Special HGTV Green Home Update: You’re Choosing the Color!
What color should we paint the first HGTV Green Home? There are three possibilities for the home currently being built in South Carolina, and the choice is up to you! Have a look at the color schemes and vote in the poll. We’ll keep the poll going for three weeks, so you can vote once a day until Oct. 12.
Remember, we’re talking about the first HGTV Green Home, not HGTV Dream Home 2008 that’s being built in the Florida Keys.

I love the pictures I really hope that’s what the house is going to look like, I’m voting for the yellow, But by the look of what the other bloogers are voting for I think is going to be the olive green. Anyway all the choices look great.
Thank you for bringing us this spectacular green home! I’m torn between the green and yellow for the exterior color. They both look tremendous!
I’ve picked olive color it is just beautiful!!!! Please post more information on how and when we can enter this sweepstake, This house is different and quite interesting thanks
I would like to know how to enter the
Dream Home Contest, please.
I think the prescott green will be beautiful on this style home. Hilton Head, SC is a wonderful place. I'm from the Carolina's and would like to know when this giveaway will begin. Thank you
I love the new Dream Home. My husband and I have been in residential construction for 15 years and we have built and/or remodeled well over 100 homes for others in Georgia, Florida and Virginia. I cannot tell you the hours we have spent on our knees laying ceramic tile floors and painting! While I am happy for all the homeowners we have helped, I would dearly love to have my own house — somewhere I can put to use my interior design skills and not have to worry about ever moving again. It is my dream to one day build or own are own home. I watch HGTV daily just to get ideas about home interiors. This is the first year I plan to enter the contest. We have thought about moving to Florida to be near family, especially the grandchildren. HGTV bloggers, pray that I win this home! It will be an answer to prayer! Love y’all!
i am new to computer . please tell me how to enter to win the new dream home.
The pale green with the right trim color, will make this house fabulous
My vote is the pale green. Being on the shore I thought a lighter color would look better. The yellow just seems too bright in the picture for the shore. I do like the olive, we’ve used it in our house as well as the outside trim. The porch/entrance looks really nice in the pictures. I’ll be watching the progress!
I was torn also between the olive and yellow, after thinking about the location of the home I picked the yellow! This house will be like the sun in the blue skies!
If I were to win it and live it in, I would prefer the yellow because that means sunshine to me!
It is a beautiful home, I can’t wait to see it finished!
It is really hard to decide on the color because they are all beautiful.
This is an amazing start to a beautiful home!!
I am definitely in favor of the green color for the exterior, it reinforces the “green” concept behind the design. Hopeefully this will inspire others!
I had to pick the Olive Green as my first choice.
All colors are really nice. 2nd choice pale green and third is yellow!
I say green for the green house.
The house looks wonderful.I just have a problem with picture #7.It is of space that is 2 stories high, with doors on the bottom and 4 windows in a row on the top half.Where in the dream house is this area?????I cannot work it out from the floor plans.
Thanks,can’t wait for more pics.
I live in fl I have been watching the blog cabin and am really excited to see the blog fl, I love the olive green will tivo the shows so I won’t miss a thing
I have looked at the floor plans and have one concern, the kids bedroom is 2 floors from the master, great for noise but what are you doing for parents peace of mind for fire safety, no one wants to not be able to get to their kids in case of fire
I vote for the yellow – this beautiful home deserves bright cheerful sunshine!
Pale green looks so fresh and alive like springtime, although all the colors are beautiful, but I vote pale green.Karen Grafton Reidsville, NC
Olive green would be great! Can’t wait to see it finished. We will keep watching and waiting!!!!!!!
I was wondering when and if tours will be available for the dream home in Islamorada. We live in Florida and we are hoping a tour will be available soon.
I have looked at the plans and chose yellow for the house.Yellow would make this house pop against the bright blue shy. I love this new house. They have out done themselves again this year. I cant wait for the contest to start. Good luck to all.
Hi all. I run past the Dream Home in the mornings and have been able to see the progression. The blue with yellow shutters is a shock but the house still looks like a dream. Good job, HGTV.
I would pick the olive over just about any color, not just of the three options. And I’m not sure if I have to adjust my monitor or not; that shade of yellow looks horrible!
FCOLE: Was it wise of you to post a notice about the Green Home color choices on the Dream Home blog? As you now see from the many posts that some are referring to the Dream Home instead of the Green Home. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to just direct the bloggers to “go to the Green Home blog to choose their color choice? I know, “hind sight” and all that because I’ve been there myself many times. I’m so excited about both of these homes I’m dreamimg overtime. I only wish I could see the “floor plans” of the Green Home as some of the bloggers think they have. Thanks again, HGTV. You are the greatest.
I love the Olive color on the house. Going green so why not Olive! It really jumps out at you. Really Bold!
I’m voting for yellow. It is a cheerful color that would look good by the water. In my opinion, it’s difficult for me to invision an olive green home on the shores. I’m also thinking of the future and how people will view an olive green color in the years to come. Yellow seems stylish and always remains a trend whereas the other colors are trends and don’t always remain stylish.
Definately the yellow!!!
I love pale yellow with black shutters……
How do I enter the sweepstakes.
Everyone have a blessed life.
i think that hg has always made the challenge look easy so hats off to them. i think they will get it right again this year.
Olive! Gotta be olive! Beautiful!
when can we start entering the contest???
i can’t wait!
I want and need this home so bad. I would give it to my mom and Dad who are in their 60′s and live in their own home with my sister and her 3 kids for the past 6 yrs. They need some rest and relaxation. Please dear lord let my Mom and Dad win. Dorothy and Darrell. And I wish all the best to all the other contestants. But I have to pray for my parents, they have given most of their money throughout their life to others who are less fortunate and have now had my ex brother in law steal money from their acct. I can only hope this could be theirs. They so deserve this.
I can’t believe you all are installing that HIDIOUS dark floor in the 2007 Dream House. That is so NOT Florida or the Florida Keys. You should have used a light bamboo flooring. That would have been fabulous, economical and good for the environment, not to mention it would have made the rooms look larger. God forbid that you put dark brown cabinets in the kitchen.
yellow is beautiful
Olive, but why not natural wood look?
I think a celery green or blue to match the water would be good for this hgtv house…just love watching it be built
Olive.. most definitely Olive. Love the house! Good luck to all and to myself ofcourse
I would like the outside color more towards a “very pale” terra color. It would offset all the green and blue of the ocean.
If I were the winner of the new home, I would wish that all the painting and decorating would be done after the winner was chosen.
It then would be completely a “home” of the person living in it rather the “taste” of the decorator. Of course, one always wishes…..
I think it should be a nice turquoise to off set the ocean and the blue and yellow already on the house!!
I have no idea why everyone who is blogging picked olive green. It is the ugliest color ever!
Colors from coral reefs are ideal.
I vote for Yellow with Black Shutters that would be very attractive
I lived in Islamorada from the time I was 8 until I graduated from the Univ. of Miami. Now I live in Atlanta. My Mother retired from the real estate business in Islamorada about 20 years ago and moved to Atlanta. I have such wonderful memories of Islamorada, growing up there and then sharing it with my own children. the pictures on this site are pulling on my heart strings. Does the name Albright have anything to do with Jimmy Albright, fishing guide? He was one of my Father’s closest friends.
A sand color might be good
I love the floor plans of the home. WOW!!! three levels…what a view of the ocean. All the colors are great for the house but I like the light green better. I love the Keys. I was there once and the area is beautiful. You couldn’t have done it any better than this. I can say this beats all the other HGTV homes you have built.
I vote for olive green. Green for the Green-Dream Home. What a peaceful, natural setting!! I would not do anything shocking to take away from that incredible ocean view. HD-Great Job, as usual!!!

I am torn between the olive and green colors…they both would be really pretty. They seem to be more of a natural shade opposed to the yellow. That area is beautiful!!!
I think that the brighter the colors the better. I have been to the Florida keys a couple of times, and the homes that stand out the most are of brighter color. No matter what color is chosen, they couldn’t have picked a more beautuiful place to build.
I think the house is beautiful just as it is, however olive is such a natural and earthly color I do think it would look better. Altho I can’t imagine anyone abjecting to whatever color the designers come up with, because to win something of this magnitude, would be a blessing indeed, especially for someone who otherwise would never experience this dream of a lifetime.
