A Message From the O’Neill Family
Hi All!
I am the son of Bob Sr. and wanted to say thanks to all of you that gave us your blessings.
It’s scary to read how many people are bitter they did not win, or that my father was not excited. As of today, he is still in shock, to say the least! Trust me, my father will have his break down period now that the news cameras are gone, papers are signed, phone calls are slowing down and so on.
It’s just so unreal, as he says right now. He’s been giving phone interviews, press conferences, and has not had the time to just sit and think of what he has won. My father is a very smart man, and trust me, he will be able to handle all the winnings. I know we all think we deserve it but trust me, out of any man I know, my father is great and really deserves this.
He has gone thru a lot of hard times losing his son in a car accident, his wife to cancer, then his mother-in-law and brother-in-law. My father knows pain, as he knows being happy.
Putting all this aside, he could run circles around most of us. My father has worked hard his whole life in giving his family what they needed growing up. My father has also given back to all his communities he has lived in. And trust me, if the man above is watching, he picked my father for a reason.
For those that wished us well in the comments, thank you so much. For those that had mean things to say, shame on you!
Robert O’Neill Jr.

I just finished watching the video of your touring the house. I can’t even imagine the joy you and your family must be experiencing in receiving this wonderful gift. I wish you all the best in your new home and hope you all spend many wonderful hours in your Dream Home.
A special thanks to HGTV for making this possible to everyone.

I just wanted to say congrats after watching the Oprah show. I entered the contest myself several times and actually forgot about it until now. I was shocked to find that others acted like they counted on winning.
I’m glad the winner was someone who seems responsible enough to be able to handle winning such a prize. Most of us dream of winning it ourselves and don’t realize how much responsibility comes with it if we do end up winning. Taxes, upkeep, utilites ect..
It seems to me those that wouldn’t be happy for the person that won wouldn’t be able to handle winning in the first place.
I hope your family enojoys your new home and has many happy years in it. Everyone else can always enter for the next home in the Keys and be jealous of that winner also.
To Bob and new wife, You worked hard all your life, and like many of us had your ups and downs, I have even lost son. But we all had a chance, and that is the way life is. I am happy for you and your new wife, You are well deserving, of course we all think we are well deserving, and I believe, in Karma, you do good and it comes back on you…so enjoy the big Dream, It was meant for you to be the one.. God Bless your new home and all your family and take care. …from, Karen in Las Vegas.
To the O’Neils-I am so happy for you and all of your family-CONGRATULATIONS!!!You certainly seem to be a very nice man and very deserving. Good Luck to all of you. I watched the Oprah show, I hadn’t seen it in a long time because I’m usually watching Paula Deen on the Food Network- but I really enjoyed her show and especially the part about you and your wife winning the Dream Houseand how you all feel about it! Also I really liked watching the live tour you all took of your new home that was on HGTVnetwork this afternoon. You have to be sooo excited to have won- what a beautiful place it is and I love the way they have furnished it for you – so cozy and warm and at the same time very stylish and eye pleasing. I sorry anybody dared to say anything less than pleasant to you-I can’t imagine what their purpose
As a fellow retired USPS employee we are very happy you won! Enjoy it with your loved ones. Even if you are to sell it to find something closer to what/where you know as “home”, this is a wonderful time for you. The reflection that each of you give is that a well deserving family has won. Best wishes for your retirement, the best is yet to come.
My husband and I both know what it’s like to go through so much, but God never leaves us! My family was also extremely close; wanting nothing but the best and loving each other unendingly! You recieved the blessing of watching your dad’s reactions to it all…To me, that is something that is priceless. When we love someone, just being there for them and with them is more than enough, isn’t it???? GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS. Linda in Indiana
I saw on the video that your father, Robert O’Neill, lived in Connecticut in the past. Where did he live? He looks very familiar.
Thank you.
WOW…There is a saying those who talk behind your back only make you 2 steps ahead of them…Thats true Please there will always be loosers griping but you just care about the well wishers and your family because when it comes down to it Family is all that matters, Your dad was blessed to get this house and for that I say God Bless him he has gone thru a triump like ourselves and that is loosing a son I feel after my sons death Family is most important and dont sweat the small stuff. The people who are bad mouthing are only Jealous and being jealous is so petty when there missing out on one important thing in life they have there loved ones be thank-full they do.Dont pay attention to small minded people they have nothing better in life to do but complain seems thats why they were never the winners of the dream home at all.Winners should be people that are Happy for others isnt that why your dad won? I am sure he is a good man…I Say enjoy that beutiful home with his family and God Bless…Carol!
How do I sign up to participate on the chance of winning the 2008 dream home? I lloked everywhere in the site and I don’t see where to enter myself.
Can anyone help?
Dear Mr. O’Neil Jr:
Shame on them is right! My family and I have been through so much as well and had we won, we too would be completely amazed that people would begrudge us something so wonderful after experiencing so much “chaos” and “grief” in our lives as well!
We all have our own crosses to bear and everyone needs to remember that being a “Good Sport” makes you a “winner” too.
Best of Luck
SBene and family
Congrats O’Neils. Enjoy your winnings. I to am disapointed with hgtv. While we were watching the show at one point we were told that we may want to put on lipstick or fix our hair. That there may even be a truck waiting outside our homes. But if the winner was already notified and a party was in progress…then it wasn’t a fair contest. I thought that the winner would be caught by surprise when they answered their front door. Oh well, we will all get over it. But I’ll tell you all something. I did get up and change my clothes and fix my hair and makeup and my husband even put on socks. I even turned on the front porch lights.
HGTV get your act together.
Again congradulations, and when you are sitting in front of that warm fire of your new DREAM HOME drinking hot chocolate, please think of all of us wishing we we you. BEST WISHES!
I just want to say that after reading about your dad and the things that have happened and the type of person he is that it sounds like the right person won.
I am very disappointed in HGTV and Dream Home! How dare they tease us throughout the Dream Home giveaway show by saying we could be outside your door. When all along they had already made contact with the winning persons family and had them set up at a restaurant. HGTV should be sued for FRAUD! I am so upset I can not even watch anything on HGTV. You tempted us, deceived us all thru the giveaway and then dangled the prize for us on national television while we waited patiently for the results. How proud you must be to have your great ratings and television give away! You didnt even surprise the winner, he knew all along what was up. For HGTV to do this only shows, what makes great television is more important than viewers who followed the rules, played along and then was duped for over an hour awaiting a possible knock on the door in hopes of being the winner. How DARE YOU HGTV.!!!
Congratulations to your entire family who, by the way, were already winners before the Dream Home Give Away. You already have a real treasure in the Grace that exists in your family ties.
I am happy to say that I did not read any of the negative comments. Perhaps it is that REAL treasure I spoke of that those unfortunate people actually envy.
Enjoy this wonderful time.

I really don’t know much about the gentleman that won, but Good For Him!!!! I may be the next winner!!!!!!! There is always next year!
Dear Sir,
I cannot tell you how happy I was to watch your father receive his prize. I just watched the video of him walking through the house and I had a huge smile on my face the entire time.
His lovely new bride seems like a very special person as well. What a tender, sweet gesture to give her a little kiss when she sat on their new master bed. I don’t believe in cloning, but after seeing that sweet man, I know there are many women who would love to have a husband just like that!!
Naturally, I also entered daily, but knew that God is the One who is sovereign over all. It is very apparent that your father is an exceptional person and he certainly publicly gave glory to God, which He always honors. I am thrilled for your family and wish them all the happiness for their future.
I am sure only God could have helped you keep that secret, and naturally HGTV had to have some help to pull it off!! You are a very fine son, indeed!
Blessings in Christ,
Katrina
People are vocalizing their bitterness at not winning??? Then they weren’t the type person that deserved to win!
Keeping it short and sweet….Karma. Your bitterness will come back to haunt you in some way.
Sounds like Mr. O’Neill had the patience and faith of Job.
Just send those whiners to come see me, Jr. I’ll give something to really whine about.
Mr. ONeil Sr. Congratulations on winning the 2007 Dream Home. It is a really beautiful home and I hope you have a wonderful life in such a beautiful home. It is funny because you are from Tennessee and that is where I was hoping that the 2008 Dream Home was going to be built. I am from New Jeresy and want to move to Tennessee and live in a modest home with lots of land for my horses to roam. That would be my dream home. A small home with lots of land and a barn. Lots of luck and happiness in your new dream home.
Congrats on the win. Any time that HGTV gives a housse away I pray for God to do the picking. I always hope that I would be the one but he nows best. I will keep praying for Mr. ONeil Sr and his family.
Robert Jr.,
I enjoyed reading your letter, it made me smile. I just love it when I hear good things happening to people. It reinforces my faith every single time, because I know that God blesses those that are deserving and for those that lost and were ugly about it….lost a lot more than a contest!
Congrats!!! I am sure when it hits your dad he will need an easy chair and some smelling salts, so be prepared! God Bless!
Congratulations to the O’Neils!!! Here’s hoping you make wise decisions and enjoy your win.
I just ran across this blog while looking for something else on the HGTV site. I wish the O’Neils were not taking the negative comments from some of these losers seriously. These are the same type of people that would make a mess out of winning a dream home like the nut that won the Tyler TX dream home. Anyone with any sense should know that unless they have a sizeable unearned or inherited income they are going to have to use the won cash and more for taxes & expenses until the house is sold, THEN build THEIR dreamhouse where they choose.
This is a contest, an advertising promotion for HGTV and their sponsers….there is one LUCKY winner. The purpose is to keep us coming to their site and viewing it and showcasing the sponsers products. HGTV does not to do this for any of us. HGTV is not a charity that gives to the poor & less fortunate.
Your age, gender, location, race, hard luck, disability, or whatever doesn’t matter. Any information on you they obtain is for their advertising purposes. We all wanted to win. Most of us have the good sense to know the odds were against us, but we entered many times anyways. It was fun to dream even if we didn’t win.
We learned about new products and got some great ideas. Maybe luck will be with us in 2008!
Thankyou HGTV for the fun.
Robert Sr.
I"m glad you won, I wished it was me, But I'm glad it was someone here in Tn. I live in Crossville. God be with all of you in your new home
God picked the most deserving person to win the home in Colorado. He looks on the heart. If the rest of us looked on the heart and not ourselves it would be a better world.
I am happy for your Dad. What a beautiful place to live. I am sure it will be awhile before it sinks in that it really is his home. Enjoy it. Forget about the mean spirited people out there. Jealousy is a bitter spirit to live with.
Thanks to HGTV for the fun. Am I going to enter again? Absolutely! Am I going to continue to watch HGTV? Absolutely! Where else can I get the information to change my surroundings? Where else is there so much fun?
Those of us who entered had hope.
Congratulations! Bob Sr. May your home be a blessing to those who walk through it’s doors……..Anita in California
To those who had mean things to say, it is obvious why you didn’t win.
Congratulations on your winning. I wish you all the best. I also am from Tennessee, so I was glad for you from the start. Some people are jealous and envious. Don’t let it bother you. The devil is in their soul, and God is obviously in yours. Just pray for the ones who criticize you, and remember one thing, you only have one person to answer to and I’m sure the good Lord is on your side. From your sons comments you sound like a Christian man. I entered that contest every day, and I wanted to win, but I didn’t. I’m still proud of you accomplishment.
God belss you and your family. Also, one last thing, your son sounds like a good man too. And I would like to praise you for giving praise to your beloved former wife. You truly are a special man! God will bless you in more ways than one!!!!!
Hope summer is good in Colorado. I am glad to here you are going to live in your new home. Sounds like you deserve all your good fortune. Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
