  1. Here you go people. This is YOUR chance to win your dream home, where you want it and at a price you can afford. This is what you all wanted, right? I have entered to win it, but I still truly want the Islamorada home. That is my true DREAM HOME. I am also interested in the Green Home. There has still been no word as to where it is. I would love to watch it being built to see the products and materials used in it’s design so that even if I don’t win it or don’t feel I should enter to win it for one reason or another, I may be able to use ideas from it. Maybe in the best built home. Who knows?! :) HGTV I think it is great that you are plugging your sister station and urging your viewers to enter to win this affordable home. Great idea! Now, how is the DH08 home doing? I really can’t wait to see anything at all regarding its construction. :) Thanks for all you do HGTV!

  7. Hey, now all you people that wanted that affordable home can have it. No more complaints about the cost of the dream home, now that they gave you an alternative. Leave the Dream Home for the real dreamers. The Dream Home is more to my liking. I love the idea of living on the ocean and kicking back in a hammock on the beach. Good luck to everyone and keep dreaming.

  9. HGTV, What a class act, to pass on all our suggesions to DIY. And allow them to offer
an affordible home that almost anyone would be able to keep. And to be able to pick our own locaion! (I hope I read that right), that is the best! Becky, I can’t ” have it” unless I enter the contest like everybody else, and I have. Now I have THREE Homes to dream about. Thanks HGTV, for doing your own thing in your own way. Keep dreaming everyone

  17. I am so excited this year. Three homes to enter to win, wow!! My hubby and I are truly in our element with the DH08. Our hearts, souls, minds, bodies and spirits live for the water and the sub-tropical to tropical climates. We grow pineapples around our home now, along with birds of paradise, halequonia, bromilliads and several verieties of palms. We also try to live a green life to a point. We use buckets to capture rain water to water our plants and allow mother nature to work for our lawn. We also use recycled materials when ever possible, so the Green home would be good for us too, but it will depend on where it is located as to whether or not I enter to win it. Location is the key for us, because we don't want to be so far away from our families that we can't see them on a regular basis (at least once a month). Then there is also the opportunity to have a home where ever we choose and the type of home we choose. How can you go wrong? Again, I say thank you to HGTV. I love your programing and thanks to my mother I am hooked!!!! Still working on the Hubby though. He only watches a couple of your shows, but he is coming around. :) Love you HGTV!!!

  18. I love the Dreamhome give away. I dream all year long about living in the home and visualize myself in the different rooms. It is great to dream.I have never won anything myself and feel that one time, I will be the winner of the lotto or a dream home. Thanks for the beauty and opportunity to dream big.

  19. Hey Becky from Napa Valley
Are you suggesting that people that can’t afford the Dream Home, not enter and only enter the DIY contest? How unfair is that? I bet you aren’t only entering the Dream Home!

  24. Hi Sandra…I don't think Becky from Napa was suggesting that people who can't afford the Dream House not enter….If you go back and read some of the earlier blogs, people were complaining about the expense for the winner of building the 2008 Dream Home in hurricane alley….believe me there were tons of complaints and comments. I have said it before on this blog and I think Becky agrees, if you can't afford the 2008 Dream House or don't want to live anywhere they decide to build a Dream Home and you're blessed enough to win, then sell it and build you own. I'm positive Becky's comment was addressing the concerns people had about the expenses involved and nothing more.

  25. The diy best built home is a great idea and so is the diy blog cabin contest coming soon. These two diy homes and the two hgtv homes gives us four homes to dream about everybody. I like the best built home contest it seems to be a pick your own place deal and somebody else can win $21,000.oo also. That was part of what I was asking for by a more affordable home with more choice in location and design. I didn’t know about the bbh until last night. I’m more of a hgtv viewer than diy. Although my husband and I are definitely diy people where projects are concerned. Now all we need is more audience participation in the homes being built.

Carrie Miracle on May 4, 2007 at 6:37 pm
  26. Hi Sandra. Not at all. There were a lot of comments from people requesting a less expensive house, as if it were a burden to win a house they couldn’t afford. I’ve commented in the past “if you can’t afford it, sell it and build your own dream.” Anyone and everyone is allowed to enter to win, as it should be. In fact, I love seeing the underdog win, just like our Golden State Warriors!!!

Becky from Napa Valley on May 4, 2007 at 8:16 pm
  27. Thank you HGTV for listening to all the complaints about building an affordable home. I just entered the DIY Home giveaway. Although I love HGTV homes they are the best. I can’t wait until January to enter the home in Isiamarada, Flordia. God bless everyone. We are all winners.

  34. Good Morning Fellow Bloggers, I just wanted to wish everyone good luck, And if you should not win any of these contests, Please don’t get discouraged in anyway, Keep the FAITH that one day your Dreams will happen, If not handed to you Go make it happen! Believe me, I’m prepared that if I’m not the winner of the DIY sweeps, then I will still strive to make my Dream HAPPEN, I still plan on going to check out the destination where I want to live with my family, Check it out everyone, The tax’es are LOW, the place is a fishermen’s paradise, Very low cost homes, BEAUTIFUL PLACE, I know I must sound like a broken record, But Mountain Home Arkansas is the place to be, I had to check my son out of school one day, And there was this man in the office requesting for his daughters records to be sent to Arkansas, I was nosey, And asked what part of Arkansas he would be moving to, Guess what? He said Mountain Home, My jaw hit the floor, Ha! I said you lucky dog, He looked at me strangely, I said I’ve been wanting to go there for several months now, He said it was a nice place, just be prepared for The Fleas, I said that’s ok that’s want they make flea killer for, (surreal) Hang in there to all of you, God Bless you all, Lisa Barnard, arkansas bound………..

  37. Oh My God, HGTV listened to me. The Florida Keys. My dream come true. My daughter just came back from Islamaroda on vacation and she was so impressed with it. Yhey went snorkeling and saw coral reefs and dolphins following them. They had such a great time. Please Lord let me win this dream home. If I won th DIY home it would still be in the Keys or somewhere in South Florida.

  38. The homes always are fabulous and they always make me wish I had one. However, I wonder if you could make the house plans with larger print? I can never see the tiny characters.
    Thank you, Chloe

  39. I was thinking…since it will probably be a while before we see any actual images or blueprints for the DH08, why not start a blog where people can say what they hope to see in the dream home. Maybe even suggest ideas for the secret room in this home. I’m sure the professionals are already hard at work on their ideas for the house, but I think it would be nice to see what others want to see. The ideas may even be used in future dream homes.

  40. Entering, and watching, for the Dream Home for 2007 is so exciting. The Florida Keys was a wonderful choice. The only reason I continue to pay for cable is so I can watch something worthwhile on television, HGTV, etc.

    Thanks

  41. Howdy Bloggers, I hope everyone is feeling good today, Praying for your Dreams to come true, I was wondering if any of you saw the show about the homes in hawaii? SHANGRALA was Beautiful, Ms Duke was very blessed to have such a home(Mansion)I also love design on a dime and mission organization, Lord knows we could all probably use them in our homes, The designers are so into thier work, they are truely amazing how they can change a room the way they do, I love candice olsen, she’s awesome, joan steffend, and the show Designers challenge, I mean come on these people sometimes have up to 50.000 to redue one room or yard, pretty cool, HGTV/DIY keep up the awesome work, Good Luck to All, Lisa Barnard…

  42. I have tuned into a couple of DIY’s shows when there were repeats on HGTV and actually got my hubby to as well. We both grew up watching some of their shows that were on other stations at the time. Man tv is soon going bye bye. Well, maybe not completely, but at least not so much. :) Are there any updates as to the construction of the DH08? I am just really excited about this one. How about the location of the green home? Anything, anything at all? ;)

Lelia on May 9, 2007 at 1:15 pm
  43. Are there going to be remakes or remodels done for men only?…..Garage makeovers, studies, offices? Less kitchen/bath redos………What do you think HGTV?

leon on May 9, 2007 at 5:06 pm

Great Dream Home by the way. As for the new home….Yep, the 08 Islamorada (sp) location is superb. Codos to Jack for the location!! We have a 13inch TV in our room and we watch it. It would be a blessing to win anything!!! Well keep on blowing our minds HGTV with your creativity…

  47. Post for Anonymous, Good ideal, My Dream Home would look just like the one that DIY has on thier web page, The inside, I would like a very spacious living room, as that would belong to my brother, maybe one guest bedroom and a bathroom, Upstairs I would like 3 bedrooms 1 bathroom and maybe a bathroom in the master suite, also a small kitchenette would be awesome upstairs, depending on the funds, So that’s my ideal of a perfect home, And a 2 car garage for my car and my brother’s van, Any more ideals fellow bloggers? I can not wait untill june 20-22, I’m praying everyday, as we all are I’m sure, Good Luck to all!!! Lisa Barnard…

  48. You are invited to tour Nora’s Garden in Wynne Arkansas. Nora Lillian Hall Coffin purchased the plans to the first all electric home in the south at The Chicago Worlds fair and hand drew the gardens. I have the blueprints for both. She founded Sharp Flowers in Wynne Arkansas in 1934
I have created a tour of my grandmother’s garden in West Wynne. Across the street is the home that belonged to W.S. Coffin (her father in law) and conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad and 3rd generation descendant of Tristam Coffin of Nantucket. Unfortunately the train depot has been torn down and the future of this historic home looks doomed without intervention. Louise Coffin, daughter of W.S. Coffin lived in the home until her death a few years ago. She spent her life teaching piano there and played the organ for the United Methodist Church in Wynne Arkansas.

    Nora’s Grandson,
    John H. Streeter

  50. Ok, I’m game. I would like in my dream home a metal roof to top it off, lots of outside areas (we spend a lot of time outside), an open floor plan, about three bedrooms (one for an office), a big master suite, lots of big windows. A nice size kitchen with lots of counter space (not too big, cause we cook more outside), ample storage, wood/tile floors, open and airy but comfortable warm and inviting. It doesn’t matter to me if it is one, two or three story, but I would really like it to have either a craftsman style or old country farm house, or beach house appeal. I just really like the character those old homes. I think the architects that are involved with this years dream home are amazing. I went on to their web site and saw what they have done. I love the vision. They bring charm to the areas that they build in. I just love the work they do. Good job HGTV in bring them aboard to work on the DH08. I have no boubt this home will be amazing.
