Clue #1: Where No HGTV Dream Home Has Gone Before
The entry period for the 2008 home is over. Be sure to watch HGTV on Sunday, March 16 at 9pm ET/6pm PT, when we surprise the winner of the home in the Florida Keys on live television!
And now, here we go on the search for the next HGTV Dream Home, the one we’ll be giving away in 2009. I’ll go ahead and take a bunch of states out of contention by saying the next house will be located in a state that has never played host to an HGTV Dream Home before. If you need a refresher on HGTV Dream Home history, check out the "Dream Homes Past" section on Dream Home Central. Also, in the coming weeks we’ll be identifying clues with a special icon. Look for this image
on photos and links we’ll be using as clues to the location of HGTV Dream Home 2009. Look for it now on Dream Home Central near "Dream Homes Past."
And even though the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway has ended, there are more sweepstakes over at sister site DIY Network. Enter the DIY Great Garage Giveaway now for a chance to win $50,000 in cash to build or remodel your garage; they’ll even throw in a 2008 GMC Sierra Denali pickup to park inside. You can enter that DIY sweepstakes once a day until March 17.
And if you would like to tell us how to build a home before giving it away (and judging by all the comments on the HGTV Dream Home in Islamorada, many of you would like nothing better), then be sure to check out the DIY Blog Cabin. Right now you can vote on the type of flooring, windows, exterior color and even the master bathroom design. They’re building the cabin now on beautiful Watts Bar Lake here in east Tennessee. And starting Aug. 1, you’ll be able to enter for a chance to win the home.
Thanks again to everyone who entered this year’s HGTV Dream Home Giveaway, and good luck! Come back this Friday for another clue to the location of HGTV Dream Home 2009.
MORE ABOUT HGTV DREAM HOME

north or south carolina
The next Dream Home should be located in The Black Hills of South Dakota. It’s absolutely beautiful there!
My guess is Maine
What about Arizona? How about up in the mountains close to Payson area. Beautiful country..my kids live there. Would be nice to win something there.
2009 Dream Home to be in St. Louis Missouri is my guess…. Guess we’ll find out soon!
You people stop begging for them to pick you! This is a RANDOM drawing! Geesh! Everyone wants to win just as much as anybody else! They don’t choose a winner based on there sob stories of ill relatives and such. Try Extreme Home Makeovers if your looking to win based on a sad story or tragedy that has hit your family or someone you know that has been devastated by unfortunate circumstances.
Good Luck to all whom have entered the sweepstakes. I would love to win too, but whomever wins I will be happy for them.

Atlantic City, N.J.
I believe the next Dream Home will be built somewhere near Santa Cruz, California.

What I’m really curious about is…if they are going to pick the winner of the 2008 Dream Home based on whoever calls and gets the answer right…what was the point of registering every single day for months?!

I live in houston and but I don’t have home almost one half year. cause I am evecite vacate in 2/5/2007, never find a home please forgive me help try to get a new home. god bless you and Thank you.
It has to be in Las Vegas, Navada.
If a family or person does not have $800,000.00 what chance do they have of paying the taxes? I guess what I am saying is that the winner already must have the money to build a beautiful house like you build in order to keep it if they win. It is a shame.
People get with the program the very first clue eliminated the states with a DH already this includes TEXAS, OREGON, also CO, GA, FL, MD, ME, NC, and SC
Also another clue is WEST of the MISSISSIPPI so it’s NOT on the East Coast if your going to guess then keep up with the clues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello HGTV,
I have always entered them homes that you have on your shows, I never win but it sure is fun doing the drawings and hoping that someday I will, however now getting to the the next location, I think it will be Vegas baby!!!!! all lights and no sleep. or the City of angels New York!!! they too have many lights….Both places awesome to live. I never have but looks great.
Don’t forget about me and my family, we are still saying our prayers for our dream to come true.
Becky West and Family
I think Vegas baby! Viva Las Vegas!
Could it be Baytown, TX…city of lights, probably not quite fitting. Chicago then perhaps.
Brown Country of Nashville, Indiana or Biloxi, Mississippi. Brown Country is so beautiful place to live as really very country. Biloxi, Mississippi is always be my heart to Hurricane surviors and my family/relatives and friends.
The Dream House is beautiful. I think the next dream house will be in Las Vegas!
Did everyone see the lady that won the house? Good GOD! What is WRONG with her? I think when someone gives you a +$2million dollar house you can have a little more expression than she had! She looked as if she was upset they were in their house! AND the husband was the same way! I don’t care if you are in shock or timid, if you just had a windfall given to you, make it worth the show’s while and at LEAST be happy! I say take it back and give it to a thankful viewer! Sorry lady in Iowa, you DON’T deserve the house!
This test for the 2009 dream house. Our Home is 43 years. We had to retire due to health matters. I enjoy entering you give away. knowing it is impossible to really win something like this home. It give all retireees something to look forward to. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Linda C. Mathews
I agree with Frank, what was up with the woman who won the dream house last night. And why did the host just walk in the door of her house like it was staged? That was SO LAIME!
I have seen people win a washer and dryer with more enthusiasm.
And her friends didn’t even let out a big cheer? Ok HGTV how staged was that and how many days ahead of time did that family know for you to just walk in some their house and no one was surprised? I won’t be watching anymore.
You guys are all CRAZY! You know the person who wins has to come up with the taxes for these places! In many states this number is phenomenal and you’ll have to sell the house in order to pay it!
The site very professional! Keep up the good work! Oh yes, one extra comment – maybe you could add more pictures too! So, good luck to your team!
