  1. Does anyone know what is going on with the – what looks like – empty lots on each side of the house?

  2. My husband and I were visiting our favorite place, Islamorada in October, found “our” future dream home location, and wished so much we could have toured it; however, the film crew was there, so we had to unfortunately scurry away. So, please, take a tour, and observe this beautiful home that will be ours one day. We would love to share the beauty and tranquility of this home that will one day be the home of all of our fishing rods! Love the colors! Love the floors. Love the location! For a family that loves the Keys, especially Islamorada, fishing, and the relaxed and friendly town that homes this home, all I can say, is WELCOME HOME KERRI & WESS!!!!!!!!!

  8. Sorry, I won’t be able to get to tour the Dream Home in person, but hope many will. FCOLE AND COMPANY; Please give us a SURPRISE on Jan. 1st and tell us there is a DUMB WAITER. Not for just taking laundy and groceries up, but also for taking prepared foods down. I picture myself making salads and baked beans, while down below the grill is heating for hotdogs, burgers, chicken or the fresh caugh fish. We will dine on that beautiful patio furiture and watch the sunset. Love the diversity of the bloggers. Some love the DH, some hate it, colors too abrasive, some too bland. But I really love the comments from the Floridians: building codes, high elevation, insurnce, taxes, but most of them really know the Keys. I love Islamorada. Good Luck to all who would love to win this Dream Home. May it be a very Happy New Year for one of us. Just dreamin’ .

  9. My wife and I visit the Keys often from our Miami home. Not sure exactly where the dream home is located but I can tell you that Islamorada is really, really nice. We often take our two young boys to feed the tarpon at Robbie’s, have pan seared snapper at Key Largo’s Fish house etc. The dream home would be real nice to have.

Anthony on December 26, 2007 at 8:56 pm
  10. WOW, that is truely a DREAM home! Growing up in Miami and making the drive to the Keys as a kid , that is the kind of house I always dreamed of…what a great place for a my family and son to grow up in!
Ahhh, I should be so lucky!

  12. Thanks for allowing 100% of the tour proceeds to go to the florida keys children’s shelter. It’s wonderful to know that you are helping the children of the community!

  13. To the person who asked what was up with the empty lots on either side of the house . . . They are going to be filled with other houses. It’s all part of a planned community. Visit the developer’s website and you can see what it will look like when finished.

  14. I’ve read through all the bloggers comments HGTV and hope you took notes this year. This is the most negative feedback I’ve seen on the Dream Home. You were on the right track in the past, by building something special, but this house feels like a condo. This house can’t be bigger than 2000 square feet and really is a mess. Someone described the house as open and airy???? This house is chopped into 3 floors of small rooms, and I don’t think refridgerator should be in such a small space….can you say SAUNA ROOM. I will enter, even if I don’t like the home. I can sell the house and build my own dream home, as someone noted earlier “we all have our different idea of a dream home.” Good luck to all and Happy New Year!!!

We live in the mountains of Pennsylvania where we get about 2 months of summer weather each year. The thought of being able to swim year round has the children so excited ! “It’s Great”

  19. These lots will be developed with additional homes (see the “Shores at Islamorada” link under “Property.” It will show you what homes are to be built and that your bay view will be greatly diminished when buildout is completed. This assumes that the builder stays solvent and completes the project, including the amenities (pool, boat dock). Also note that annual property taxes will be around $15,000 annually. Give it some thought.

Roger on December 27, 2007 at 9:13 pm
  20. I think the house is ravishing. While looking at it, I thought to myself: “There is no need for me to even attempt to enter for a chance to win.

If I did win, I could not even afford to pay the taxes.

Deborah L Chopra on December 27, 2007 at 10:48 pm

  22. My husband and I visit the Keys every winter and love it . Whoever wins this home will be in heaven .

Carol on December 28, 2007 at 7:28 am
  23. They are lots. There is going to be homes on both sides. The dream home is at the bottom of a “U” shape.

Kim Rose on December 28, 2007 at 7:44 am
  24. As usual, HGTV has outdone themselves. Great
    programs. We watch daily.
We have tried in the past to visit a dream home
only to find them already occupied or too late
for the tour, etc. Our timing this year will be
great. We will be in Florida the month of
February. Will definately plan on visit to
    home. Is there any cost?

Shirley Peters on December 28, 2007 at 11:36 am
  25. Brian, the other lots are going to be what looks like, 6 or 7 condo building, centered around the pool which is front of the dreamhouse, just before the water.

waterbaby on December 28, 2007 at 12:00 pm
  26. The home is fantasic this year! I was just in the Keys for the 1st time ever last March and would love to have a home there!

Debbie on December 28, 2007 at 2:42 pm
  27. I agree with another interested person – there is no accessibility for a handicapped person. Why is that? Would still love to win and would figure out some way to get in there and shouldn’t need to come out very often!

Joyce on December 28, 2007 at 7:25 pm
  28. I’m so disappointed. All the homes in the past have had a nice flow to them and been decorated beautifully. This home is too “choppy” and there are way too many starfish! It’s like decorating a home in Illinois with pictures of maple trees and cornfields.

Jane on December 28, 2007 at 7:59 pm
  29. Oh I want this so bad. My grandpa built a resort in Islamorada from his bare hands and, even tho he is no longer here, I go and see it as often as I can.

Gust on December 28, 2007 at 8:40 pm
  30. I will enjoy this home when I win it.I love Islamorada. My family used to have a timeshare there but lost it do to poor management.

Paul Norton on December 28, 2007 at 9:46 pm
  31. This home is our dream. We were in the Keys last year looking for a home but decided to wait because of the prices. This house is what we’re looking for at the right price. Good luck to all, but I hope WE get it!
Moving from Way Northern Californai real soon.

Alex on December 28, 2007 at 11:34 pm
  32. I love the house and if I don’t win, I will be friends with those who do. Look for me to sail past, love the sunsets and ocean diving, I’d submit some pictures but they are all of fish, who are out of school now for winter break just like me!!!

Lynne on December 29, 2007 at 6:35 am
  33. This HGTV Dream Home is totally opposite of what
I thought it was going to become. It is more like
a typical beach rental than a home. The rooms are
really chopped up and it doesn’t flow well like
    the other dream homes.

CIndi on December 29, 2007 at 7:10 am
  34. No doubt this is more of a dream area, as this is by far the most drab dream home yet. And how would being surrounded by an eventual condo community even be a dream? A dream home comes with a view. Is another house across from yours the dream view you’d all like? HGTV usually does an excellent job with the dream homes, but even the last one had houses on either side of it in another “development”. More insight needs to be taken as to “location”, and this time, floor plan.ICK!

Terry Alan Craven on December 29, 2007 at 8:45 am
  35. WOW – we love the house and this is what we’ve been waiting for. This is the first home that we’ve really, really want to win through HGTV. It’s been our goal to move to Florida (from Indiana) once our children were grown (we have 1 graduating this year). My husband & I love the ocean and surf. We are suba divers and this is a great location for diving. There are realities that everyone has to think about before winning/relocating. Do you have the money available for the taxes and fees? Can you relocate with your current job or will you be able to find appropriate employment to afford the upkeep of a $2 million dollar home? We have thought about it and are ready for the move!!
HERE WE COME ISLAMORADA, FL 33036!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re all invited to our new home for the holidays next year…….. :-)

  36. Sorry everybody, but this house is already OURS!!! Don’t worry, you can drive by and look at it any time you like. We got married in Key West and we love the Keys and this house was built for us…

    The Graham's on December 29, 2007 at 10:10 am
  37. The house looks beautiful and HGTV if terrific for giving away such a beautiful home each year. However, winning it could produce a crisis for the average person who could not afford the property taxes as well as a tremendous income tax hit. Does anyne know why no money is being given this year to help offset the taxes?

Don on December 29, 2007 at 10:40 am
  38. I love this house! It is designed and decorated just as it should be for a Keys house. It’s got a fun, funky layout (perfect for viewing the water, and is casual enough that you don’t have to worry about all the sand, salt, water, etc that might ruin more elegant furnishings. Of course, with an active 2 year old and 2 doggies, I always think of clean-up and durability first!!
Happy New Year everyone! I’ll try my best to win!

    Sharon K on December 29, 2007 at 10:56 am
  39. I have entered every year, and looks like each year the houses get better and better. This house is beautiful. I wonder how much the taxes would be on a house this nice in Florida? Anyone have any insight on that? While mentioning the downside, has there ever been a winner who was not caucasian? I am entering either way this house is beautiful, but I am curious to know about the taxes and previous winners.

Denyse on December 29, 2007 at 12:21 pm
  40. How much taxes would you owe if you won? I saw an article about the 2005 winner in Texas who owed $630,000 after he won. I don’t see what else you could do but sell the place. Also, the article stated that you win the house not the property. The property is a lease owned by ???. Maybe after three years they have ironed all of these “small” details out.

    sean c. on December 29, 2007 at 3:07 pm
  41. I’m a little disappointed. I have always looked forward to this every year. These homes are outrageously expensive to afford even though they are given away. The average American can’t afford that much in taxes and association fees. Seems like only the extremely wealthy need apply. It would be wonderful to see HGTV build a lovely home and give it away to an average American family freeing them up from a mortgage payment while still allowing them the opportunity to spend their money on something other than exorbitant fees.

kellie on December 29, 2007 at 6:51 pm
  42. Love the house! It is perfect for my husband and me — we have ventured to Islamorada each year for the past 7 years. We love the area and always said we would retire in the keys and this is our home and our year.

Patricia on December 29, 2007 at 8:26 pm
  43. we love it!!! Isn’t it gorgeous? We just wish to be the winners like every year. Ohhh my!! God bless the designers and all the people that work very hard for that dream come true…Thanks for give us the opportunity to share are thougth.

Sarai Adair on December 29, 2007 at 9:17 pm
  44. Is there any other people with us on this. The outside of the house and where it is located is beyond amazing. The inside, to say the least isnt amazing. It lacks all the other dream houses have done for me in the past, excite me. The colors are boring, and the kitchen is bigger than my 1st apartment’s kitchen. The master bedroom being on the 2nd floor and the kids room on the 2nd floor feels like trouble to me. Maybe it is HDTV’s plan to make the interior blah, to get you out and expierence the beauty beyond, however if its bad outside, I don’t want to be trapped in this house ready to get out.

Rich & Todd on December 29, 2007 at 9:47 pm
  45. What a disappointing house this year! There are only 3 bedrooms, one on each floor??? I have a baby, I cant climb down 3 flights of stairs to check on her. This is more a house for a small family or a summer home. I also found it very small. I did not like the kitchen at all, and I agree that the fridge in the closet is a little out of place. I also would have preferred that one of those little nooks be turned into an office. Overall I would not buy this house if I had the means to do so; my family and I would not be able to live comfortably.

Tonya on December 29, 2007 at 11:27 pm
  46. Is there a cash prize? There was one last year, and that would sure help with taxes!

Nancy on December 29, 2007 at 11:48 pm
  47. I LOVE the beach…the dream home, not so much. It is definitely small in there. My dream home is the Tyler, TX dream home. If I won the lottery today I’d go right down there and try to take it off of their hands.

Alisha on December 30, 2007 at 3:02 am
  48. Wow,what a great home!It is perfect for almost anybody, it is set right across from the ocean can you say “great?!?” My family has never been to Flordia so if we won that would be a great experience! Thanks for making this possible hgtv!!!

  49. Man my Birthday is March the same time the house will be given away what a present. I am in Florida already 44 years from Wisconsin and I love Florida, The Keys are great remember President Truman thought so to.

  50. this is our dream to move to Florida I have taken my girl friend soon to be wife there 3 times now twice right here she seems to like this area and has family here just north about an hour there Right before our last trip there she finally found out from her Dr. that she has R/A so she was very down going on this trip and soon as we got to the beach I proposed to her so what would be great than to give her a wedding on the beach and a home of her dreams.
