Greetings From HGTV Super Fan Gail

Good morning HGTV Dream Home Bloggers!

DH09_Gail-Sonoma.jpg

I am so excited to introduce myself to you and get your questions answered! First, a bit about myself. I am a mother of two living in San Francisco. My husband and I were married in Sonoma and often talk about moving there.

I not only love HGTV, but have been a fan of the HGTV Dream Home for years. My personal favorite was Winter Park, Colo., though I absolutely loved last year’s house in the Florida Keys as well. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the posting looking for an HGTV Dream Home Super Fan for the Sonoma Home. (I think I actually said to my husband, “Why didn’t they just call me directly?”) When I got the call that I had been chosen, you probably all heard me screaming.

I can only hope that my passion for design and the HGTV Dream Home connects with you. I thank you all for the well wishes and promise to investigate everything that you want to know. We are all Super Fans in my book, and I am honored to represent us all on this journey.

For now, please post more questions. I am already busy tracking down answers to a bunch of the questions you’ve asked. This job is an absolute dream, and the house is just phenomenal!

Your Super Fan,
Gail

  1. Just watched Gail’s first video of the house. I have to say, even without furniture, it looks fantastic! I can’t wait to see the tour. It is sooo hard to wait. Thank you HGTV for doing this every year. I have enjoyed each one over the years.

  3. Hello Gail, I was so excited to read about where the next dream home was being built I was so excited. My experience with HGTV is mainly online and through your website. With it being on extended Cable my husband and I don’t get that channel. I love seing everything from the dream homes to just remodeling jobs they are awesome. Anyway I grew up in California but in southern california and loved it there. When I went to College I came out to Kansas. I met my husband in College and we have been here ever since. I would love to move back to California, but he feels southern is very crowded, and I tell him that northern california is not as bad and very beautiful. As a graduate in Horticulture he loves plants, plant life and loves to have beautiful sceneary. I told him I was excited to try and enter to win the next dream home and that it would be perfect. The style is definately us. We have been wanting a bigger house to start a family and the house here is us, we both dream of having a house with a big porch that goes around most of the house, and from what the plan shows this is definately a house I can only dream of.

  5. Nice to meet you- I’ve been a fan of HGTV for years- My husband said it ought to be against the law for that stuff to be on t.v.-after he retired, I said we can do that-so I have kept him pretty busy. Can’t wait to see the new dream home.

  6. Hi Gail,

I had the pleasure of visiting relatives in Sonoma just a couple of weeks ago and I actually took my picture outside of the HGTV Dream House-and pictures from different views! I think you were even filming in the front yard, but no one asked me to leave as I walked up and down the sidewalk in front of that beautiful house dreaming about winning it!! Sure hope I do so that I can live near my relatives and live in such a gorgeous part of the country!!

  8. Dear Super Fan Gail,

I just watched your first video. Wow, I’m more excited than ever about the possibly of winning the DH. As you pointed out the kitchen is absolutely
fabulous and I also loved the islands looking like a piece of furniture. I loved the 3 shower heads in the Master bath.
You do should a wonderful job, can’t wait to see you in your next video.
If I visit Somona can I tour the DH?

  9. Hi Katydid…was your question about a covered walkway from the garage to the house? (the answer is NO), or a covered area outside? (again,NO). However the front and back porches offer plenty of space for some chairs and tables.

  10. Hi Gail, How are you doing? I hope your enjoying this great opportunity. The joke around my house is, if HGTV isnt on moms not home. I love the many things i learn and have put many to use. Family and friends let me design bedrooms and such for them. Its so much fun. I have loved all the wonderful home they have given away. My favorite was Texas. My question is this, do you think the day will come when HGTV will build a average size home for simple country folks like me. Dont get me wrong we all dream of having that big beautiful dream house. On the other hand I love being a simple country girl with simple country taste.Well, good luck to whoever wins. God bless you all! Emme

  11. Hello Gail. It is very nice to meet you. Congratulations on being chosen for this position on the new ’09 Dream Home. I have only followed the Dream Home for a few years, but every home is beautiful and I can see me and Hubby very happy in anyone of them. Maybe this ’09 Dream Home will be our year.

  12. Hi Gail – OMG – Just found out that my company’s Northern CA Regional Meeting is going to be in Napa in Jan. (it is usually in SF or Sac). Of course, I will sneak over to Sonoma to view the house. I realize you’ve been asked this about 10X already, but do let us know if a formal tour of the house is planned/scheduled. Will drive over to gawk, and stand outside regardless. Looking forward to hearing more from you, Gail! Thank you for representing all of us DH/HGTV fans.

  13. can the winner trade out some of the amenities or is it “as is”? not that i’d complain about anything if i won, but the lighting didn’t flow with the architecture. and, like a previous visitor, a hot tub suits Sonoma. In answer to “New Yorker” , this is Sonoma … your patio furniture is safe … and year ’round to boot! This house AND location is a winner. The town of Sonoma is historically gorgeous, tremendously friendly, absolutely clean and incredibly fun!

  16. Hi Gail, congratulations being DH09 Super Fan!! I can imagine how excited you are. I was raised in Santa Rosa but had to leave back in the 60′s due to lack of work at that time. Can you believe how it’s grown?. I will be following closely this year. I would so love to win this DH as I have Grandchildren in the area and haven’t seen them in years. I Love farm houses. I remember our kitchen was the biggest room in the house and this kitchen looks great too. Good Luck to the winner who ever it may be. I hope it’s me though….hee, hee

  21. Gail, A truely beautiful house, can’t wait to see the rest. How can we find out what the taxes are on the home? That could be in important factor in deciding if we should enter or not.
