  2. I can’t believe it! There’s a post siting! Long time no hearing from you. I know it’s summer and that’s when the construction processes get kicking into gear. And everybody’s vacations do too and slows things down a bit. Everybody needs some time off and fun! But I really am looking so forward to all the 08 chances coming up. The green home idea is just awesome.

  4. I think the new home should be built in Traverse City, Michigan. It is so beautiful here and around here. The summers are gourgeous, the fall is full of beautiful colored leaves and winter covered in snow is excellent for snowmobiles, snow shoes and skiing.

  5. Looks like the hills of Tennessee to me. Maybe Chatanooga, overlooking the Tennessee River.

  6. Hey, thanks fcole! thought you forgot about us…but you didn’t give us any real indication as to how this house will be green.
For instance, will you be using solar power to energize the house? Or any other natural power for that matter…let us know! Thanks much…

  7. Yes! I am so happy that the blog is back! I like everyone else, would get to this page and there would be May 22 posts day after day. I was getting worried. I am really excited about the green home. My hubby just built a rain barrel for me. He didn’t spend a dime doing it either. We have had very little rain, but right after he put it up it rained approx. 3 in. I am still using that rain water to water my plants. I have said it before, but we recycle and reuse everywhere we can. We aren’t extreme about being green though. We just feel that we would rather drink water instead of having the most beautiful lawn in the neighborhood. Now we have landscaped, but we still have grass (weeds) and as long as it rains some it will be green. It is a hardy grass and not the real pretty grass that looks like a carpet, but we don’t care. As long as the association thinks it looks good and leaves us alone we don’t care. Man, I missed this. I am soooo happy. I have missed everyone. I just spent about a half hour catching up on all the posts that have just come through and can’t wait to read more. Good luck to everyone on the Best Built home. I really enjoyed the red, hot and green show on June 10. Thanks HGTV. I didn’t get all of it. I came in late so I will have to watch it from the beginning next time it is on. I was busy and forgot it was on that evening. Lisa, I believe it was you that had mentioned that people are mean and so forth. That is why I love this site so much. There is nothing rude or volger and it is very informative, along with the fact that everyone here is nice and enjoys the same things. It is great!!! I have missed it. Didn’t I say that before? Well I did and I am so happy it is back. Can’t wait to read everyones new posts. I still love HGTV and everything they do. Oh, I still can’t wait to see anything on the DH08. I truly get all tingly inside just looking at the drawing of the DH08. That home in that location, WOW! It is still exciting to me, as if it was the first time I heard and saw it. And, even crazier, I will watch the video of Jack T. when he announced the location, just to see it again. Crazy is good.

  8. Just like Kermit The Frog, I would love being Green. :) The concept is awesome and sounds comfy, cozy. Can’t wait to see it. Hope the blog continues through the “Busy” summer, Tickled it’s back for now anyway. Thanks fcole

  9. Thank you so much for building a green home- we all need to be aware of things we can do each day to protect and save our environment! This contest will really open up people’s eyes! Thanks HGTV!

  10. I knew this green home would come about. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. I’m hoping for the state of Virginia but Tn. would be a great area also. Can’t wait for more information we over at the Environmental Living Board have started sleuthing. HGTV, I have so many questions but I know I will have to be patient. !!!!

  12. Will this lovely home have an elevator? People come to florida to retire and shortly thereafter can’t climb stairs….l am one of them.

For the young ones, they won’t be young forever!

l am in a trailer now as with SS that is all you can afford. l would love to have one nice new little home before l die. Will you ever have one not so large and extravagant?

  13. Islamorada DH ’08
    Yes! Islamorada is beautiful!
    Yes! D.H. Concept (Artist’s rendering)is pretty!
Yes! The site is only a few feet ABOVE sea level!
Yes! Islamorada is directly in westward – northward bound Hurricane Alley!

So tell us what is being incorporated into the construction that will enable it to withstand a Cat. 5 hurricane? And attendant storm surge? A high tough seawall?

Tell us that “Replacement Value”, full coverage, uncancelable, lifetime insurance will come with the home?

    A lifelong Florida resident.

  14. HELP!!! It seems that some are getting the Green Home mixed up with the Dream Home in Florida.

This site is Green and as to date we don’t know where the Green Home will be built.

HGTV? Is there anyway we can keep these two sites separate? The Environmentally Living Board has been talking about the Green Home for quite some time. Could we please designate that board the future site of the GH board? Lots of nice people there who have put alot of time into building relationships with each other and building an HGTV Green Home. We respect your opinion but would like to have a Green Home Board separate from the HGTV Dream Home.
    Thank you for your opinion

  15. I now have HGTV as my home page! I can’t wait to see the Dream Home! I want to win this home for my family so so bad. I grew up in Miami & my father built us a small home in Key Largo off of Jolly Roger Drive. Our family/grandkids have used the home for 34yrs now. This would be so great to win so that everyone now would have a new place to go to come together.

  16. Thank Goodness,
I checked the other blog about the DIY Best Built Home everyday, Last post may 22nd, made by katydid, And I mean EVERYDAY, Ha!, I miss my fellow bloggers, I see Carrie is here and Leila, also Peggy H, I really missed you guy’s, Hopefully the other bloggers will join us soon, Green House is a great ideal, I couldn’t even began to guess the location, Maybe somewhere where the air is more polluted, I’m still awaiting that call from DIY, june 20-22nd, As we all are, Glad we can post again, Thank You Fcole, HGTV, Keep up the awesome work, Love your new show, That guy in Indiana that built his home under ground, that was COOL, He spent alot of time and detail, the iron artwork was original, My brother and I watched it, The staircase was beautiful, the whole house was, and his pond took alot of time and detail, I love that show, gotta go, Lot’s of Luck to everyone, GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!!!!!!! 17. The picture marked Green Home reminds me of the many beautiful golf courses in Michigan. But that tiny floor plan has me confused. I know my eyes aren’t the best, but I seem to see one bedroom and a three car garage. I hope that is not a footprint of the Green Home, but only an example….help, fcole. Linda’s tips are great. All though I am not in a position to remodel my kitchen or bath, I can take to heart her suggestions, like “shop locally”. Great idea. Also, natural products for cleaning, etc. Never heard of “green carpet”…how wonderful. But, regarding the wood products, i.e. bamboo “coming from a country that’s 500 miles away” Surely that was a typo. I can get to a country that’s less than 50 minutes away. Yes, I go SOUTH to get to Canada. I don’t think they grow bamboo there, but they have the sweetest people you would ever want to meet. Just like my fellow bloggers. I love you all so much, Keep dreaming, and LEARNING ABOUT GREEN, as I am. I can’t thank you enough, HGTV.

In response to your post———-A 16 ft. bunker and then build the home……..At least 6 ft. above surge…….And hope that it comes with lifetime full coverage in case it goes bye bye……………or floats away….You could be in it so make the home seaworthy…….hehehe….a little humor folks…

    Have a good one……

  19. I am so glad that you are back! When will you start showing the construction of the 2008 Dream Home? I am so excited to see it as you build it. I have looked at everything that you have to show and it is gorgeous! I have never been south of the Idaho border and I just can not imagine the smells and colors and the beautiful sun sets and sunrises. OH MY GOODNESS! What a thrill that must be down there! I sure do hope that you will show the construction of the new home. Thanks so much for the previews that we can see.

  21. Thanks so much for listening by having a Green Home Giveaway! I feel that Asheville, NC would be the ideal place for a Green Home. The green home would go nicely with the environmentally friendly and holistic atmosphere of Asheville. Obviously, whoever wins the home would be eco-minded and would want to live in a place that supports that lifestyle and Asheville is that place.

Thanks again and I look forward to winning! ;)

  24. Hey everyone, just popped in to read new posts. Larkin, we discuss and comment on everything HGTV does on this blog. We talk a lot about the DH08 and the Green Home. We are all very interested in it. We all still love the idea of the DH08 as well. And, sometimes we go completely off key and talk about our gardens and war stories. You have a good idea, but you can join in on this blog anytime. I speak for myself, but new ideas and thoughts are always welcome. Sometimes it gets a little confusing, because you can’t really tell which home some people are discussing, but that is the charm of this blog to me anyway. I am happy to see Lisa B, Carrie M, Peggy H, Katydid and all the others again. Leon you are a hoot. Too funny. fcole, where is the Green Home going to be located? Any ideas, clues, anything, anything at all. How is the DH08 coming along, any ideas, anything at all? I love HGTV and all that you do. Your programing is great and so is your web site. Can’t get enough. Good luck to everyone who entered the DIY Best Built Home sweepssteaks!! Let us know if one of you wins.

Lelia on June 19, 2007 at 8:50 am
  25. A lot of these questions about DH08 could be answered but fcole doesn’t allowed the answers to be posted on here. HGTV wants you to not know anything until they inform you, which is not going to happen. All the excitement is taken away.

  26. I’m excited to be back on the blog and posting, even if Fcole/HGTV doesn’t post something every single day, and as far as separating the blogging sites, I’ll have to agree with Leila, I’m sure that after Larkin reads all of our posts, she will see that we are all friends here and always have been since way back when the blogging began, It’s anybody’s choice to read or not to read, I myself am THRILLED to read every post, espically the one’s from the regulars, no matter if it’s about the HGTV 08 Dream Home, DIY Best Built Home, or the Green Home, So, hope you all have a blessed day, Don’t worry Be happy, we are friends here OK??? 28. Yes!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the pictures of the building site for the DH08. I am truly so excited. I just read some of the stuff on it on HGTVpro. Too cool!! Man, what a beautiful location, even through all the construction it is just beautiful. This home is going to be the best yet (in my opinon) I love every aspect of this home and can’t wait to see it finished. Thanks fcole for releasing this info. I am jumping for joy. It doesn’t take much to excite me. :) Happy day.

  29. LEON: Your response to Robert is priceless. Are you a stand-up comic? You should be. hehehe. Keep the humor coming.
ANONYMOUS: Does anyone in this life have coverage for all things unexpected? I think not. You take what life gives you with courage and faith. Many on this blog have lost dear ones, I, of course, among them. Careful planning is thoughtful and wise, but prepairing for the unexcpected is sometimes futile. Do what you can and Keep The Faith!
ANOTHER ANON. I wish you had used better English. Of course it’s all about excitement! That’s why all us bloggers and dreamers are such fans of HGTV. Keep reading our posts and maybe you will get the idea. Thanks again to HGTV and all my friends, LOVE, pass it on.

  30. Ya know I have never enjoyed getting to know such a wonderful group of people in my life. I meet alot of interesting people in my job and they are for the most part very sweet, but I must say you are all the greatest bunch of strangers that I have never met! :-) So Hey to Lelia, Lisa B, Carrie M, Katydid, Leon, Rosemary, Larkin and even anonymous and everyone else. God Bless you all! I pray that all of you receive the desires of your heart sometime in your life and that 2 of you bloggers win the DH08 and the Green Home. How fun would that be!
Let’s make a deal….If one of us wins, we have a bloggers reunion in the house before it’s sold or moved into. It would be fun to put faces with all of you.

    Peggy H on June 19, 2007 at 8:04 pm
  31. Dear PEGGY H…Count me in on that deal! I feel the same way about the wonderful blogger friends you mentioned, and I love you all. Wouldn’t it be the greatest thing to meet face to face? If one of us won the DH08, we could have a grand reuion on the beach, the pool, and in the spectacular home that is being built. Don’t know where the Green Home is being built, but if I won it, I would invite you there. Again, THANKS to HGTV for giving us the dreaming, hoping, and love that we pass on.

  34. Howdy dreamer blogging buddies
I sure am glad to be able to blog again. And to hear from everybody. Hello back to all of you who mentioned me I missed you all too! Peggy h. the blogger reunion would be great fun I’m sure or we could all blog to the winner and the winner could blog us from the house on there first visit maybe through hgtvs chat room. I would love to see the house in person too! I’m not sure I could afford to go though But I hope the reunion can Have a cook out in the outdoor kitchen that I hope they are adding. I hope you all are having an awesome summer. Us ky folk. Are scorching for the most part. It’s been hot and dry. Very little rain. Great for summer fun but the yards are looking brown and crunchy under toe. Growing slow. I don’t want to water the grass and waste it. Not that my husband misses his weekly date with the lawnmower. We need a couple days of a soaking rain. And now we are in a moderate drought too. I too checked the site every single day. And thought for sure they had forgotten about us dreaming bloggers. And that they had just quit without a warning. But they wouldn’t do that to us faithful bloggers. I sure do hope one of us bloggers got the magic call or contact about winning the diy best built home sweeps. I don’t know about where you all live but $350,000 can buy alot of land and build a huge house in ky. I pray it was someone who will appreciate such a wonderful gift. I do believe the website said they would have a winner’s list around july 6. If it wasn’t one of us. Please let us know if it’s any of you. So we can congratulate you. We’d love to know what kind of place you pick and where. And see pictures. And if you are open to it we’d give suggestions on decorating. Since we all love it so much. And bloggers how about that million dollar summer to the max sweepstakes. Awesome sweeps!!!!! Thanks a million scripps Now that is a million dollar blessing to someone minus taxes and worth a billion in blessings. I am looking forward to the diy Smoky mountain blog cabin give away coming soon. They are building it now. My family, we vacation there whenever we get a chance to. WE live 3 hours from the smokies. And often make the drive there and back in one day. It’s really alot of fun there. Even when you don’t have much money. And can’t stay, you can still have a good time just watching everything and everybody. Picnic and hike. Shop and Eat. Play and watch plays and Dollywood is fun too! You name it, you can do it there. And sincerely have a wonderful time. I love it at fall “autumn” the mountain colors are just the most beautiful thing you ever saw if you catch them at peak. It will truly let you see what an artist God is with all those colors and trees shining bright in the sunlight. Especially when the leaves/trees has a misty dew or light rain on them. Just the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. At Christmas time everything is all lit up & beautifully decorated. I like it when there is a light snow just gorgeous. We went to dollywood christmas time in 2005 watched the christmas plays Our son was 11 months old in a snowsuit and bundled in blankets in his stroller. All we could see was his little face poking out. It was cold but alot of fun. The traffic is usually congested at fall and christmas. But it’s worth the wait. They have a new by pass thru severeville to pigeon forge & that may slim the congestion some. Haven’t been down since late feb. It wasn’t too busy then. That is a place I would totally love to live. Well I guess I’ll go Can you tell I need a vacation. And I’m wore out. Sorry I bla bla blahhed to long. Good night and God bless you all.

My wife is an Artist and fell in love with the area last year when we visited friends. We should
all be aware that each of us need to help save and protect our enviroment for future generations.Bless you for building Green.

  41. I think the very best thing that you could do for the green home is make it affordable so that whoever wins it could actually live there. I would love to see it built as a straw bale house or cob cottage with a living roof. Remember small is also beautiful and very much a part of being green.

  45. Hi Lisa Barnard……I couldn’t agree with you more. None of us should put TOO much hope in winning anything. I have always worked hard for everything I have and sometimes that which we work hard for breaks down(like my 2002 Mazda 626….don’t ever buy a Mazda). Then I ask God to please give me a break and let something go my way. What I have Learned is that I have so much to be thankful for and sometimes I overlook the obvious. I don’t put alot of hope in winning any of the Dream Homes. I am finding it to be a blessing to get to know all of you. So, please don’t be discouraged about all of this winning or not winning stuff. There is way more to life on this side of heaven. I hope you decide to come back to the blog. We would all miss you and your input. It would be fun to win but it’s not the end all if nothing happens. At any rate I for one am glad that I had the opportunity to get to know you. Hope I didn’t sound too preachy I just want to encourage you to keep in touch. Sincerely Peggy H

  47. Alot of people get bitter and frustrated when they don’t win these dream homes or any of these sweeps. But it is a chance to dream big and would make a difference in your life if you are the lucky one. It’s fun to just dream & get to know others and try to be an encouragement to those you don’t know. Whether you play the sweeps or not. And lisa b. I don’t know what part of lousianna you live in. But I’m for sure I would so want out of there too. And definitely not want to go to another area with the potential for a possible hurricane. Especially after hurricane Katrina and others have showed up in both louisianna and fla. But hey if any one has hurricane preparedness and would know just what to do. It would be you seems to me. And even if you don’t want to live there you should still take the chance to win it, have a nice vacation and sell it. Seems to me any money made on a freebie is a good investment minus those T-A-X-E-S. I’m sure that your home state is still suffering greatly. I do hope that the people of louisianna have used this experience as a way of changing their hearts and minds and make a new beginning and better their home state in heart and soul and make new traditions. Alot of people want new beginnings and now lousianna has a chance to change the bad habits and improve their homes in the poor areas and move their state into a new future. There truly was alot of people who have suffered emotionally more than physically in loosing their homes and backgrounds. Change is hard no matter how it comes about. I pray for you louisianna peoples often. I can’t imagine how hard this hurricane aftermath has been on alot you. If you can’t leave/ don’t win even though you want to. Make your dream come true in a totally different way. In your heart, your attitude. And above all else always keep the faith in knowing that God is there for you. You survived! No matter where you are at in place or in heart. You are a sweet & nice person miss lisa. God bless you always!

  50. Thanks Lelia for pointing out the Blogs info.
Really appreciate it. I along with many were getting quite confused. I will post your message as it may help others.
