  4. Fcole & company: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!! Floor plans at last !!! I’ve had a personal trauma to deal with this week so this good news comes as a welcome relief. The pictures on HGTVpro.com are so exciting. You are so far along on what will become the most beautiful Dream Home yet. The picture of rhe sea through the windows was awesome as was the sunset photo. I think I would never leave that porch.
Now the REAL dreaming begins. Happy dreams to all. Can’t wait for tomorrow. Thanks again HGTV.

  7. Hi fcole…

Looking forward to the floor plans. I love, love, love floor plans. In my youth, I used to draw floor plans to describe to my grandmother what our current home looked like (we moved often.) And in college, a friend and I used to draw floor plans for our future dream homes.

In any case, I drew the floor plans for the vacation home my parents are currently building on the beach in Panama. (Regarding that, I have a question for you, fcole, below) The property is a very nice site with beautiful views too. It’s been a long two years in the making and we are getting closer to completion. In Panama construction is quite different and “manana” doesn’t really mean tomorrow. There’s been a lot of compromising on our part. Based on things we’ve learned from experience we would have made a better choice of architect and builder. But I also started drawing new floor plans that would in my mind solve some of the issues that came up… if only I knew then. My mind is always thinking in terms of solving problems. In the course of building, I also had to supply drawings for built-in closets, walk-in closets, an entertainment center, bathroom cabinets, tile layouts, wrought iron design layout, and also other space-planning and design decisions. Everything is custom made and hand-crafted.

It’s been quite a challenge. I loved doing the drawings and making the design decisions. In working with a career coach recently, who tested my innate abilities, I’ve learned I have all the natural abilities and a real knack for this.

So my question, fcole, is – can any of the HGTV Dream Home architects or builders give me advice on how to expand on my experience? (I’m in my mid-forties and looking for a career change.) Can anyone point me in a good direction?

    Thanks!!

P.S. I loved the Lake Lure house – great design. Looking forward to seeing the Islamorada plans.

  8. It would be so perfect if the HGTV Dream Home 08 would start it’s message board again.
The HGTV Green Home message board is open and has been for some time. The Green Home is still waiting to find out what city it will be built in. It is a known fact it will be in the state of South Carolina. The HGTV Dream Home has known for some time it’s location, building is in full swing and we are about to get the floorplans. All that is missing is the Dream Home message board. What do you say? Crank this Dream Home up another notch.

  9. You chose the best place in the US for a Dream Home. Have seen it in pictures and off shore. This weekend, we will get to see more progress since we are going to our condo in Islamorada for the long weekend.

Will their be tours available at some point??

  11. I see the floor plans of the 2008 dream house already. Why the kid room in the first floor? The will be more close to the relative in the second floor (guest room). The easy way is to eliminate the two closets in the entry way between the garage and the entertainment room and that will create a hall to connect all the spaces, and move the guest room to the first floor (kid’s room). The guest can enjoy the patio and the beach front view.

  12. I would build my dream house in the ozark Mountains of Arkansas.

  13. I love the floor plans!!! The only thing that concerns me is the kids room on the first floor, but hey that can be changed easily enough. There is a lot of storage. You need the extra storage for life in the keys. Not necessarily for clothes so much, but everything else. I love it!!!!

  14. Awesome floor plans – Perfect location. It’s truly everything a dream home should be at least to us with a family that loves fishing & tennis. I love the sun and am an artist. The views are beautiful. Can’t wait to sea the decorating.~

  15. I would build my dreamhouse in Wold Point, Montana. We have a house there but it was built in the 50′s. Bedrooms are upstairs but it hurts my knees to climb them also it has no bathroom so I have to go up & down the stairs all night.

  16. I love it but not sure about the kids bedroom being downstairs 1st floor. LOL we all know kids right I think I would make that the guest room and move the kids to the 2nd floor.. Although not having any children at home ours are all married and have grandchildren it would not matter.. The house is just beautiful I love the floor plan not one thing is missing.. One could not ask for anything more that I can think of.. Great Job.. A home like that who where care where you won it. I would take it right where it is, even though I have never been to the Keys of Florida ..

  17. Looking at the floor plan, is the kitchen on the second level? Do you have to take all of your groceries up stairs?

  19. Being a three story home. I could not find an elevator. Is there one? If not is there provisions so one could easily be added. A closet type that went from the ground floor up to the third floor. Eventually one will be needed as people grow older unless they just sell and move.
