  1. Your location is breathtaking. I could only comment that whatever u decide to build will only compliment and not obstruct too much of the wonderful views of Islamorada. Beautiful large windows throughout the house. A spectacular view from the Kitchen,Master Bedroom and Family room.
The key rooms from any home.

  2. I would like to see everything potterybarn and williams sonama, with of course all top of line appliances soft colors, and a john boos island in the huge kitchen with antique wood floors throught out the entire home, coffee glazed maple cabinets, mixed with antigue white cabinets, ledgestone fireplace from floor to ceiling, and of course what would be a dream home without a outdoor kitchen, stainless steele grill with granite countertops with ragged edges so it looks like it came right out of nature. If this sounds like something you would enjoy having call me I will be happy to design.

  3. I think the Dream Home should be decorated in a Moroccan themed-style with a dash of Carribean influences.

    J.Kilgore on August 15, 2007 at 7:48 pm
  4. I think it’s great that all the past dream homes have been luxurious and something that most families could never afford to purchase on their own. However, I think that at lest one dream home should be built with a family of more than four and possibly with small children in mind. I have four children, two of them are on the young side, and while I have loved the past dream homes, I thought most of them were kind of impractical for a family with small children or with more than two kids.

  5. How about an original American home . . . a log cabin with a loft and maybe updated, wood burning stove, front porch overlooking a pond with ducks. Lots of trees around and maybe sloping hills? Not too elaborate, but such a nice remembrance of our beginnings in the USA.

Jo Ann D. on August 16, 2007 at 1:16 pm
  6. Ultra modern with themed kids rooms and all the latest gadgets from “I want that.” Beauty and color with elegance and class. Granite counter tops, cherry wood cabinets, wood floors. Lots of natural wood throughout.

  7. I think that there should be a huge pool with a huge water slide and a diving board and an outdoor kitchen. Also, a kitchen ecspecially for kids to cook in. There should be a huge bowling alley, and alot of arcade games. Also there should be a huge waterfall. There should be a small section in the yard with a small pond and a hammock beside it with palm tree. Also a great security system, with a maid, and a butler. With an indoor spa in every bathroom. And five laptops. There would be a chute to drop your dirty clothes in. And a slide from your room to the bowling alley. A flat screen TV in every room. The house should be able to stand hurricanes, tornadoes, fire ,and lightning. And last but not least a golf course, and a tennis court, and a huge stage.

  8. Purple or Yellow

  9. Well i think i’d have to have it all decked out in white. It would need to have lots of candles in most of the rooms. It would be great if it were situated in Newzealand and run on solar power with plenty of gadgets all around to make life easy. Does that sound lazy? I’d like a bed that by remote raises you to a half laid back position and a huge tv screen on the bedroom wall. Tv screens in most other rooms also. I’d like that linked up to a pc so that i could watch free sky and watch tv online whenever i wanted to.

  10. A LITTLE LIGHTHOUSE OUT SIDE THE HOUSE AND HINTS OF THE OLDMAN OF THE SEA PRINTS,,TALLSHIPS ,GLASS FLOATERS +TIFFANY LAMPS.THAT WOULD BE VERY COMFORTING.

patty on August 21, 2007 at 10:03 am
  11. I would decorate in cool blues and greens with touches of yellow and white. All furniture should be traditional or country French.

Jacquelyn Davis on August 23, 2007 at 10:52 pm
  12. Since every past dream home has been calm but beautiful interior, I think they should mix it up a bit and design the interiors of the next dream home in bright and fun colors. When you wake up, you feel joyous and happy. You can create this look and make it not tacky by incorporating neutrals. It will be a challenge, but the result would be magnificent!

Michelle on August 24, 2007 at 12:33 pm
  13. It really doesn’t matter since none of the winners keep the home. Might as well make it a style that will sell to people rich enough to afford it.

Lindalee Stuckey on August 25, 2007 at 6:10 pm
  14. I’D GO WITH SOMETHING LIKE SHABBY…LOTS OF WHITES, PINKS AND FLORAL..FEMME,WITH ALOT OF SHELLS…AND ALOT OF BEACH HATS..
    KATSBACK..

  15. A simple little cottage with lots of the native american touches , a water heater that doesnt take up alot of space and of course gardening space for herbs and canning veggies and lets not forget the shade trees that could provide food and homes for nature …… a front porch to enjoy the gentle breezes and the magnificent sun rises and sunsets the key word is restoring life to the simple ways providing your own food and having enough for the animals to enjoy as well to get the kids back out in the air and enjoy the things that we all enjoyed when we were young

audrey on August 26, 2007 at 10:07 am
  16. I think a natural modern with wood planks on the the exterior and bright vived colors with red, tan, and blue walls with black granite counter tops and butcher block island cheery cabinets stainless steal appliences rock fire place with wood mantel on the rock 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths 3 car garage on the side of house 3 stories 5,000 sqft or 4,000 sqft natural wood floors deck nothing absolutely stuffed with stuff that is like a pool like who would want to get their dream home and then half to clean the pool every week but I am only a kid and this is for Washington state

  17. I am in the prosess of designing my husband and my main home for the second time.

The first time we thought we needed a formal living and dining area. We soon learned that we had too much house. 4000 sq ft.

Our next home will have a great room. Yes our family has grown with in-laws and grandchildren, but our home will be built around our needs not the extended family.

We will have an extra bedroom and a study/guestroom with one of those beautiful murphy beds that are being built now.

We have a lot on a river so we will have a sunset tower over the bar that extends onto the entertainment patio.

Build for you not for others. When you clean your own house less is more.

  18. I would like to see the house look cool and contemporary. With some punches of hot color like red and spicey oranges. Easy to keep furnishings and not to many things cluttering up the rooms. Just put in what’s needed to live. And keep the outside full of color with flowering trees and potted plants all around.

AnneMarie on August 29, 2007 at 8:33 pm
  19. Please no blue. Just look out and see lots of blue. For a comfortable romantic contrast try a warm gold with brown and add some silver green a light accent with some bolder colors coral/red and turquoise in a huge wall picture, put a sheer drape in gold and silver green and/or with dark brown covering an inside opening pair of brown shutter doors. Bedding in a rich gold brown.

  20. The floors should all be wood except for the bathrooms. Tile should be used in those areas. The walls would look wonderful in wide sawmilled planks. The countertops would look wonderful in granit. All interior doors should be handmade again out of wood with oldfashioned door knobs or wooden knobs that turn to latch. The refrigerator should look like wood, the stove top hidden as well as kitchen faucets. Cabinets should be glass. Between the kitchen and dining room should be cabinets and drawers accessible from both sides to allow easy table setting and to store dishes, glasses, and silverware (the way it was done long ago. The porch posts naturally would be massive large wooden posts. The porch ofcourse should sport two rocking chairs and a porch swing. It should have a porch that extends around to one side the entire width. There should be a shed structure to park two vehicles near an entrance with pavers to the front and back entrance. All lighting should reflect the antique time period using chandeliers, brass, and iron. A log home is built for the traditional and oldfashioned minded. It is a frame of mind and lifestyle not just building materials

  21. I would like to see some blues and gray(BOLD) in some of the room. Earth tones are nice but i think that the blues will make it good and NOT A LOT OF THE SMALL ITEMS and figurines because if someone has small children these things might get broken. i love to read so maybe a place where can have a lot so books stored since we have tons of books in my home we have run out of places whereto put them My color are blue cream and gray with oak or cherry wood for the furniture.

Alveria gaddis on September 2, 2007 at 5:43 am
  22. This home sounds wonderful and there is nothing like looking at the Ocean to make life great. Please use apple green in the Master Bedroom, king size bed dark wood, sleigh, and fluffy pillows and comforter in white white white. Traditional furniture throughout please. No ruffles please. Great Kitchen with cherry cabinets and wood floors throughout.

  23. Hi this is my 1st time on this site – I will share my dream home idea with you – I’d have to say it would have to be in MN b/c thats where i was born and raised and where my son attends school—My dream house would not have to be extravagant but Stylish- I dream about a California style home in a Mid West town -It could happen!!!And if HGTV ever wants to experiment with it I know a little 11 year old boy and a Mama that would love it!!!!

Shannon on September 5, 2007 at 1:24 pm
  24. You need to make the furniture warm and homey so you don’t feel like your in some one home that you are scared to sit down in and have a nice visit. Make it feel likes its your home for everyone.

Juanell M Edwards on September 7, 2007 at 6:34 pm
  25. I would strongly encourage the designer to design the interior in art deco/streamline-moderne right out of the 30′s. Miami has some great art deco interiors to compare and look for ideas.

Philip L. Davidson on September 7, 2007 at 11:13 pm
  26. This is my first time on this sight, so i am not sure if i m aon time or not. But my idea of a perfect home would be lots of large windows, slidding glass doors that open up to green outdoor setting areas.

  27. You inspire me a lot because you have very special people on your website and also Vern Yip too. I want a my dream house to be a huge family welcoming warm feeling to it so when you walk threw that door you feel like family.I want my room to have a Hawaiin feeling to it so that when I walk threw that door i feel loved and just like a freakof nature. My likes baseball a lot and i think that he would like a room with a lot of baseball meaning to it. My mom and dad both likea combonation of hawaiin for my mom but then my dadlikes hunting a lot and that would make it a challenged for me to think of what to do in thier rooms. my name is Renae Chriss i am 11 years old and love to desighnstuff i am in 6 grade right now and i live in PrescottValley ,arizona.

  28. I’m hoping Kim wins Design Star as I would like her to decorate my dreamhouse if I won the contest. I would like a Lake House motif, rustic and mariner combination. I would give Kim free reign to decorate.

  29. I am just a Old Country Gal. I guess I would have my home done up in Country and Country Colors. Well I just might leave it up to HGTV I think they do a great job. auntbea

  30. I would love to see most of the rooms in a very light blue – the color of the ocean. Maybe because blue incorporates the sky and the ocean also and this color brings everything together.

Sue Philbeck on September 12, 2007 at 2:35 pm
  31. Several ideas come to mind, but my main two ideas would be to decorate the house by using feng shui, but also use contemporary furniture with modern art. Yes… that can be done all you have to do is use your imagination

  32. Hello everyone. I was wondering if there will be something built into this 2008 Dream Home for the disabled. I sure hope so. I have just got to let you all know that the pics are neat, and looks like you are coming right along. Thanks everyone. abumgarner

  33. My birthday is in three days and my wish is to spend many, many happy days with my family in my MyDreamHome. My little daughter’s BD is in six days and her wish is to play in the sand and ocean of her DreamHome. Thank you for making our wishes come true.

  34. I love the Dream homes each year. However, The taxes puts the Dream Home out of living in it. WHY
not give away 10 $200,000 homes so average person can keep a Dream Home

Karen on October 6, 2007 at 4:44 pm
  35. I agree with Karen. As much as we would love to win such an amazing prize, how many of us are really financially able to keep it if we won it!
If I won it, I would want to live in it all year round! Thanks for sharing the “dream” even if I don’t win it!!!

Linda on October 18, 2007 at 10:24 am
  36. I think the dream home should be decorated totally Tommy Bahama. That “islandy” feel throughout with rich dark wood but a bright and airy feel to the room. I hope to be in it. That is my dream!

Linda on October 18, 2007 at 11:24 am
  37. Oh my, what a wonderful place to have a dream home! Just watching the videos of the surrounding area is relaxing. I just can’t imagine waking up to it every morning. A girl can dream. The inside should feel like it just flows into the outside and like it is a part of the natural surroundings. Like it was pulled right out of the ground and has always been there. Thank you for giving us all a chance at winning a home like this. Pandora

Pandora MacDonald on October 19, 2007 at 9:03 pm
  38. The mountains of Montana. A nice log house overlooking a fresh water lake for a change. All rustic. That would be a house to remember.

Sue Grissom on October 23, 2007 at 6:42 am
  39. I think they do a very good job with the dream homes until Linda does her “finishing touches” because myself the first thing i would have to do is have a yard sale to empty the space i would need to have for my own things like photos and nick-naks i’ve collected over the years

fred on October 26, 2007 at 1:48 am
  40. 1 big designing problems I’ve seen is this. in any any of the blog homes to. its disturbing that there NO Handicap entrances or anything. seems as if no one cares, Hey theres people like me that are an in a power wheel chair. how would i get into the house an all? also theres not elevator inside to be able to go upstairs. can this be implemented yet? i really hope so. but i guess this totally depends on the people there even reads anything there. what could be done, in regards to this,in short times. hey i only ask this encase. there’s a winner an or already picked. as i don’t win things as is.. SADLY

CC Stevenson on January 2, 2008 at 11:09 am
  41. With all the designers currently with shows on HGTV, why not have a contest for designing the 2009 dream home? Let the country decide! Or, have each designer take on a part of the home. Personally, I’d love to see Candice Olsen do the house! The previous designer needs a break (and we need one from her).

Mike on June 16, 2008 at 11:51 am
  42. I believe a warm cozy house full of love would be a great home for anyone no matter where it’s built or who is doing the builing,I figure you have guessed I’m no designer, but my hearts in the right place.
