There is a Dream House in Chattanooga!

Many of you have voted for Tennessee’s fourth largest city as the site for HGTV’s Dream Home 2008.

“I love Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga! It’s beautiful there and a home overlooking the Tennessee River and the valley below is awesome!”

And some have even claimed to have seen the home being built on HGTV. But don’t confuse the HGTV series Dream House with the HGTV Dream Home. It is true that the new season of Dream House (Sundays at 10pm e/p on HGTV), follows a young couple building a home overlooking Chattanooga. But it’s not HGTV Dream Home 2008.

And remember, you only have two more days to enter for a chance to win this year’s HGTV Dream Home in Winter Park, Colorado. The giveaway ends this Friday at 5pm ET, and you can enter once a day until then!

  1. I lived in TN for 4 yrs and I LOVED gatlinburg. It’s breathtaking during the fall. Totally gorgeous. My vote will go for smoky mountain (or gatlinburg area).

  2. I would love to see a dream home built in Tennessee. There are so many beautiful areas for it. My husband and I can’t wait to retire from the military there. As Dorothy says “There’s no place like home”

  3. Good guess, Bridget! But…I think it’s going to be a small island with 360 degree ocean views! Hopefully somewhere warm. I DREAM of no more snow!!!

  4. HELLO HGTV AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU . I GUESS TENN.CAROL

  5. Anywhere in middle to eastern TN gets my vote! Hawaii would be wonderful, but way too long of a flight from the Eastern US. Hopefully not the FL Keys, there is nothing to do there except Fish and Drink. Let’s eliminate South Florida completely, people here Don’t Speak English!

  6. There was an earlier suggestion for Key West, I agree! It is a somewhat seasonal area like many of the other Dream Home sites, with beautiful ocean views and lots of things to do. We build and install modular homes there and find the locals are easy to work with and the layed back lifestyle is something many dream of.

  7. My wife and I went to Gatlinburg Tennessee for the first time in 1968. Our hearts will be forever there since it is peaceful, friendly and beautiful. A dream home atop one of the mountains there would be the perfect end of the day. God created the wonderous Smokey Mountains and HGTV could create the perfect addition there.

  9. The 2008 dream home will be in Chatanooga! The great Smokey Mountains are the place to be and just a hope, skip and a jump to the ocean! Ah, bellisimo!

Cathy on February 17, 2007 at 10:16 am
  10. Tennessee gets my vote. Anywhere in the Smoky Mountains.

  12. I would love to see a home in Tennessee. My husband and I have been thinking about moving there. Perfect!

  13. I think anywhere from upstate New York thru New England and Maine. Something in a rugged rocky secluded spot in an area overlooking a body of water like a large lake or ocean

Steve on February 17, 2007 at 12:46 pm
  14. I also vote for your beautiful home being built ocean or lake view. How about South Carolina!

  18. All of the places have been great and the houses have been beautiful. It would be wonderful to win any of them, but if I were to choose a location for the 2008 Dream House, it would be somewhere close to home. That way I would still be close to my children, grandchildren, and parents, and that place would be somewhere in SE Missouri or NE Arkansas.

Janet on February 17, 2007 at 6:54 pm
  19. In the Northwest corner of South Carolina is a spot so special. It would be a great place for the HGTV DH08, it’s called Lake Keowee. Beautiful clear water, 300 miles of shoreline. Mild summers, sunny winters and breathtaking scenery and awesome weather in the spring and autumn. Oh, by the way, mosquitoes and all those other nasty bugs are almost nonexistent there! Honest. Come and check it out if you don’t believe me..

  21. Dream Home 2008,will be in the big beautiful lone star state.Texas is what we call it.Big and beautiful is what it is.There are non like it,some do come close,so please build your beautiful dream home 2008 in our big beatiful lone star state.Where the sun always shines and the wind always blows, blue are the skies, cozy are our homes.Yes the lands are flat and the tempertures are hot,but what’s wrong with that?Just give it a shot.Dream home 2008?Come on guys let’s put here in the lone star state!

  22. I think the Dream Home for 2008 should be in the mountains of Fort Payne, Alabama. Just beautiful in the fall and cool in the summer. Or maybe Huntsville, Al. close to Nashville, Blue Ridge Mountains. What about it???

ANN on February 17, 2007 at 10:03 pm
  23. I think a great 2008 HOME would be in the Charlotte, N. C. area. It has some beautiful rural areas with horse farms. You would be close to the beach and the mountains. There is a race track for NASCAR fans and an amusement park close by.

paula porter on February 17, 2007 at 11:49 pm
  24. I think it is going to be Tennessee.

Thushara on February 18, 2007 at 9:29 am
  25. how about coastal Maine? With roaring waves and mountains soar. A painters paradise in Camden!

deborah on February 18, 2007 at 9:58 am
  26. How about a dream house on the outer banks of north carolina. The northern Currituck county beaches are breath taking and some of the villages(wiith multi-million dollar homes) are only accessible by 4 wheel drive and with wild horses grazing on the dunes it couldn’t be a better place to dream as the ocean waves roll in

    Paul S on February 18, 2007 at 10:03 am
  27. To the person (Patty) who said Port Charlotte, FL…NO WAY!! I lived there for years and it has become known as “Port Toilet”. Not along any coastline due to the hurricane threat, beach erosion, and high cost of living.
I vote for the beautiful mountains of Tennessee or anywhere in East Tennessee. Decent climate, great views, super nice people. How could you go wrong?? Anywhere in that part of the country would be great!!

Dan on February 18, 2007 at 10:19 am
  28. Warwick NY(southern NY) or Arizona…PLEASE!!!!

Julie on February 18, 2007 at 10:54 am
  29. Tennessee,Tennessee is the place to be. Eastern Tennessee is beautiful, close to Gatlinburg, the great smokie mountains. If in Johnson County you will be close to Watagua Lake, ski slopes in western NC.,Blueridge Parkway.THINK TENNESSEE.

  30. I would love to see a dream home on the coast near Charleston, SC. Maybe Isle of the Palms?

  32. I think there should be one in Myrtel Beach,South Carolina. It is a wondeful beach with great sunsets and warm southern people. It also has great
places to eat,and lots of places to fish. Its such a relief in the summer but truthfuly its great all year round. So Dream Home 2008 SHOULD be in Myrtel Beach ,South Carolina.

  35. My vote would be for any where around the Smoky Mountains.N.E. TN,N.W. N.Carolina or Northern GA.
Check out the quaint little towns of Andrews N.C.
and Cosby, Tn. or Clayton, GA. Hiawassi,Ga. or Blue Ridge, Ga.

  36. Chattanooga would indeed be a wonderful place for the next dream home but I’m wondering how the winners pay the taxes on such an expensive prize and continue to keep the property with its obvious high tax value….I would love to have it but know I would have to sell it immediately to keep Uncle Sam from confiscating it.

Elizabeth on February 18, 2007 at 2:17 pm
  37. I think Alaska is a great choice. I don't think it will be anywhere in Southeast Alaska though. Even though it's close to my heart…Rains to much for many people to have fun outside. How about somewhere in the interior, maybe the the Kenai Peninsula or the Mat Su Valley. There is plenty of "Big Game" in in Alaska. Go Alaska.

  38. HGTV has done a great job, finding these great places to build the dreamhomes on. And It just so difficult to say, ” this is the spot,” since their are so many places in this great country where you can build a dreamhome. So I say, ” I let HGTV do their job,on finding another great place to build a dreamhome, and let it be a very pleasant surprise.” Sincerly, Laura Purvis.

  39. Cape Cod Massachusetts would be a wonderful sight for the next hgtv dream home.

Kyle on February 18, 2007 at 10:49 pm
  40. please, anywhere in Tennessee, would be ideal for the 2008 dream home

Linda on February 18, 2007 at 10:51 pm
  41. I think that a great spot for the next HGTV Dream Home would be in Normalville, Pennsylvania. It would offer great views, and a serene setting. Also, there isn’t much media action out in the western Pennsylvania area. Also there is nearby skiing, rafting, and hiking at 7spring Mountain Resort and Ohiopyle State Park. It would also be close to Frank Llyod Wright’s, architectural masterpiece, Fallingwater.

Alex on February 18, 2007 at 11:23 pm
  42. I would love to see a dream house in Nashville Tennessee close to all the music industry with so much to do at all times.Nashville,TN would be the perfect location for the PERFECT DREAM HOME TO ME!!!

  43. I think that the new sight should be somewhere off the beautiful Rocky Mountains. This would allow taxes to be cheaper. Chattanooga is a wonderful location. I have been there many times and the view is great!

  45. The Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina is the oldest mountain in the world and the top of the Grandfather is the only privately owned biosphere in the world. From it’s slopes I can see for miles and miles across vast wild, craggy hillsides. Early in the morning, the mists cling to the valleys like soft, candy cotton blankets that slowly evaporate in the morning sunshine. The Grandfather is so called because when approaching it from the east, the outline of a man’s face in profile is visible. It is covered in Rhododendron that explode in a gorgeous riot of color in late spring. It is just a few miles from the beautiful little towns of Blowing Rock (with its own breathtaking views) and Boone, NC. The “Parkway”, a scenic highway that traverses states from Tennessee to Virginia , winds around the mountain and includes the “viaduct’, a critically acclaimed bridge built to follow the contours of the mountain and blend in with the rocks and foliage. A home on the side of the Grandfather overlooking the valleys below would be the ultimate home.

  46. I don’t know why the dream home has to be so expensive that the ordinary working person can’t afford to enter the contest. (I read about the couple in Texas that was unable to pay the taxes and couldn’t afford to live there, though they tried.) Think about doing a home that would be in a lovely location, but less ostentatious.

Julie on February 19, 2007 at 10:14 pm
  47. To wake up before sunrise and have that wonderful hot pot of coffee awaiting for you while looking over God’s beautiful mountains, listening to the birds chirp along with all the little critters. The sounds are breathe taking so why not a beautiful log cabin in the mountains of North/South Carolina it couldn’t get any better.

  48. If you haven’t heard, Mentone, Alabama is the ideal place for the 2008, or future, Dream Home. Mentone is a great retirement place with quaint craft villages and state parks, canyons, rivers and the beautiful Tennessee Valley. It is located atop Historic Lookout Mountain and sits center to Chattanooga, TN, Birmingham, AL, Huntsville, AL, and Atlanta, GA. It is a great hideaway in what we call “God’s Country”.

  49. i think a house on martha’s vineyard would be great- it has that country quaintness with the ocean feel to it- its great for seafood- fishing and hunting- the vineyard people are great
