Good afternoon, bloggers!
Happy New Year! I know how excited you all were before the HGTV Dream Home special aired, and I can only imagine how super-psyched you all must be now to enter the HGTV Dream Home 2009 Giveaway!
I told you that this house would knock your socks off. MicheleC inquired about that fantastic zinc table in the master bedroom. It is a one-of-a-kind piece; Linda found it at an antiques store in Sonoma. Marie, the willowy purple flowers are actually potato vines (they tie in beautifully with the window and patio color). There have also been many questions about the right mail-in address for the giveaway, so here it is. Mail your entries to:
HGTV Dream Home Giveaway
PO Box 53305
Knoxville, TN 37950
Make sure your entries are placed in an envelope.
I hope you all enjoyed a great holiday. My family made it through double ear infections and the flu and still managed to appreciate each other and the downtime the holidays bring.
Happy 2009 to you all!
Your Super Fan,
Gail

Is there a washer and dryer in the laundry room? I didn’t see any. Thank you
My only question is why did Miles use such a boys theme for the kids room? There are so many other themes and colors that would of been less gender focused. Also, if your going to put two beds for two kids you should think about how both of them would need their own study area, and not pick one large desk. Plus, in the bathroom a double sink area would be better for those busy mornings. Thats my two cents. The rest of the house is amazing and a true dream come true.
I have entered sweepstakes and for further entries it says to just enter email address.
Doesn’t work so I have to renter all info.
Help?!
I would like to know how the fence around the back yard was installed and what materials were used. I like the minimalist qualities of the fence.
I live in California and wondered if it is possible to tour the Dream Home in person? I love what I have seen on tv and the internet and would really enjoy seeing it up close and personal. My family and I would like to plan a trip to Sonoma to check it out, but wanted to make sure it was possible.
Gail,
The 2009 HGTV green home is going to be amazing (I’ve already seen sketches of the layout)! It’s great to see green home design/green home plans receive such prominent attention in the media.
Also, thanks for the entry information…I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
-Tim
What a gorgeous home. I watched the video coverage on HGTV yesterday and enjoyed the tour. I can hardly wait to move in. My wife and I love Sonoma and have dreamed of living there someday. I do have question, is there a security system available in the house? Just curious. Tom
You have outdone yourselves, again! This is truly a Dream Home! Thanks for all of the effort and time that goes into this contest each year.
Hey i got a question for you and its about being able to affording the house. I know and you know there are contest taxes which are pretty high and on a 2 Million dollar house it would be verry expencive to pay off i mean it would be worth every cent to live in sonama but for some its not possible and im just wondering does hgtv have a way to help the winner pay off the tax and get settled into the home and help them become finiancialy stable for the house. Because this house is really famonimanol and i would dread to see the winner have to sell the house or give it up in a fore closure or something like that.
Dear Gail:
Thank you for letting me know the name of the willowy purple flowers…I would never guess that there were called potato vines!! And, you are so right…they do tie in beautifully with the window and patio color! Everything about this house has been coordinated to excellence!! I have never been so excited about anything in my life (okay, maybe the birth of my twins), as I am about this home. I hope that my DNA left at the front door lends itself to the right karma so that I actually win it. If not, I will be happy for the lucky person that does!! Sonoma is a special place with special people (including my family)!!!
Anyway, thanks again. I will be at the nursery tomorrow asking about the potatoe vines!! I love HGTV & I appreciate what you are doing to further the communications between all of the avid bloggers on this site!!
Have a GREAT day!!
hey everybody, im kinda let down with some of the design in the inside this year, but the house is beautiful along with the backyard, im not entering to win this one though, good luck to you all (:
Does anyone know if it is okay to enter on line, and then also enter through the mail. Or can you just choose one form of entry? The rules do not specify they just say enter on line or by mail. Any info would be greatly apprechited. thanks, Annie
Dear Super Fan! Thank you so much for ALL your fascinating information! I for one really appreciate all your efforts to provide every last bit of information you can. I have a question for you: what “parcel number” in Armstrong Estates, is the 2009 HGTV Dream Home?? (PS: hope this hasn’t already been asked and I missed your answer…..) THANKS!!!
Hi Gail,
I know this sounds stupid but I’ve entered and I’m not sure if you HAVE to mail in the entries or not.
Thanx
Anna Banana
how do you convert the online entries with the write in entries?
Hi Gail,
really appreciate all of your information about the DH. Have a question: does the house have a security system. I’m sure it does, but just wanted to make sure. Also, (I don’t know if you can answer this question or not, but can’t seem to find the answer anywhere else) do you know if the Dream Home 2008 winner or the 2008 Green Home winner, are actually living in their homes. I hope they are, as both homes are just beautiful. Anyway, have a great day and look forward to more info from you.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOve this house. I want to win this house. The colors in the interior rooms are so beautiful and pose a background of serenity for the furnishings of the entire home. I know about potatoe vines. I have grown them in hanging pots with other small flowers that compliment the beautiful light green color of the cascading leaves. I wish I had this house to set up my painting studio. The light would be perfect in any of the rooms. I am visionizing myself in this home in every nook and corner, every day I take the visual digital tour It really is candy for the eyes and just think, we all have a chance to make it ours, and in spite of the taxes, the upkeep and the utility bills, I want to make this home mine. I would move there in a heartbeat. Syl
I messed up last year, i kept entering and then my husband ooops only if we read the rules a little closer, the comment from annie about mailing and intering in line, can you do both…I will enter daily what a great home…..my dream home….come on annie lets do both….up the chances if we can we wait for answer patsy
Happy New Year! Not entering, but this home is to die for, I love it.
Does anyone know if you have to enter once a day everyday online in order to qualify?
Can you skip a day and still be eligible to win?
How do you afford the taxes on your winnings….Sell the house? Are `they defferred over the years?
I think this house is awesome and I would love to win, It would be perfect for me, I have had 1.5 years of turmoil, from being diagnosed with MS, to now in the middle of a divorce from a man who refused to put me in a healthy home. I have dreamed and hoped of having a new home that would be more condusive to my health and wellbeing. I sure hope God smiles on me and lets me win. I think you all do a great job with your projects and I love watching HGTV. It is inspiring to me, and keeps me dreaming that all things are possible.
Hey Super Fan, I love the rug in the guest bedroom but am disappointed there is no information on how to buy the product. I have searched for hours but no luck. Anyone have any thoughts as I am not seeing a way to contact HGTV about products not listed?
Thanks–
These are great questions, where do I go to read the answers? We love this home, it is beautiful…we have no money though and we worry about the property taxes for each year, and the taxes for being a winner? Could you give us an estimated idea what we would be getting into if for some reason we won? Thanks a lot! I have been entering through email each day since the 3rd of January, just in case.
I was very disappointed with Dream House 2009, there’s really nothing specail about this year’s house. I’ve seen better decor in a Pottery Barn catalog. There were only two rooms I liked, the kitchen and sitting room. I’ve entered the sweepstakes but would have to make some major changes starting with Kim Myles room if I won.
Hello. Are you an official rep for HGTV ? or are you stating a personal interpretation of the rules?
The rules say : “hand printing your name, complete address, phone number (area code included) and date of birth either on a postcard or on a separate piece of paper no larger than 8½ x 11 inches, and mailing the postcard or paper in an envelope with proper postage affixed to: HGTV Dream Home”
I take that to mean that you can mail a postcard or you can mail in a separate piece of paper IN AN ENVELOPE.
Sending a postcard in an envelope doesnt make much sense.
Can someone clarify , please?
Well, I am at it again-faithfully entering every day. The last 3 years didn’t work, but hey- what’s a dream without the dreaming!
The house being in Sonoma is very special. I was born and raised only a couple hrs. drive from there and all of our beach trips centered around the Sonoma, Napa, Bodega Bay, Petaluma region.
Now that we’ve moved to the southernmost part of Arizona, I haven’t even seen A SINGLE beach in what seems like an eternity. All of my daydreams are filled with visions of the ocean & more importantly, our family being together in the sunshin (and merciless wind!). One time at Bodega my son and I dug a sand pit and huddled down in it. We wanted to go to the beach so bad we were stubborn and wouldn’t leave when the gail force winds started blasting sand in our eyes!
I still have my collections of shells, beach glass and tiny ,pebbles. In fact, one of my favorite hobbies is to make stained glass mosaic wind chimes, with seashells and other baubles dangling from beneath. We are ocean obsessed- we? oh yeah, me.
Anyway- good luck everyone, this place is AWESOME!
This house is invading our thoughts! We can’t stop imagining ourselves living in it, it is really a true dream home. We especially love the front porch and the backyard patio, what amazing places to host friends and family. Well, like many, we are entering daily and still a little unsure of the rules, although we have read them a thousand times. If we enter online, can we enter with only one email address, or as many as we have (ie. home and work)? Also, can we enter both online and through the mail simultaneously? I know these rule questions are annoying, but we don’t want to invalidate our chances! Thanks for your help…it’s off to the virtual tour for one more look…we just can’t help ourselves.
I find it interesting that last year the “Surprised Winner” was already in position with friends and family. This was definately a “Big Surprise” for all who were watching your show and listening for their front door bell to ring. Since the children’s room is decorated in a boy theme this year and there are three bikes in the garage, one for a boy. Are we in for another “Big Surprise?”
I always enjoy your comments,Gail…but a word to the wise…potatoe vines(when planted
in the ground) are very invasive. We had to
totally rip up an outdoor deck because the potatoe vines retained so much moisture, that the deck never had a chance to dry. Also,
over at Armstrong Park(near the DH09),several
trees had to be removed due to a neighbor’s
potatoe vines smothering them. Lots of looky-
loos at the DH09 lately…I guess the special
made alot of people curious.Happy dreaming!
Ingrid from Sonoma
What do I have to do to reenter the contest just by reentering my e-mail. every time I try that I get the OOPS message “missing everything”. I have accept cookies from HGTV turned on and HGTV cookies, but every time I have to renter all information.
how can i get my posts to POST? I enter all the info, I click post comment… and low and behold, no post. what gives?
Why doesn’t you name and info come on the enter screen? This year when i entered the dream house sweepstakes, I would just type in my e-mail address and the rest would be filled in. Why isn’t that happening now?
OOPPS! that was suppose to say LAST year
‘Rather underwhelmed by the house this year in a neighborhood still sporting telephone polls. Upstairs, are the children to burst through the guests’ or the parents’ bedroom to use the bathroom? Sad, I guess the Recession hit us all including HGTV’s Dream Home.
Yikes! POLES I mean!
Dear Gail,
From my understanding each entry has to be placed in its own stamped and post marked envelope and each entry has to be hand written. With my name and address and birthdate.
but what about when i mail it to HGTV. Like the TO and REturn address. can those be labels printed on a computer?
in the rules it says ” Limit one (1) entry per stamped outer envelope. Mechanically reproduced or hand-stamped entries or mailing labels or entries generated by script, macro or other automated means and entries by any means which subvert the entry process will not be accepted”
If anyone knows could you help me out? i dont want to be sending entrys in and they are no valid.
Thank you so much and good luck to everyone who is entering.
Kelly
Beverly, I also have to keep entering all the info each day on the entry form, but my sister doesn’t. Conversely, The DH09 web site is fabulous and I am enjoying viewing it each day.
barbara
why are there 2 different po boxes for the contest? the website has one and the commercials slow another.
What if HGTV did a contest …50 homes Giveaway (one in each state) where you could only enter to win the dream home from the state you currently reside in? I’m sure they could build homes at a smaller scale / cost for 50 people to win. A house doesn’t have to be so extravagant to be a dream home….just having a home is already a dream.
I LOVE this house and all the rooms in it! My 2 kids and my husband love it too as we have taken the virtual tour as well as the tour on HGTV. After 16 cold years in Maine we would love this relocation so much! I also am a wine lover and take every opportunity when traveling to visit local wineries, although I have never been to Sonoma or Napa Valley’s. The serenity of the colors chosen and the calming themes would do this cancer survivor perfectly.
I also would like the answer to one of the questions here on the Blog, can we enter both mail and e-mail? Or is one better than the other to increase chances of winning? I have been entering my e-mail only and would love to know if this is the right way to go. Good luck everyone!!!!!!!
Lisa
I’m trying to figure out where the lanterns are from in the foyer. Building a house and would love to incorporate those! They aren’t listed in the marketplace. Help?
I would also like to know if you can enter by mail and e-mail, or just by one or the other not both? Also is one better than the other? I love this house, it’s beautiful. Me and my family would love it! Good luck to everyone as well!
Nora
i would like to see a dream home completed in beautiful wisconsin…….on the lake shore, and preferrably, a log home
Hey Ingrid & Bobo! Thank you for the heads up on the Potatoe Vines, however, I will be restricting them to a pot on my deck. We live in a condo, so no worry about them taking over, unless of course, they decide to jump out of the pot & seed themselves below!! I don’t think that would be so bad though, they would probably look good intertwined with the “Wild Lupin” that so gracefully fills the hill above the ocean!! In fact, maybe planting the Potatoe Vines on the hill is a great idea…it could help with the ever present eroding issues!!
Question Gail: I could have sworn there was a half bath downstairs..isn’t there one somewhere on the first floor??
We’d Gladly live there! I wonder how large the lot is. I have a horse and would want to bring him with. We need to goet outta MN- BRRRR.
Marie ~ After I read your blog I decided to check out the floorplan for DH09 and there is a half bath located on the first floor between the stairs and the study. Hope that helps.
Where did they get the outside valance molding? I have looked all over this site for it, along with other molding suppliers.
There is so much detail on this 2009 house,
I know you can’t list it all. I love the area, having lived there before and dream of going back some day.
I read the rules and I did not get out of them that the post card had to be in an envelope. It said “paper.” Is there a way that HGTV can clarify this?
The Sonoma home is so beautiful. Like clockwork, the first thing I do when I log onto my computer is go the the HGTV website. You can’t win if you don’t play!! I do have one question? Are the winners determined by how much money they make or is it strictly just the luck of the draw? I’m still confused by how they draw from all of the electronic emails. Is it better to send something through the mail? Could you please answer these questions.
Everytime I enter I have to fill out the whole form instead of just putting in my e-mail? Last year I just had to click and all my information came up. Can this be fixed? Thank you for your time.
The house is beautiful, but how big is the lot that it is built on? I can’t find that information anywhere.
I loved the New Year’s show and this home, as I did all the past. 2009 may bring new luck to our family who would love to move in to this new home and California. I love all of this home but how great is the cozy living room and the great kitchen (and the bathrooms, bedrooms, and on and on). We have not been lucky yet but maybe this is our year. The plus is this gorgeous home, its beautiful warmth and surroundings and my parents who have just moved out west which we would be closer to again. Good luck to all and continue to dream very big.
Thank you Elizabeth…one of the bloggers complainted about there not being a bathroom on the first floor…I thought that odd & thought I remembered one being down there..thank you for taking the time to clarify!! It wouldn’t make sense to build this beautiful home without a guest bathroom downstairs!! Thanks!!
Love the house – entering every day!!! But the online website entering process is not working as it should, as others are saying. I am also having to completely re-fill all info – very annoying. Please check this out HGTV!!! Thanks for FINALLY going to my home state of gorgeous CA!
Can anyone tell me where to buy the crome auto tape that was used as a border between paint colors in the kids room? This was a great idea…
I tried to fill in the phone number on your website for the Dream Home and the phone number wouldn’t enter. Can only put in three numbers? What is happening?
Gail-
I have a question about something in the rules.
“In the event of a dispute as to the identity of the potential Grand Prize Winner based on an e-mail address, the winning entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at time of entry and such individual will be required to comply with these Official Rules. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.”
It just seems like it shoudn’t be based on email addresses-it should be based on the entrant’s name.
Thank you HGTV for all the hard work that you, and other’s put into the 2009 Dream Home! It’s beautiful! I have one question, does this home have a dishwasher in the kitchen? I didn’t see one.
God Bless,
Colleen
I appreciated all of the information on the resources used in the Dream Home, but I too would like to know the manufacturers of the porch light fixture and the foyer light fixtures also. Any help there? Linda
This house is fantastic!!
Thank you HGTV!!
You have thought of everything!! I am thrilled to read the blogs, since some features were not visible on the program (1/4) or on the Website. For example the first floor Bathroom, flower details.
Thank You!! Thank You!! Thank You!!
Personally, I wouldn’t care if the house came without furniture, washer/dryer, or only had one bathroom and I wouldn’t care if the walls were painted black and telephone poles don’t bother me either – it’s a free house guys – yes, I know you have to pay the taxes but there are NO MORTGAGE PAYMENTS!! Taxes are a lot easier to pay than taxes AND a mortgage payment. I would LOVE to win this house. I am so tired of paying huge rent payments every month and having to move every time they raise the rent. I pay more on rent in a year than I would on the taxes on this house. I would be so grateful if I won this house. It would be such a huge blessing. And living in Sonoma, WOW!! Thank you HGTV for this opportunity!!!
I love the two dishwashers hidden in the kitchen, the first floor powder room next to the study so clients don’t have to walk through the house, the family room television viewable while cooking in the wondrous gourmet kitchen, the under counter washer and dryer upstairs leaving all the counter space free, the lovely kids room with its own bath tub/shower.
Hi,
I am trying to find out the name and where to get the CURTAIN RODS that are in the foyer and other parts of the house. I can’t seem to find a link under Products. Any help is very appreciated! Thanks for the great work, and I LOVE all the paint colors!
Colleen…thre is not one…but TWO dishwashers in that fabulous kitchen. They are in the first island.
I LOVE this house! Visited Sonoma for the first time 2 years ago and fell in love with it!!Youre putting a HGTV house there was brilliant!! Thank You
Hey again……Please, I don’t want anyone thinking that I am not grateful of what HGTV has put into the house, I love what they have done. I just desperately want a home of my own that anything they have done and anything they have put in this house is fine with me, period!!
Did the rules last year require birthdate and separate envelope for postcards?Dont remember this from last year, would hate to think the entries sent in last were all for nothing because i missed these rules! Thanks!
Hello,
I am also curious if you can enter the contest by both mail entires & online entires? OR if it is either or…I am not finding the answer under the contest rules. Anyone know?
Thanks!!
Hi, no offense but what happened this year with the grandness and location of the dream house? Its nice, but not dreamy. What’s with the old houses across the street and the small yard on a corner lot in the middle of this typical neighborhood? I admit it’s a nicer house than most of us have but definitely not the quality “dream” house of past years.
Just did the digital tour again and I can almost smell the newness of this dream home. I hope I win it because I was just told that I would need to vacate my painting space where I now live. At my age this would be devastating. The new house has plenty of light and space for an artist to be very creative. I look forward to moving into and painting in my new dream home with some special family members. Thanks for the opportunity to submit to the sweepstakes. Sylvia Rogers (Barnes)
Oops…I meant “Entries!”
Hope you can answer Gail, thanks again!
I love the new home in Sonoma; I look at it every day and dream! My husband and I have had a run of bad luck in the last couple of years ( he had a major stroke, and has lost sight in his right eye and use of his left arm, so he has had to recieve disability; so now we are renting a town home in Lincoln, NE.) He used to drive truck over the road years ago and said that area in CA is so beautiful. I am still a practicing LPN so most of my our financial support comes from me.All of our children are grown and have children of their own, so we have no strings attached ; it would be so great to start over somewhere else, with a wonderful new home. I dont’t mean to sound pitiful or give a bad luck story, cause I know there are far more less fortunate than us. I watch the HGTV shows all the time. All of the Dream homes have been great and if we don’t have luck this time I’ll just keep reentering and hope again. Anyway the HGTV team has done another really great job and the home is really wonderful. Another question, can you enter online and in the mail? It says to enter the next time, just to reenter your e-mail address, but each time the whole address thing comes up. thanks a lot!
Hello Gail,
As usual HGTV has done it again! What a beautiful home! I noticed what looks to be a garden back behind the dog house? It looks like you could grow some grapes. Or maybe that is the neighbors property or maybe another surprise for the lucky winner.
I’m so in love with this house.. I talk about this contest all day long at work. Today a co-worker mentioned the taxes and maintance to keep a 2MM must be high..you know I did not think of that. What are the arrangements offered by HGTV to the winner – hopefully ME?
I can’t wait to move in…totally, loving it!
Can someone tell me what is the best way to enter the contest for the home, also are online entries treated the same way as being mailed in. Thank you, Mary Pullens
Remember all who think the house should be super grand and on a huge lot and overflowing with bathrooms:
1. CA , esp. Sonoma real estate is very pricey, adding to the cost of the taxes, gift tax.etc.What people dream of might cost 3 or 4 million.
2.You have to pay for all utilities, grounds, care and up keep of the property. The Texas winners couldn’t even change their light bulbs, awesome though that home was.
3. The era of mini mansions and over reaching is over. This is a wonderful home in a great neighborhood in a fantastic town. I would live in a smaller and outdated home to be in Sonoma.
Wake up fellow dreamers and embrace a dream you just might be able to live out! I would be in the yard all the time anyhow, sipping the Ledson, and waving at the neighbors. Even the ones in the little ranch across the street!
3.
The house looks great, just beautiful…lots of details.
Last year I was a little sad that we did not win however, my wife started packing again. My cousin is asking me to move to California for many years.I think Sonoma will be a great place for our children.
Keeping fingers crossed…
and wishing you all, good luck…
Ted
P.S. I will make sure to keep the phone with me at all times…just in case…
Ted
This is a response to someone on January 5, 2009 at 5:33 pm who asked about the taxes. technically if HGTV did pay the trans and rec taxes that would only add to the total value of the package. You would then have to pay federal income taxed on the 2 mil plus the value of the trans and rec taxes. (plus CA state income taxes, if CA has state income taxes. I live in MD and we have property and income taxes. most states I think have one or the other) My advice to the winner who wants to keep the home would be to take out a home equity loan to pay the trans and rec taxes and get on a payment plan with cali and the feds for income taxes. Most of the past winners have sold the home.
Not positive, but I think I may have entered twice today (evening and possibly morning). Does this void me completely from the contest if I did?
What more could a girl want than that beautiful kitchen and dining area to have spectacular dinner parties! And to live in Sonoma…What a cinderella story! Unfortunately it will be only a dream for most of us….but we can keep wishing! I will be entering as often as I can.
Trying to find information on the light fixture hanging in the foyer…I’ve been searching the website and haven’t found any information. Also, can the home be toured? It’s just beautiful!
Hi, I love the canopy in the bedroom and would really appreciate it if you shared the material that is use. I love the soft white material.
It would be great to get instructions on how to reproduce this in my home.
Thanks for giving us something to dream about.
Debbie
I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT MY FAMILY AND I WOULD BE VERY GRACEFUL IF WE WIN THIS HOUSE. WE WOULD LOVE TO MOVE TO SONOMA, CA. WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE TAXES IS HIGH AND WE HAVE TO PAY ALL THE BILLS. WHEN WE MOVE TO SONOMA WE ARE READY TO WORK OUR BUTT OFF TO KEEP THIS HOUSE AND KEEP IT UP, WE ALSO LOVE THE SUV, THAT WILL BE A BLESSING TOO. THE HOUSE IS SOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL ITS PREFECT FOR MY FAMILY, MY SON WILL BE 7 IN FEB. THE KIDS ROOM (HIS ROOM) IS JUST HIS STYLE AND THE EXTRA BED IS GREAT FOR HIS COUSIN. THE MASTER BEDROOM(MY ROOM) IS JUST ME AND MY HUSBAND. THE GUESTROOM IS GREAT FOR MY FAMILY, WHEN THE COME DOWN FROM ILL. (I WILL LOVE TO BE ABLE TO SIT IN THE LIVING ROOM AND WATCH MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WALK IN MY HOUSE) . WE LOOK AT THE HOUSE ON THE INTERNET EVERY DAY AND NIGHT. WE NOTICE EVERY THING THEY CHANGE IN THE PICTURES ON THE INTERNET. WE FEEL THAT THIS IS OUR HOUSE, THIS WILL BE A VERY GOOD BLESSING FOR MY FAMILY. MY SON WILL BE ABLE TO BE RISE UP AROUND GOOD PEOPLE. WE OUR GOING TO CRY OUR HEARTS OUT WHEN WE WIN OR LOSE HOPEFUL ITS WIN . GOD BLESS EVERY ONE AND GOOD LUCK(I HAVE BEEN INTERRING SINCE JAN. 1, 2009
Fabumom07…your comments were right ON
TARGET !!! People who have never been to
Sonoma,CA. have NO idea what a dream location
and lifestyle one has living here. The year-
round weather is perfect, the people are friendly, and Sonoma is off the busy 101
corridor, so it is calm and peaceful. Even
if you can’t afford to keep this home, please
live here for one year, just to experience
the magic! Linda W. made the comment that of
ALL the Dream Homes that she has been involved with, this Sonoma home is the only
one that she would like to move into herself.
I’m lucky to live here, and I know it. I thank
my lucky star everyday. Ingrid from Sonoma
Love the house. It’s beautiful. Sonoma sounds great too. Good choice for dream home!
I, like Tim, am glad to see a green home place so prominently in the media. Superfan, will you be giving us the scoop on the green home as well??? I have lots of questions (though i would be a happy dream home winner!)
Where do you go to find an answer to a post? many are asking where to find things,
as far as out side curtain rods, check Penney’s they just started to carry that product. They also have special order catalogs to order from.
I would not sell a house I won, I think they did a good job with it, and can afford the taxes. Loyal fan of HGTV where many of thier ideas I have put to good use.
Hi Ingrid! Of course, I agree with you (and Fabumom07), too, but you’ve known that from our “lucky stars” posts back in November. I am surprised, too, at some of the comments, particularly about the neighborhood, the homes across the street, and some of the complaints that I am reading about the DH. We are not in Sonoma, but cherish the area as a DREAM location to call home. Take Ingrid’s advice as a local, bloggers…! Sonoma is an outrageously wonderful area.
This home is AMAZING. My husband and I visited last year’s HGTV Dream Home in the Keys and was wondering when the Sonoma home would be available for walking tours. It is sooo exciting to walk through the home and just visualize yourself owning it!!
Thank YOU HGTV for boosting the dreams of your viewers. You’ve done another AMAZING job!!
This house is a dream. Whether I win or not, God is good to us!!! Just so thankful to have this opportunity!
I have been trying to enter the sweepstakes but I cannot get into the state box to enter my state.
so my entry is not accepted. What can I do to enter?
Hi! WOW, was just in Sonoma on the best weather weekend EVER in November! My friend and I had gone on the Grey Line Wine Tour out of S.F. and it was glorious!! To think we were right there eating on the square while YOU were decorating!! What a HOOT! It is so georgeous, and so neighbor friendly, and to actually grow grapes and have such a lucious surrounding yard! I am so amazed at all you were able to do inside AND out! Another Home Run for HGTV!!
What if you can’t remember if you already entered today and you enter again? Are you completely disqualified or your entry for that day doesn’t count? Also, I to have to re-enter my information each time.
Hi Gail,
Thanks for answering my questions. I really appreciate it. You have been a wonderful contributor.
I really hope my family wins this house its so beautiful, it would be really good for us especially since my dad is leaving to Iraq for a year.Wow i’m so exited to see who wins!!! My house is such a dump XD lol P.S I’m only 12.
Last year we had a person who live near DH 08…Islamorada, and she spoke of the area like Ingrid (and a few of us) speaks of this DH. It too was a beautiful home, and she felt very lucky to live there in paradise.
But it was not easy for her to hear all the negative post, and we didn’t hear from her after the DH was won.
Lots of us feel that where we live is the BEST place to be, so please understand if sometimes we seem a little protective of some of the negative comments made here.
You all do have a right to your opinion.
Just need clarification on something. Can spouses enter the contest online if they have different emails even if they live in the same house. For the first couple of days I entered and then my husband entered using his email. I hope this doesn’t void our entries since it is coming from the same address! Any one know the answer?
I know that no one is going to give me $700,000 to pay the taxes on this house so I joined the myunclestan.com network. It seems like the best chance we have to keep the house without taking out another loan and getting further into debt.
Like a previous questioner, where do we get the answers to our questions? My auto fill is not working either. I checked my setting and they are all right but it still isn’t working. Having to fill out the form every time is a real pain.
Good Luck everyone!
Would like to enter the sweepstakes for HGTV
Dream Home – but your website is very frustrating. Just give us the specific rules and instructions.
Some of my opinions about your questions. If you fill in your zip code, they will know the state. Having to fill in all info again, try this. click on the first email address and fill it in (exactly like you did the first time). Then click on the second email box….all should fill in automatically. It is my understanding you can only use one email address per computer. If you enter another email from a second computer, that is OK. The home address doesn’t matter. If I am wrong on this, will someone from HGTV please correct me so can apologize. Thanks.
I absolutely love the Sonoma Dream Home! I agree..It makes no difference if there are telephone poles, nieghbors in small homes, no furniture..or worst. This place is a dream come true. Less than 1 hour from San Franciso. 45 minutes from The Culinary Institute of America. I would transfer and complete my Culinary Degree there in a heartbeat. Winecountry. A sleepy little town. Low to no crime. Friendly people and the most important thing…Nice weather. The summers are so hot in Las Vegas that I swear I once saw the devil walking down the street with his pitchfork! Ahhhhh, heaven must be like Sonoma! Dreams do come true;)
HMMM. There appears to be two of us now. Welcome, other “Bonnie”. Who is the other “Bonnie” from the post above about Entering twice? Blogger buddies – that isn’t a post from me….maybe the new “Bonnie” will be so kind as to change her name slightly to distinguish us.
How did another Bonnie sneak in here? That’s like two DBCoops. Soon we’ll have to play “will the REAL DBCoop please stand up.”
Bring back, oh bring back, bring back the real Bonnie to HG-TVeeee.
Let’s hope it all gets sorted out so that every last blogger or blogger-to-be is happy.
I’m confused enough as it is….
DBCoop – Ha or as they say now, “lol.” I have never heard that song before! (Kidding)….we’ll see if any more blogs from the mystery “Bonnie” appear. I know you understand Coop, but I just want to be me,,,no confusion, please!
Individuality is priceless!
I don’t see any responses to comments previously made. Can you enter more than one email address from the same computer? If no, and I have been, will both emails be disqualified?
Please help! I’m confuse where to send the entry by mail. When you watch HGTV Dream Home you will see another P.O. Box address where to send it and it only requires name, address and phone #. P.O. Box 51622. Another one in the HGTV website under RULES.It is PO Box 53305, Knoxville, TN 37950 that requires name, address, phone, and date of birth.
This home is exquisite!!!!! What a dream home!!!!!
It does seem like Dream House, I wish they had added pool too.
Would love to know how these guys get the bed furnishings from, the masterbedroom sheets , shams etc look gorgeous.
Does anyone know any good website to purchase the sheets etc.
Will someone at HGTV answer these questions or are we just talking to air? Marie, of course we tried to auto fill by entering our e-mail addresses. IT DOESN’T WORK!!
To all of you who are wondering what the tax charge will be…20 to 25% on 2 million will come to: A minimum of, $400,000. In order to keep the house, you will need to take out a mortgage for that amount to pay Uncle Sam. Your monthly payment will be an approximate amount of, from $1800 to $2000 a month for 30 years depending on the interest rate charged by the bank.
Are you discouraged? Wait…
Your property taxes will come to a minimum of, $30,000 per year.
If you were to win this house, but could not afford to keep it…sell it and with the cash, buy a less expensive house. Good luck and GOD Bless.
Auto-fill does work…just type-in your email once, not twice, then press ENTER on your keyboard. Your full application will pop-up on your screen, then press ENTER again and VOILA, you are entered.
YOU’RE WELCOME!
DO POST CARDS NEED TO PLACED IN ENVELOPE FOR THE CONTEST

This place is beautiful. I know that my karma is on the fritz so i have no chance of winning but to those of you who do…what is up with the crazy complaining? Who cares what the rooms look like they decorated one room a little to boysish or the guest room is girlish. After what I’ve grown up in I would be thanking someone just for the oppertunity to live a new life. My children would be blessed with something I could never be able to give them due to family issues. But if I won, your darn right I would put my whole life into making it a wonderful home. Everyone who keeps complaining about this and that remember you’re lucky to have to things. If you have to bring something with you that isn’t quite up to “standards” guess what that’s okay too cuz you will have a breutfil home. A home that you can make something for your family. You can remove everything inside that home and its just a place…what makes it a home is who is living in it and the reson youre there. My reason as greedy as it may be is for my son and me and my husband. I have nothing to say about the decore of the home or choices from rooms. A house is a house is a house and its free. People need to be thankful..
I love the HGTV dreamhome, it appears to be everything I could possibly have imagined and more. I have never been to CA, and have never enterd a sweepstakes like this before. I am just graduating my BSN in Nursing and with my significant other starting his dentistry I can’t think of a more exciting place to be. We love to make wine and we love to travel. My family would love the home. I wouldn’t change a thing.
I have been trying to enter the dram home sweepstakes but your sponsor list covers the entry form, why?
Hi.I moved to northan Ca.( 65 miles to the Oregon border) from the Bay Area twenty years ago. As a child my brothers and I would visit my father at his cabin in Healdsberg Ca. near Sonoma. We would spend many days at the Russian River having fun in the sun. I have always liked that part of Ca. Such a quint town and it’s not to far from the coast, ( Point Reyes CA.) Its also where I want to continue my education at the university of Sonoma. In the past few years my fathers health has become an issue for our family even through his children are spread apart through out Ca. we came together at Thanksgiving in 2007 to share time with him and his wife Elizabeth. Wow what a wake up call for all of us, we didn’t realize his health had decline, so much. It would be a blessing to win this home for our family, so we can have a place to live and be near our father. I read a few comments from people about the home , I was a bit surprize to read the dissaticfation people have over the silliest things in a house. ( even a free home) The house is fabulous and everyone involved did a wonderful job in the homes creation, who ever receives it should feel honored and thankful to have this home. Good luck to everyone in the Dream Home give away.I also want to thank HGTV for the opportunity for a chance to win my dream home.
Can someone tell me the dimensions of the DH09 Master bathroom. I cannot visit, live in the south.
Can anyone tell me how will they chose their winner. Would it be from the ones the that mail in their entry or the ones that do it online. Can anyone tell me how this works.
I enter every single day, but there seems to be a problem with the self-populating fields. That has only worked once when inputting my email; ie,have to input every field every day. You probably have had others tell you the same. Kind of frustrating. Thanks.
Hi Everyone,
Happy New year, and happy DreamHome sweepstakes. I have entered many times before, and who knows, this could be my year. Nevertheless, Blessings to everyone.
Theo
Hey,
i really like this home
i feel sad that me and my mom and dad live in a ATP
with 4 kid with never had room
but if i don’t win
i wish all the people who turn a good luck :]
Is there a crawl space? How big is it? And what is the attic like?
Hello,
I have been entering on line. May I enter both on line and via mail? Or is it one or the other??
Thank You!
P.S. What a Dream Home it is! Beautiful! Sonoma is one of my favorite places. Lived in the Bay Area for 20 years. What a dream it would be to move back home. I would never have to worry about coyotes again…my cats could enjoy the outdoors! Best Wishes to the winner!!
Wow! The house looks fabulous. Me and my husband has done virtual tour of the house numerous times. The kids room looks great. Without any doubt, it will be a dream home for one lucky winner. I am glad that I am participating in this sweepstake entry.
Can I write my mail- in information on an “index card” and place it inside a stamped envelope?
Please consider changing the kids’ room. It really should be gender-neutral!
When I send a mail-in entry, can I write my information on an index card and put it in a stamped envelope? On another note, the kids’ room really should be changed to a gender-neutral theme.
Please change kids’ room to a gender neutral theme. Please
Thank you so much for reminding me to place my entries in an envelope.. as for the last three years I have placed the address and stamp on the other side of index cards, thinking it would work like post cards….thank you again and good luck to all !! I love this Dream Home and the location in Sonoma.. and our son loves the kids’ room… it is so great…every year they always add such a great dog house,, and trust me, my dog would love that house but, he stays inside always by our son’s side… but, I am sure he would play out there often. Good luck to everyone !!!
Hi,
I’ve read your answer on the taxes for the DH and if I’m reading it correctly, you are saying that if we win it, we have to come up with $400,000 before we can move in, is that right?
You also said if we couldn’t afford it, we could sell it and buy a smaller home, right? My question is, we would still have to come up with the taxes, approx. $400,000, before we could take ownership so we would be able to sell it, is this right?
What if we don’t qualify for a mtg. of that amount to pay the taxes, what happens then?
What if we couldn’t pay mtg. payments close to $2000 a month?
I’m trying to find out if I can afford to win this beautiful home or not.
Thanks
What A Wonderful House! I have entered before to win – especially the one that is on the “Eastern Shore of Maryland”. Not quite understanding if I must enter by email each and “every single day”? Never know, maybe I’ll get lucky!!!!
Everyone that is concerned about the taxes, please go to myunclestan.com.
BEAUTIFUL!!!! My little one was looking at the 09 dream home with me, and has already started picking out the room she wants!!! Can’t wait, the car isn’t bad either!!
The Dream Home would be a dream come true for me, having been widowed since 1984 it would be an opportunityof a lifetime to own a home like this. I love everthing about it.
I have been entring the GIveway since it began
Valerie
