Share Your Photos From the Florida Keys!

The online tour of this year’s HGTV Dream Home is coming in just a few short weeks, but YOU can get involved now! This year we’ve got two ways you can share photos and videos and be a part of HGTV Dream Home 2008.

Have you taken a trip to the Florida Keys? Then upload photos or videos from your trip and show us why Islamorada is the perfect place for an HGTV Dream Home.

You can also show us YOUR idea of a dream home! Maybe it’s a sprawling mansion, maybe it’s a small mountain cabin. Whatever the size or style, share your photos or videos and tell us why it’s your idea of a dream home.

And remember, the HGTV Dream Home 2008 online tour debuts the first week of December. This year’s tour will be better than ever, with 360-degree views of every room, design tips, exclusive videos and much more.

And best of all, starting Jan. 1, 2008, you can enter for a chance to win the home in the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway. It’s a grand prize package worth more than $2.2 million!

  2. Hi, I have enter every contest since 1999 every day. This is the best house I think you have ever done. We use to live in Nassau County FL for 3 yr but we have been married 50 years this June and have never owned a home. My husband is retiring in 08 from being a farmer for someone else all his life. We have no retirement plan but SS> I love the ocean and have never visited the Keys. Our children have all got to travel but we always stayed on the farm. We lost our only son in 04 and he was a fisherman even though he was handicapped, he would have loved having a place like this. We have four daughter all grown. I love the style of this house and the color scheme and you don’t know how much I have always wanted a home of my own. Yours truly, Judy

  3. The HGTV Homes are absolutely fabulous and this is one of the very best. It is so wonderful to have this opportunity to have all these people as well as myself, dream of owning such a wonderful place on earth.

Happy New Year everyone and maybe one of us will be the truly luckly person of the year.

Dreams do come true, so continue dreaming for this home is one to truly dream about.

  4. HMMMM, Every year many evacuations due to hurricanes, $40,000+ property taxes, god only knows how much homeowners Insurance will be(have to go with the State provided Ins no one else will insure that area)My opinion not a good location, so many other beautiful locations in Florida without the dangers of the KEYS.

  15. I live in TN but my heart will always be in Florida. My husband and I grew-up in Miami and have many fond memories of South Florida and the Florida Keys. BTK (before the kids), we spent many a vacation and get-aways there, and would absolutely love the opportunity of returning to Florida to live on Islamorada (Spanish for purple island). That house would get a great deal of use by our families and friends visiting us often. I can see myself driving a few minutes to one of our favorite restuarants, Horizons, at Holiday Isle. Perhaps making a daily ritual of fishing in the morning for my lunch, after having my coffee and toast at breakfast. One can only wish.

  16. We have vacationed in the Carribean several times and would love to live in this beautiful home on a permanent basis. This is as close to paradise as one can imagine. Once again, HGTV outdid themselves.

  17. I grew up in Marathon on Vaca Key, my parents got married in Marathon and had their honeymoon in Islamorada on March 9th, 1968. My mother passed away in August of 1999. She would have loved this. It would be a dream come true to win the Dream House 2008. I feel connected to this house because of my mother.

  18. Islamorada is just beautiful..I have been swimming in her waters. It is peaceful, serene and life seems to stand still and remind you of what is important. The name “Islamorada” means purple island.
In 1985, when my children were 7,5 and 1, I grew disallusioned with Brooklyn and moved us all down to Big Pine Key about a half-hour further south down into the keys than Islamorada. Life was idyllic.
We stayed for about a year, when our youth and meager finances prodded our move back up north.

Leaving the Keys and the Keys way of life has always been a regret for us all…my children go down there occasionally and have always wished they had grown up down there. I still play with the idea several times a week. It’s that good.

It is a cool place..it was a fantastic idea to build a dream home in Islamorada..my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw where you were building.

Well, now my whole much bigger family is entering your contest daily..what a dream! What a wonderful circle of life winning this dream home would be! I can picture the grandbabies running in the beautiful calm blue water right now:)

I grew up vacationing on Big Pine Key, my grandparents had a house there and for the past 3 years my family and I have gone down to Key West for a couple weeks each summer. There isn’t any place better! The beach, sun, parasailing, fishing, snorkling, scootering, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would give anything to actually have a house in the Keys! 23. My Husband proposed to me in Mallory Square at sundown and we were married on Rumruner Island in Islamorada. We also vacation twice a year in the Keys. I always tell my husband that we can not move from Miami, FL because I need to get Keys Disease. The Keys is the perfect place and this is a dream home.

  24. I lived in the Florida Keys from May 2005 through May 2006. I was from New Jersey and only there for 6 months when Hurricane Wilma swept through. I had lost everything and just wanted out of there. Now that I have been gone for awhile I remember why it was I went there in the first place. I miss it terribly and so does my husband and children. It is a beautiful place and the people are all very wonderful. We still have our friends there. You just have to prepare yourself for Mother Nature.

  26. I was stationed at the naval base in Key West in 1968 and the Truman house was part of the base. I walked by it whenever I went off base to have a cold one in town. On my trips home for the weekend driving the old seven mile bridge with a greyhound bus coming in the other direction was an eye opener. Many years later my family and I enjoyed camping and boating in the keys. If you go the keys try to visit John Penekamp underwater state park.

  27. I NEVER BEEN IN THE KEY, BUT ONE DAY I GO. I LIVE IN ORLANDO BUT MY DREAM WOULD BE LIVE IN FRONT OF THE BEACH LIKE THAT HOUSE.

  28. Regardless of what everyone else says, we would be the ultimate choice to win this house! It would create justice in the world and peace throughout the universe. My wife grew up in Key Largo and we both know how to spell Islamorada correctly.

  29. My husband and I vacationed with his family at the Banana Bay Resort in Marathon, Fl. in July 2007. The resort was one of the best resorts we ever stayed at in the keys. I can’t wait to go back.

  30. I would absolutley be delighted to live my dream in a dream home that has always been what would have been my dream home. The ocean has always been what proves to me “there is GOD”. Only a few times in my life have we been able to splurge and take a vacation to the beach. It is absolutely perfect to just sit and view the glory of peace that only the water can provde for me. It would be an added bonus to actually have a home, beautifully furnished in this prime location to make life whole. THink of the people you could share this miracle with. Not just family but I work as a nurse with juveniles who have never even had their own bed much less a chance to see one of God’s beautiful creations such as a beach. I would love to see some of their faces as the gazed at a beach for the first time and slept as my guest in that comfortable childrens room dreaming of the day they just spent frolicking in the sand an water and of the memories they could carry forever with them of a chance in a life time. Winning this particular home might even make up for not winning the home which was in Rosemary Beach Florida.. Dreams do come true!!!!

  32. I’ve been visiting the Keys since 1969. It’s my first place on Earth to spend leisure time. I have a 19 year old son with brain cancer 5 times now. IF I win this dream house I will give it to my son to enjoy the time he has and let him find his happiness like I’ve found mine in the Florida Keys. AMEN!!!!

  34. My husband and I love the Keys so much that we finally decided after 12 years that we wanted to be married on the beach at sunset. We return every year and promise that this is where we will retire someday and move our wedding photography business to the keys area. Last year in March I was diagnosed with MS and that was a big shock to both of us and our families because we are such an active couple, we love to snorkle in the keys, take our boat out for that beautiful sunset cruise, set on the beach and soak up that wonderful Florida sun, so living in Florida and starting our business would truly fulfull both of our dreams.

  35. My husband Rick and I live in Lexington Kentucky it’s beutiful here, but we love the Keys so much that we finally decided after 12 years of working together that we wanted to be married in Key West on the beach at sunset. We return nearly ever year and promise that this is where we will retire someday and move our wedding photography business to the Keys area. Last year in March I was diagnosed with MS and it came as big shock to both of us and our families(I’m on meds. and doing excellent) because we are such an active couple, and plan to stay as active as possible, we love to snorkle in the keys, we love to go on cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, Virgin Islands, take our boat out for that family and friend fun cruises around Laurel Lake (in KY), set on the beach and soak up that wonderful Florida sun, so living in Florida and starting our business would truly fulfull both of our dreams. The HGTV Dream home would be our dream come true. My home now is in tropic motif all palm trees sand colors, everyone knows what we love! Even when we add to our deck last year of course I added lots of palm trees!!!(fake of course wrong weather for real trees) Our Children and Families would enjoy this home for decades to come. We have already pictured our first large family reunion together weeks together, laughing, boating, fishing, swimming, and just think of all the pictures I can add to our dream tropical paradise. I can only hope that maybe my son or daughter (ages 24 and 22) would someday have a beautiful formal sunset beach wedding. What more could a mother ask for than maybe a beautiful grandchild playing in the sand a few years later!!

Teresa on February 4, 2008 at 11:38 am
  36. The HGTV Dream Home is spectacular !!! This would be perfect for me and my family. We love the beach, and my dream is to live by the water. The house has beautiful colors, and it really came all together! This would be a dream come true! My son is 5 and would love playing outside, and enjoying everything in this house. It would be great to have my extended family coming to visit ! Great memories just waiting to happen!!!

My grandaughter has never been to the ocean …She is also one of GODS gifts as long as he lets us keep her we will cherish her forever…
Maybe a chance at winning this house is our answer…Who Knows…

I have lived in florida for the past 12 years and i have vacationed down to the keys many times and everytime i vacation down there i never want to leave. 39. I live in the middle of Queens! I have never been out of here besides the outer boroughs. This years house is beautiful as all the others! We rent an apartment with our 3 small children. Getting a house in todays market is not even in our minds right now! I have been following these sweepstakes since I had my first child 8 years ago. Only when i had a kid did I start thinking about a home of our own. Since it’s almost impossible for us to buy i figured why not enter these contest. I see that only people with houses already win. Hopefully one year it can be a family that actually needs the space even if it’s not us. Winning a home no matter where it is would be a dream come true! Keep on making those beautiful dream homes!! They are Awesome!
