1. There seems to be many beautiful skylines in the State of Arizona The magnificent architecture that HGTV Designers create coupled with the breath taking Red Mountains,I think, would create an irrestable urge to enter for many!

This particular location would combine a usually "warm" climate with a mountainous vacation home! Traveling to this location during any season of the year would be never be a problem.

  3. I think the great Northwest would be great; (I live in the Lost Coast of Ca.)however, I am wondering if a view of the great Grand Canyon is where the new house is going.

  6. I would love the perfect view in my neck of the woods – - near Tacoma, Washington, looking at the water. However, HGTV homes (and most of the winners) don’t seem to have much of a Northwest connection, so I’m not too hopeful.

  7. We have been transplanted in Georgia for at least 30 years now. We might suggest North Georgia for beautiful views, lots of space, waterfalls, lakes, plenty of wildlife, and little tiny towns with great coffee! We still live on the edge of Atlanta, but many of our friends are heading just a little North for retirement and relocation!!

  8. I think and hope, that your next house, will be in the Great Beautiful Northwest, Washington State! There are more than sceneries here, it is an oasis of beauty, in green. Coupled with magnificent sunsets that kiss the mountains, and make them blush! Or maybe, the white carpets of winter time, that sparkle brighter than a summer day! All this with majestic mountain views, woodland wildlife birds and animals. Not to mention, our great Salmon runs! Yep, I think the next location should be Washington! And if not, it should be sometime soon!

  9. I think there are a lot of great ideas. To me it should have the four seasons to include wonderful spring and summer flowers and colorful trees in the fall to take a walk and russel in the leaves. Have fruit trees and a garden. Not to hard of a winter though. One that you can see the beauty of the snow on the trees and deer in the back yard. Water for fishing, swimming and boating. Hiking year round. Just to be able to enjoy the beauty of these great United States. Michigan was commented on many times. All of our Great Lakes are beautiful and offer the year round enjoyment. Our economy here in Michigan could also use the boost. Michigan offers some great places for family and friends. It is a water wonderland with all the inland lakes to enjoy also. There is a great park system and also good hunting. I think it is a pretty good all around enjoyable place, except for the economy right now.

  13. You should have dream home 2009 in Ashtabula OH or near there. There are some really amazing areas there near Lake Erie.

This is ofcourse if the dream house 2008 is not already in Ashtabula which I’m sure there is a very strong possibility. :-)
    Thanks,

  14. HI, I JUST MOVED FROM IOWA TO COLORADO TO LIVE WITH MY SISTER AND HER HUSBAND. I AM A 49 YEAR OLD FEMALE WHO HAS BEEN DISABLED FOR 4 YEARS FROM A BRAIN TUMOR SURGERY AND DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I WOULD LOVE TO WIN THIS HOUSE NOT ONLY FOR ME, BUT FOR MY SISTER, MY BROTHER-IN-LAW, OUR 3 DOGS AND 2 CATS. IT WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE. THEY ARE PASTRY ROUTE DRIVERS WHO WORK VERY HARD AND THEY ARE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER, WE COULD EVEN BRING OUR AILING PARENTS OUT AND LET THEM SPEND THEIR LAST DAYS IN SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL AND TO DO THAT, THE HOUSE WOULD HAVE TO SHOW UP IN COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.

  15. I believe that HGTV would really have a great showcase of a home, if they now built a green house (one that really conserves energy – following Ed Begley’s example). Can you imagine a fully energy efficient home, including all luxuries and amenities included in your beautiful houses, but a home that would be self-sufficient as far as energy production, conservation and water filtering, etc. This would certainly tie in to Mr. Begley’s program – which is excellent – would give most valuable information on how to build green houses and would certainly break the general image held by popular opinion that a green house must be ugly or not pleasing to the eye.

A beautiful location would be Arizona, although I haven’t been there, I have seen pictures and heard that it would be an ideal location for this house.

  21. I’m wondering if they mean water/beach on one side and mountains/cliffs on the other side? Alaska would fit, but like Colorado it’s cold in the winter… so maybe Hawaii!?! Anywhere they choose is going to be beautiful though!

  38. I agree that perhaps the different perspective could be a mountain view from further away. We have some beautiful mountain views here in Washington state. Perhaps Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Ranier, or even of Mt. Hood in Oregon. Hmmmm.

  49. I believe it is in the Lake’s Bsin area of the California Sierra Nevada mountains. Specifically it could be Grizzley Creek or more likely Gold Mountain. There is also a possibility it is nearer to Trucky or Tahoe City. Either way it will include spectacular views of mountains, rivers, snowy peaks, wild country, rural valleys and maybe even trains. (I’m not telling where my favorite lot is that overlooks the Feather River and the Wild Buttes of a huge wilderness area. ;-)
