Congratulation Robert and family, its an awesome home enjoy!
The old man didnt even seemed surprised that he just won a $2.5 million dollar home, a gmc car and $250,000 cash. That was extremely disappointing. He’s so old he’s gonna die soon and not be able to enjoy the house and all the other prizes anyways. What a rip off!
Apparently noone has read the blog from last years HGTV dream home give away. They told how they knew weeks before the anouncement they had won. They were told not to tell anyone but to invite 50 friends but not tell them why.So I knew I had not won, but was hoping to win the 100 grand. I will enter next year and the next. By the way I think the 2008 dream home will be in Texas.
Amanda, how can you say how long this guy will live? Your ass is not promised tomorrow! Hell he might outlive you!
I wonder if anyone black or person of color has won?
Congratulations to the O’Neil family! What a wonderful surprise. I’ts an absolutely beautiful home. I checked it out everyday on the website. I love HGTV and have picked up several decorating tips from watching. I will definitely enter everyday next year. I just hope the 2008 home isn’t being built along the Gulf Coast. Being from Biloxi, MS, we would love to get away from hurricane territory since Katrina.
Give me a break!! What a bunch of ungreatful brats! NEWS FLASH FOLKS: Its NOT your TV show to produce, nad the O’Neil’s did not ask to be trashed. What a bunch of very sore losers! If I had a kid that acted that way I would send ‘em straight to the corner. Lighten up, people are dying, starving, have no shelter from storms, and you have the nerve to complain. Somehow I think you complainers make everyones lives miserable–Now give it a rest and find a new hobbie—Congrat’s O’Neils–you deserve it!!!
Whoever the bonehead(s) who put this sham together should be fired immediately. While I am happy for the winner, I am so disappointed and disgusted with the way this was done that I will not be watching next year.
So where is the 2008 dream house located? Say what, I can’t hear you HGTV. Oh! that’s right! YOU STILL HAVEN’T TOLD US!!
WHAT A SHAM!!!
CONGRATULATIONS ROBERT AND FAMILY! You wanted it more than anyone! You deserve it Robert!
What a joke; at the beginning of the show, Joan said that the winner could be anyone watching the show, but we now know that wasn’t true because the winner was eating dinner at a restaurant, and they chose his name from a group of “finalists”. I wish they could at least be truthful as to how the sweepstakes is going to be conducted. As far as I know, they could have picked the winner before the time for entries had ended. If they’re untruthful about one thing, who’s to say that anything they’re saying is true??
Just because someone isn’t young doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve to win. As for his reaction, he looked more like he was in shock and guess what people react differently, just because he didn’t react the way you wanted him to doesn’t mean he wasn’t surpirsed. Give the family a break, the son knew that he was a FINALIST, he didn’t know that his father had won the house. Good for them for keeping it a secret. Congratulations to Robert and family!
Congratulations on winning! I hope Robert and his family can enjoy their new place. It is in a beautiful location. A great vacation home. Everyone can try again next year. It is just a fun and inexpensive way to try and win something.
Congratulations Robert Sr. and family!!! To all of those rude and cruel people out their… your a bunch of a** holes! Got it? Just because he is an elder and didn’t act surprised doesn’t mean he isn’t thankful. Shame on every one that said those things. Again, Congratulations.
Congratulations to the O’Neill family, and good luck.
Now, the rest of my message is for all you bloggers here. Apparently nearly all of you people need a “reality” check. I have watched a number of different blogs at different websites, and understand now why the US lags behind – 47th in the world. It’s because of the average level of intelligence of our country. I also know why I don’t blog. But after reading most of the comments here, I had to pipe in. First, there are now 3 million people living in the US. That means if even 10% of the country submitted entries to the HGTV dream home give-away, there would be 30 million people entering every day. We all stand a better chance of winning our state lotteries. Second, hello people, it’s television! There are no “totally random surprises” in TV-land. Everything you see and I mean everything – with the exception of hard news reporting – is staged. Sorry to disappoint you “reality show” enthusiasts. Third, winning a home valued at 2.5 million means that the average property tax each year is going to be at least 6% of its value, especially since they are all located in such “exclusive” areas of the country, so that’s $150,000.000. The mean income in the US is $46,000.00. That means each one of us would have to figure out how to come up with the additional $104,000.00 each year to pay the property tax. That leaves a zero balance in the bank account, and we haven’t even fed or clothed ourselves yet. And finally, if you are going to post and say something, at least have the guts to sign your name – yes, I’m referring to the bitter person who has had nothing nice to say in his/her over one dozen blogs and signs with “anonymous.”
So, quite complaining and just enter or don’t enter the contest.
Signed, a very miffed educator from Arizona
Good to see someone won the house that is old enough to appreciate it. Too experience lifes ups and downs makes you appreciate a wonderful gift and the potential to improve or enhance you current quality of life. Enjoy it in good health and I’m very happy for you.
Congrats to the winner, but I don’t think God had anything to do with it. Luck either.
I couldn’t believe when I read the chosen spot for the 2008 Dream House “The Florida Keys”. I won a trip to Disneyland in Florida in 1996 & fell head over heels for the area. Who knows maybe I’ll be lucky again!!
I am very happy for the winner…most of these people who are sore losers must have counted their chickens before they were hatched. With all the home makeover shows and Habitat for Humanity there are still people who cannot be happy for someone else. Life is not a guarantee of happiness always but we should be glad to see good tidings bestowed on others. Congratulations on the winners from a fellow Tennessean. Bring on the next contest!
Happy for them, sad for me, well i couldn’t pay the electric bill anyway!
How many times did he have to enter to win the house? My gosh he wasnt excited, its like he already knew they were coming to him anyway. They could have given it to someone younger with younger children who dont have a place to stay. But congrats to Bob and his family anyway.
Sorry to read all the negative comments towards the winner. I agree that HGTV should re-evaluate how they do it next year, marketing dept. must have all been out with the flu. Lots of hype and go follow thru. And something should be done differently with the “live” giv away, as at least 2 time zones were excluded from this, too bad for all of us. But from the sounds of it both winners were deserving. Now that we know where DH 2008 will be, I’ll enter next year, but am not interested in the location, but I have a wonderful friend who would love to live there, and with the taxes and things taken care of I would sell it to them for $1.00 and make another person happy! But I don’t watch HGTV like I did in the past, maybe next year’s reveal will be better. And PA WA would be a great place to build in 2009. Mountains, ocean, rainforest all near by, and just a great little town.
Still living in SD
Will IAMS be persued as a sponsor next year? I tell my children, “Guilt by association”. Maybe that should be taken in to consideration for next year.
Wondering?????
People, misery loves company. This is why your luck is so bad you are so jealous that you might as well kiss the devil.God does not like ugly.I am happy for the guy I feel like I won myself thats how happy I am.Get a life.
Nothing but happiness for the O’Neil family. The facts are scary about the taxes and I’m sure that they have already been set up with a realtor that has a buyer. They can use the money to buy a “real dream home”, one they will love, afford and be happily ever after in.
The winner’s son knew 3 weeks ago??? I entered the contest less than 3 weeks ago. Shouldn’t I get a refund?
To All the People who posted comments.
I’m so sad to know there are so many evil and selfish people. Here I am living in an apartment in a not so safe neighborhood. Sharing a room with my 15yr old daughter, and I’m happy for Robert and his family. No I’m not a loser. I have a college degree and I worked hard all my life but I still don’t have a lot but I can still find joy for others that are more fortunate than me. No I’m not happy with having nothing but I’m not going to stop trying. Until then anyone who wins I’m happy for, even you!
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND IF GOD GIVES ME THE CHANCE TO WIN THIS WONDERFUL HOME IN 2008, IM SURE HE WILL FIND A WAY FOR ME TO COME UP WITH THE TAX MONEY AND THE DETAILS.IF YOU BELEIVE, GOD WILL SHOW YOU THE WAY. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. EVEN IF HE DOESNT GIVE ME THIS HOME IM SURE HE WILL TAKE CARE OF ME AND MY FAMILY IN ANOUTHER WAY.
I am really happy for the 2007 dream home winner. However, I had so much faith that I would win but, yet, I knew I would not win, because of the odds. I thought this would be the perfect place, my grandfather lives in Denver. And somehow, my mom lost contact with him – 51 years went by and we found him about 2 years ago. I was praying for this house, I even told him. This would have been the perfect place to meet/see my grandfather for the first time. Anyhow, after HDTV arrived at the restuarant where the winner was dining; this told me they had already drawn the name of the winner. I would like for it to be real surprise. Such as showing up on the job, at the place of residence. That would be very shocking.
well i wish everyone good luck in the 2008 dream house but i hope to win i like to have a home to call my own for me and my family we don’t have much but just maybe one day we will come into something great
i wish good luck to the people who win, but i hope my parents win because this is important to them. we need the house so then we could sell it for however much money it is worth. so, good luck for whoever wins this house.
Congrats to Mr. ONeil. I am truly happy for you. Good luck to all! My greatest joy would be seeing this home given to a family who truly needs or deserves it.
this is a really silly question but here it goes..
did this guy mr. oneil win?
she didn’t even seem suprise that she won, it makes me wonder about this, also she act like she didn’t even care, people like that don’t deserve to win…………
I was sooooo disappointed in the winner!! She showed no excitement, or emotion what so ever. Millions of people entered, and I know for myself I was very excited to watch and see the big winner just for a huge dissapointment!
Everbody that watched HGTV dream home giveaway on 03/17/08, 9pm eastern; please raise you hand if you think that the presentation of the Dream home was a surprize to the winners. Not only was thier front door not locked it wasn’t even latched. the HGTV prize presenter pushed on the front door and it just swung open to a dark foyer whereupon she walked in and the only person that approached her was the lady who was the winner. The HGTV prize presentered did not ask for and Id or even a name verification. Not much of a last minute surprize if you ask me. The HGTV viewers were told and totally led to believe that it was a spur of the moment surprize. As a contest entrant I congradulate HGTV for the sweepstakes but I respectively request that I not be lied to in future contests of this nature
Jesse, You have last year’s (2007) blog. I agree with Sharda 100%. How lame can 2008 dream SURPRISE home giveaway get? L.A.M.E. She knew before the door was opened. HGTV L.I.A.R.S.
